This one caught my eye immediately. Wow, now that's gonna see Standard play.
Actually, I'm not sure about that. I think this might be the card that singlehandedly destroys tokens because people will be afraid to run the deck simply because this card exists.
Partially or completely invalidates key cards and strategies in 3 of the 10 guilds. Will be a house in DGM limited.

I once met a man from Seattle
When posting he never did prattle
He was quite a nice bloke
Always quick with a joke
With Magic Cards, he always did battle.
I like this card as I have a natural dislike of decks that repeatedly spam 1/1 tokens. It slows you down, but a dedicated token deck should still be able to push past it.
No, not really. Kills dorks dead, kills spirits, soldiers and vamps....and of course makes the bigger tokens even worse. Tokens already struggle if they don't draw an anthem. This takes away that bonus if they have an anthem out, and makes it impossible for them to get off the ground if they don't.

It's an absurdly powerful hate card against them.
Just to clarify, I'm speaking of Standard. It's powerful against Lingering Souls and Sorin yes, but I disagree that it does anything like invalidate the deck. They have to be playing Black, and how many sideboard slots are people really going to use on this? I don't think the full four. You've got four anthems in your deck that counter it as well as something like Abrupt Decay.

I mean, so am I. Lingering Souls and Sorin are the strongest cards in token decks in standard. Selesnya Tokens just isn't as strong without splashing B for those cards, even though it has bigger token creatures. And like I said, it's still very good against the GW tokens. The 3/3 for two token just became a bear, the 2/2 Knight is a 1/1.
The point is, Tokens is a strong deck, but it was easily hated out even before GTC. This makes it even easier to hate out, and token hate is being incredibly pushed (compare this to Curse of Death's Hold, for example), especially when you consider not only this but cards like Evacuate. Tokens is only going to get wins when it takes people by surprise. Once everyone expects it, it can get easily shut down.
I don't know, will this card really see play? Junk tokens is pretty much the only viable dedicated token deck ATM and its more of a fringe deck. Plenty of people are running Lingering Souls but do you really wanna run this just to answer 1 card? I guess it could be not completely irrelevant vs. a GW aggro list that's heavy on Call of the conclave and selesnya charm but it doesn't kill either of those tokens so it buys you maybe 1-2 turns.

Its not here as a "will see play" its here as a "just incase one of those decks overruns the meta".
INN had a powerful token set, and RTR/GCR followed it. Its a safety precaution that could become sideboard if necessary.

Its a side board card against Humans, Fairies (bitterblossum), Goblins, and other token decks. A one Black mana cost board wipe or negation of boosts enchants is nothing to sneeze at.
i hate this card. it completely invalidates token decks by simply existing. it was an extreme hate card that was unnecessary and completely ruined an archetype in casual and is likely going to prevent a competitive tokens deck from surfacing in any format this is legal except as a fringe deck.

That's a pretty extreme view. It's not like everyone will run this sideboard (or anyone mainboard) "because tokens"

They don't have to. If this card is in the format any tokens deck has 1 tournament to make a big win and then it's out. The second the deck becomes tier 1 this card is going to start coming into sideboards in force and unless it can consistently ignore it or destroy it (unlikely) before its presence at 1 mana prevents you from gaining board position, tokens are going to lose.
It's not that decks will have this in their sideboard in case somebody has a tokens deck. It's that decks have this as an option to put in their sideboard if tokens exist in the meta.
If there were a card that said:
1
Search target player's library for a Goblin and reveal it. If you do, that player loses 10 life and discards 2 cards. Exile the revealed card.
Nobody would sideboard this but it would mean goblins was out of hope. The fact that this card COULD be put into sideboards if goblins was competitive in a format (like legacy) would be enough to prevent it from winning more than 1 tournament in a row.

I have to agree with our poor crowd-hating gentlemen here. Unless a tokens deck becomes format-warpingly good, this card won't see a lot of play (if any at all), even in the sideboards of decks.

That's the point. If a tokens deck becomes good people will just start running this card and it will become a tier 5 deck because it will be impossible for them to gain any board position without an anthem effect.
It prevents any token deck from ever being top tier simply by existing. Nobody has to sideboard it for it to invalidate token strategies.

By that logic, naturalize completely invalidates illness in the ranks. The sky is not falling, this one card does not invalidate an entire strategy.

The exact same argument was said abut Cavern of Souls and counter spells... Hey look, pretty sure they still exist and see play.

How does a strict sideboard card do anything against casual decks? If you chose to make every other deck you own a token deck, then I guess your friends might run this, but otherwise, this is a tournament card.
Tokens had it's day in standard, and has been pushed to 2nd if not 3rd tier. Does this card hose that deck? Sure, but it's not a premier deck. This card was printed with eternal formats in mind, as it single-handedly attacks 2 of the most powerful decks in Modern and starts the discussion to unban Bitterblossom.
With that said, lets not all get Grafdigger-crazy in this Cage. Sideboard cards are what they are, sideboard cards.

Cards like Ratchet Bomb, Zealous Persecution and Echoing Truth are a much more elegant answer to token strategies and are also useful in other situations.
In standard, I'd rather run Detention Sphere.

Indeed, I am still waiting for the following to happen.
Grafdigger's Cage and Rest in Peace to invalidate Graveyard based decks.
Cavern of Souls to completely invalidate counters.
So now I guess we wait for token decks to pack it up forever now that Illness in the Ranks exists.
Feel free to bid on my cards here!
You left out Ground Seal =P
