So, there are a lot of M11 speculations running around lately, and I surprisingly haven't seen a thread for this. So here's the big question, who would like to see some Legendary Creatures in M11?
I ask this mostly because the legend rule is a part of the game, one that new players need to learn about too, so it's deserving of core set status in my book. Also, it was very cool to have reprints of some popular legends in Tenth Edition, and it helped bring in players new and old. Now, I don't really want them to reprint new legends that will get no story, but just reprinting some old legends would be amazing.
If there were Legendary Creatures in M11, I could see a roster like this for the reprints: Akroma, Angel of Wrath - Probably the most popular angel in Magic, would fill the place of Walletslayer in M11 as well. Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir - A key character in Magic's history, and a fun card. Toshiro Umezawa - Even Kamigawa needs love, and Toshiro was a reluctant hero that played an important part in starting the Umezawa clan. Jaya Ballard, Task Mage - As far as pyromancers go, Jaya is probably the most popular next to Chandra, the only issue I could see here is the two clashing for the spot of most popular pyromancer. Mirri, Cat Warrior - A classic creature, bringing back some love for the Weatherlight crew, she may not be to great by today's standards, but she's still a great and flavorful character. Memnarch - This guy would be amazing with the upcoming Lights block if it really is Mirrodin II, not to mention being flavorful.

Teferi was a very evil card. I'm not sure if I want to face down that guy again. I had about enough of him during TS Standard.
I don't think it would bother me if they reprinted a few good legends, but offhand, I can't think of any good legends that they could reprint which I would want back. Maybe Venser.
Venser, Shaper Savant over Teferi, Teferi was bonkers powerful. Jaya and the rest of those feel pretty out of place. While i would like legends in the main game i think plansewalkers are rather filling that spot up.
I hope not. I prefer that they just focus on a neutral Magic setting w/ some flavorful Planeswalkers.
I agree with this sentiment. I think the MXX core sets should remain somewhat generic, while Legendary permanents should appear within the block settings. Planeswalkers have taken over the role that legends played within Tenth Edition.
I'd like to see some in there, although not with the reasoning that it's something new players need to learn about, as the core set is no longer supposed to be the introductory set but a core of more or less "generic" Magic cards around which the game will rotate. And legends have really become a part of Magic's core flavor, so tossing in a few would be cool with me. I thought they did a pretty good job with the ones included in 10th, so I wouldn't mind seeing them again.
Also, I don't see how it would be any more of an intrusion to include a cycle of five legends as compared to including the cycle of five planeswalkers.

Mr. Jiggles comin' to town and gonna take you on down to the hootenanny, so y'all best be lookin' out for a good, jiggly time.
Sorry but Toshiro Umezawa has bushido and well that kinda awkward for a core set with one bushsido in it but thanks for the shout out there. And would these legends be mythic? That would clog that slot too so i dont think legends would be a good idea
I wouldn't be surprised if Wizards did some new Legends for M11. Personally I would love to see some multi-colored cards get the reprint treatment like Bloodbraid Elf , Lightning Helix and Maelstrom Pulse . Any or all would be awesome.
i vote a resounding no because core sets are just too generic to be shoving legends into. it worked with 10th because of the whole time spiral block and it being the 10th edition and all, but thats pretty limited. they got rid of things like grizzly bears because they were too specific, why would they shove akroma in there?

I would also LOVE to have Lightning Helix back, and maybe Watchwolf and Putrefy/Mortify. But I think there would be riots if WOTC reprinted Bloodbraid Elf.

Yeah, plus it has the block mechanic of Cascade, but all the others could easily see reprint if Wizards decided to put in multi-color cards.

As we know, legends don't have to be mythic. Sure Akroma would be mythic, but Reya Dawnbringer, Rakka Mar and Thada Adel, Acquisitor are only rare. Perhaps two cycles of legends, one rare, one mythic would be enough, maybe too much.
I feel that by reprinting iconic legends, it can attract new and old players, some old players will get nostalgic feelings when they crack open a pack and the rare is Gerrard Capashen and I'm fairly sure a new player would be interested in playing their Legendary Zombie Knight and finding out more about them. Though I do understand the argument that Core Sets should be "generic" and not have the legends, and I also understand that legends might steal the spotlight from the planeswalkers, which is also a concern.

Well, Grizzly Bears was too real-world specific, which is quite different from being specific to a particularly story in the Magic universe.
I still think this argument for keeping legends out of core sets is null and void with the inclusion of planeswalkers, who are far from generic in so many ways. I mean, they even have their own line of novels going around!

Haste is no longer a keyword of white. Actually it was never really in whites pie, and besides white suspend creatures, Akroma is the only white haste card ever.
First strike in green has some precedence but is still pretty rare;
and according to Lord MaRo, first strike isn't done in green any longer either.
But in general, yea Legendary creatures would be cool in M11.
Recent discussions here and elsewhere have made it clear that there seems to be a group of players who consider blue and control synonymous, as if they somehow started playing a game with four identical and "bad" colors that do nothing interesting because they just "turn men sideways" and then true, glorious blue, the only thinking person's color.

I voted maybe. I think making all new legends would definitely be the best way to go. I'm all for that, but old legends returning kind of messes with the direction they're taking core sets.
I would like to have a cycle of Legends running around in the core set, just one for each color, all at the same rarity, all at about the same power level. But only 1 legend per color, and exactly 1 legend. Anything else would feel awkward. I don't think that they would be competing with the planeswalker slots. Remember Rav block where each guild had 2 legendary "leaders". It would seem sort of like that, except one of them isn't a creature, but a planeswalker. That would seem normal to me. The one thing with having Teferi in a core set is, as others have pointed out, he is really good. I personally would love to have him back, but most people probably wouldn't. Also, flash isn't really a core set mechanic, as I have enough trouble explaining to new players why they usually play their instants at the end of my turn rather than their main phase. However, some other blue legend would be fine (although I can't think of any others that are that good right now).
Just because it's evergreen doesn't mean that it's printed frequently. I've been playing throughout Shards and Zen blocks and M10 (and just a little bit more;)) and haven't seen a single instance of the keyword yet in Shards, Zen, and M10 combined (Bogardan Hellkite doesn't count, it's a reprint). If there is a card with flash in standard, please tell me what it is, it might help make my control decks better.
Edit: Never mind actually, there were 5 (bad) cards in Shards block with flash in Gatherer. But there are still none in Zen block. And I'm not counting the reprinted Bogardan Hellkite.
I think maybe the Onslaught CCC3 legends - Arcanis the Omnipotent, Rorix Bladewing, Silvos, Rogue Elemental, Visara the Dreadful and Jareth, Leonine Titan would be nice in a Core Set, they were all well conceived, balanced cards and I think they were relatively underrated. I started playing magic when Onslaught was released and I remember loving these guys (although it took me a while to understand why Arcanis was good :P). I think a set of legends like these in a core set would be great - they teach new players how legends work; but they aren't too complicated; nor are they too weak to be immediately discounted by more experienced players (I know they weren't played too much, but still...). They also each completely embody the nature of their colour on the colour pie and provide a great generic fantasy flavour, which Wizards are going for in M11.
I do hope they include some legendary creatures, because they make such nice creature lords. Though, I think they should be new cards that have the same resonant feel that M10 had.
They should seriously consider adding a couple brand new tribal cards for each color in a core set. I can't believe they added a completely new card type to the game to find its almost exclusive to two expansion sets.
But, that's a different poll for a different time.

Thanks for pointing that out, I totally forgot that he had Bushido. Perhaps maybe Crovax the Cursed/Ascendant Evincar or Commander Greven il-Vec?
