Presumably the other trolls left the plane when the soul traps were destroyed. They definitely had a strong connection to the past, so it makes sense that almost all of them returned to their plane of origin.
even if this is true, the card Asceticism envokes nostalgia because we all loved Troll Ascetic. Hopefully, we do see Thrun. and hopefully Asceticism will grant the Troll Shroud + G: Regenerate in the form of an enchantment. guess we'll have to wait.

IIRC, the Trolls held off the Levelers when Glissa used the hole created by the Green Sun to travel to Mirrodin's Core during Darksteel-Fifth Dawn. The Trolls were slaughtered whole-sale, which is why there was only a single troll printed in Fifth Dawn.

This seems like reasonable speculation. The term "ascetic" definitely now has associations with the Troll, and its abilities, in Magic.

So this Thrun guy is the surviving troll.
A combination of this and the Disappearance is probably the answer.
A combination of this and the Disappearance is probably the answer.
There really isn't any need to factor in the disappearance. Every troll was killed during the attack, except apparently, Thrun who somehow survived. Maybe he was too young to help the rest of them and that's why he's still around.
But legendary will make me a little sad, as it did w/KotN.
Seems to fit with their inability to give the 'creature color' ideal creatures without leaving some particularly good element off the card, or otherwise nerfing it..a la Legendary or something else. I just don't understand. The fact that a straight-up simpleton like Tarmogoyf is the 'obviously best' green creature in the game is inexplicable.
It's the creature color. Give it the best creatures and make them obviously the best. Do this is most sets, actually. You guys are the ones who wanted to make this a game about turning dudes sideways.
What is so particularly insoluable about this mission, R&D? Are you afraid you'll..lol..break the game or something? Look around you. You're doing busted things all over the place for a while now.
What Barinellos said is sorta true, they kept fighting the levelers, and kept having to use energy to regenerate. They can endlessly regenerate over time, but not infinitely so much in one battle. You can kill those lizards that regenerate IRL, right?
Correction: Star Wars taught us that George Lucas is a horrible, horrible person. And that WotC doesn't like doing licensed products for something they/Hasbro doesn't explicitly own.
Oh lord, I hope this would be true.
Even better would be giving him storyline significance.
Even betterer would be making him ascend and become a Mono-G planeswalker.
Not happening, but I can dream
Regardless, I really hope we see him as a legendary creature if nothing else, he does seem too cool to pass up, and with that recent phyrexian flavor text he could be an interesting protagonist.
I just wouldn't want him to die, but I have the feeling if he is important they'll kill him off, just like that immensely lame

Also, why can't trolls be that easy to kill on the internet?
There wouldn't be.
They could've done this differently...so as to NOT have made it legendary. Which this almost certainly will be, yes.

If this last troll is a legend, it should be quite interesting. Considering there hasn't been an actual troll legend yet.
So not likely in this set
Well he'd be legendary so you only get one troll for the entire Scars block.

Thank you! And they never will, thank the lord.
But it would be funny if Valve somehow bought Hasbro, then started screwing with the Tranformers fans until they became paranoid.

The Phyrexian version of the green section of World of Mirrodin now references our new friend, Thrun:
"Deep in the Tangle, there is a troll. He may suspect."
Thoughts? Further proof that a card version is coming?
