They have been shoving jace in our face since te begining, it's getting really annoying.
Also, you do know that Sorin is yust a marketing ploy to sell Zendikar boosters to Twillight Emo's?

No offense but that card seems....bad. Flavorful, but bad. Like, it's not even halfway decent.
Meh, you're probably right. When I made it people said it was "too powerful," but that was a long time ago. If I had to redo it, which I should:
Gix 3BBB
Legendary Artifact Creature- Golem
Intimidate 3: Tap target permanent. B, Sacrifice a permanent or discard a card: Gain 1 life.
6/6
Maybe
Gix, Scion of Phyrexia3BB
Planeswalker- Gix
+1: Artifact you control are indestructible until end of turn.
-2: Destroy target non-artifact creature.
-7: Destory all non-artifact permanents.
4
Gix wasn't a golem, though. He was a demon. In The Brothers' War he was physically described as looking like Yawgmoth Demon (the original version), probably because the writer wasn't given any indication that he would appear otherwise. Gix definitely needs to come back, but only if Lynn Abbey gets to write the Mirrodin book. And that won't happen because WotC doesn't seem to want to farm their block novels out, only the planeswalker novels.
Also, The Purifying Fire wasn't a good book. That is all.

@Eid: TPF was a good book. Not great, but not as awful as a book that you would actually want to get your money back for. Or burn.
That was the first thing that popped into my head when I cracked one haha not that I feel WotC is cranking out vampires to cash in on the twilight "phenomenon"
Also, The Purifying Fire wasn't a good book. That is all.
Eh, I personally liked it and found it to be a good, enjoyable read. That is all.
Also, I don't think I could ever play the Phyrexia deck. I was never a fan of the designs. They did a really good job making me feel horrified when looking at the cards I guess that means Coalition for me.
Are there going to be any new cards in this thing? Has that been confirmed? There are plenty of old Phyrexian cards they can use but I suppose it would be nice to see something new or re-invented.
I like the MONO BLACK versus 5-COLOR idea- though it looks like that 5-color deck is going to suck pretty bad. I'll take the Phyrexian one.
Also, I don't think I could ever play the Phyrexia deck. I was never a fan of the designs. They did a really good job making me feel horrified when looking at the cards I guess that means Coalition for me.
Then you got the idea- who wouldn't be afraid of a mutant demonic beast of flesh and machine with powerstone energy and a single-minded desire to kill kill kill?
You all miss the most obvious one
Ajani=Urza both are obsessed with their dead brothers and spend all their time trying to get revenge and are emo for half the story.

If you really believe that, you don't know anything about marketing or popular culture.
He's a lot more Matrix than Twilight - look at the coat, the dark industrial backdrop, the martial-arts pose. The background also looks a little like the Undercity in Ravnica, which means if anything he might be a hook for 2005 fanboys.
You also seem to have problems with writing conventions - you might like oldwalkers because they're supposed to be so super-badass and you like imagining you're one of them because they can incinerate planets , but you've never had to write a believable story for them.

No i haven't tried, it's not my job to do so.
No they can't incinerate planets, they all had flaws and aren't as overpowered as TimeSpiral block made them out to be.
No i don't imagine being something like a overpowered being blowing stuff up, if liking good writing means your that something is a dumb point.
(if so it would be sad to be someone that daydreams about being a manic depressed robot isn't it? or a bittered shapeshifter or something with a squidhead stuck under a rock in a city you can't find in any atlas.)
I know a marketing stunt when i see one, being a communication advisor/Graphic Designer helps allot in that point, 4 years worth of the class marketing helps to i suppose.
Matrix can't be put into a card game with goblins and wizards can it now?, cyber punk stuff worked with Phyrexia.
Twillight works again because a great deal of people that like that kind of series likes Magic anyway and a vampire walker deffinitly adds to booster sales.
And don't say it's coincidence, Wizards has a complete Marketing and Communications department that get payd well enough not to be so.
Also why this personal attack on me?, or did you have a lack of family and friends for christmass and felt the need to take it down on me?.

I believe he was targeting you specifically because, like most who use 'Twilight wankery' as a reasoning for Sorin and the new influx of vampires, they fail to really consider WotC's track record wit Vampires, as well as the amount of time these worlds, characters, and in many cases these cards are in development.
Simply put, the liklehood that Sorin was thought up prior to the more recent Twilight idiocy is incredibly high. Additional to this, one can look at Magic (and indeed WotC in general) and see that they are among the few companies who has remained true to their image of vampires over the years. Can you see much difference between Baron Sengir and Sorin Markov? Because i'm seeing badass vampire in both cases.
That said, the fact that Sorin is being used as the poster child for Zendikar is at least partially due to the current 'Vampire' craze, so take what you will.
The issue at hand here seems to be whether Sorin is meant to appeal to frustrated emo teens. In terms of suitability as fodder for that slice of the "alternative" demographic, Sorin ticks many more boxes than the Homelands-grown idol for wannabe villainous dictators.
Beyond that I think most of us agree that the prevalence of massed Vampires as a black archetype at the same time as Twilight-mania is not completely coincidental. On the other hand, it's also not a terrible thing for WotC to explore - even though I'd much rather they'd used Horrors as the Negatron Tribe.
Anyway, here's hoping the Phyrexia deck is awesome and a primer for "Phyrexia eats Mirrodin".
P.S. I would say that the current widespread presence of 1-3 cmc Vampires at (un)common represents a significant departure from the traditional role of Vampires in the game. Don't think we can praise WotC for uber-consistecy here. But again, they have a multiverse to run.

And yet they describe him as an easily bored bon-vivant who wouldnt leave his "good life" if it wasnt because someone/something is threatening to awaken some monsters he doesnt want to mess around.
That sounds like a typical B character of the non-megalomaniac kind. Dont see anything emo/subcultural/goth there.
Is it the coat? cause to tell the truth the first time I saw his coat I thought more in the lines of wild-wild-west than cyberpunk or goth
And about vampires becoming the tribe, well, if zombies were in zendikar B would suck just because they wouldnt have empowered zombies as they empowered vampires.

Yes sir, I take fantasy art and character design commissions, PM me for rates.

To be fair, if your an immortal being (and being a planeswalker on top of being a vampire the man has all kinds of potential 'god complex' issues) who sustains oneself off of the essence of the living, I would think 'dark heart' would be a pretty accurate means to describe oneself... though it rates rather high on the schmaltzy meter.
More, we are at best judging Sorin off of a few chunks of flavor text (has the novel containing him been released yet? Shows how much I follow the literature.) which seem to point more in the direction of hedonism (note that even in his crappy 'dark heart' quote he puts an emphasis on pleasure) than in any kind of inane emo attitude. Indeed, hedonism is the opposite of the emo mindset, taking pleasure in all aspects of life as opposed to despairing in them.
We are, unfortunately, much too used to Twilights vampires of modern day, and a few too many people can still recall some of the more... quirky aspects of Anne Rices vampires. Give him a book, and another expansion worth of quotes and we'll get a better feel for our Sephiroth-esque friend here.
Edit: Back on track, i'm hoping to see all the virus cards myself, Phyrexian Plaguelord is a favorite of mine.
The intersection of Twilight fans and Magic players is pretty low. The Twilight fanbase is almost exclusively young females. The vast majority of Magic players are young males. Magic is made to appeal to its primary consumer base; males aged 13 and up. Twilight is not a strong influence on that demographic.
There is some truth to the fact that vampires are showing up more often in popular culture these days, in part because of the success of the Twilight series. But it's important to realize that correlation does not imply causation. Magic starts pushing vampires at around the same time that Twilight has widespread appeal, but that doesn't necessarily mean the two are related.
The classic example is this: when rates of ice cream consumption increase, the rate of robberies also increases. Does this mean that ice cream causes more crime? No. The two are unrelated, the only reason there is a correlation is because both things go up during the summer, for completely different reasons.
Vampires are being pushed right now because the Creative Dept. wanted to find a more appealing and identifiable race at the forefront for Black to replace zombies, which are quite lacking in many areas in terms of representing their color.
Neither Sorin nor the Zendikar vampires have anything in common with Twilight vampires at any rate besides drinking blood. Sorin is a suave, sophisticated person who goes through life looking to entertain himself, bearing a much greater resemblance to vampires of Anne Rice. Zendikar vampires are hedonistic and wild, sometimes quite savage. Neither of these vampire archetypes matches that presented by Twilight. They need to stop being compared.

It makes my heart flutter a little seeing well articulated and thoughtful posts
on the internet.
However beyond a certain point it can (some would say "should") be taken to indicate a likelihood of either causation or a common cause. Even if Sorin's card art featured glittery fairy dust and a psychologically malfunctioning teenage girl draped all over him, it would be equally possible and true to say "but it could just be coincidence". Even if his name were Twilighty McRipoff, it would still be a logically valid point (until/unless Word of God said otherwise).
Of course it could be coincidence. Gravity could be coincidence. I don't think anyone is claiming to be able to prove a direct cause using pure deductive logic here. Personally, I go for a little from column A and a little from column B. As you say, they were looking for an "appealing and identifiable" characteristic race for black. Of course their decision will have had some reference to popular culture. No one is charging them with a felony here.
And yet they describe him as an easily bored bon-vivant who wouldnt leave his "good life" if it wasnt because someone/something is threatening to awaken some monsters he doesnt want to mess around. [...] Dont see anything emo/subcultural/goth there.

I agreed with all the rest of what you say, but this is dangerously close to sacrilege.
Il Barone was a middle-aged-looking, ruthlessly efficient despot with a dispassionate demeanour. Sorin is a moody, uber-powered loner with a snarky smile and unavoidably-Sephiroth-evoking hair. He mopes around about how very very dark his heart is, occasionally taking a break to allude to "dark" varieties of pain-inflicting hedonism.
The issue at hand here seems to be whether Sorin is meant to appeal to frustrated emo teens. In terms of suitability as fodder for that slice of the "alternative" demographic, Sorin ticks many more boxes than the Homelands-grown idol for wannabe villainous dictators.
