Is it just me or is Rakdos keyword absolutely horrible?
The few cards they revealed it turned bad cards into mediocre cards that can't block.
Carnival Hellsteed
6 Mana for a 5/4 first strike and haste that can possibly be a 6/5 if you lose the ability to block.
Well there are tons of better 6 drop cards in current standard. I basically judge a card where you should get at least the power and toughness of the CMC. So a 6 mana should be a 6/6 and then it should also have a ability to make it stick out. This card has a decent ability, first strike, haste seems rather pointless at this point in the game but still it's either a 5/4 which is below average or a 6/5 that can't block which makes it still below average.
Grim Roustabout
2 mana for a 1/1 that can regenerate with 2? Seems like a worse version of reassembling bones. Once again it can be a 2/2 that can't block or 2 mana. I'd rather just play a zombie token.
I didn't play the original Ravnica but I figured Rakdos was a creature heavy guild and out of the few cards they showed us, the only two promising cards were control cards. Dreadbore -2 mana destroy creature/planeswalker and Rakdos Return XRB target player discards X cards and takes X damage.
In what case would Unleash compare to the other keywords and how exactly does it work well with Hellbent?
We haven't seen many creatures at all so far. Give it some time. So far, only some Izzet creatures are interesting and only then because of the power they give control decks.
The Steed is, of all the prerelease promos, probably the strongest bomb. The Roustabout is a simple common who has versatility in that it is either a suicide bomber that keeps returning, or a roadblock that keeps bumping up. Both good in limited.
I got good hopes for Rakdos so far.
Also - MaRo never stated that the old and new abilities have synergy, it's a common misconception. He simply stated you could put the two together and have a fitting thematic deck.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
Um no? Watch the con video. He directly said they will have synergy with each other. The horse the biggest bomb? Not even. Grove of the Guardian is a 8/8 with Vigilance for 5 mana. Wayfaring Temple can be much stronger than a 6/5. Jarad can be much stronger. Corpsejack Menance is almost as strong with a infinitely better CMC and ability. Archon is far better.

Strongest PRERELEASE PROMO. The Grove requires you to:
- Have 2 untapped creatures
- Miss a land drop (itself; essentially turning itself into a 6 drop)
- Sacrifice itself to create the token, meaning it's dead to a Snag or Unsummon.
While good, it's not as useful as the Horse.
Archon is a 4/5 for 7 that won't impact the board the moment it comes out. Yeah...no.
Oh, and here's your synergy: You want to play your guys fast. Which activates Hellbent. Voila; Synergy.

Lol I wish you were in America. You sound like a horrible player. Yeah a 6/5 that can't block for 6 mana is so much better than a 8/8 with Vigilance that can be cloned over and over....
And a 4/5 with flying that makes TWO permanents useless is far worse than a 6/5 that can't block.... <You sir are a idiot and I'd rather you take your stupid elsewhere so other people can post here.>
An 8/8 with vigilance that takes 6 mana to play (The 5 in its cost and the land itself) won't instantly be cloned. Next turn, sure.
The 4/5 Flier can't hold something down until the next turn. Which is turn...8, at which it'll make an impact. Probably later in Sealed too, given that your odds on ramp aren't that high, and then theres the always needing to hit your land drops.
Immediate impact.
Now I love how you simply call me an idiot for evaluating cards with a calm face, whereas you jump to conclusions based on 2 (!) cards. I've been so kind as to report you for flaming while I'm at it. Also nice that you call me an idiot when you can't even get the mana cost of things right. But hey.
As the initial point to your argument was; no, Rakdos isn't getting the shaft. We'll have to wait and see what else we'll get. All we've got are two cards. As others have stated, it's like saying Undying is bad because lolButcher Ghoul.

This is hilarious. Haste is one of the most useful keywords that can be printed on a large creature and you pass it off as 'rather pointless'. And then you tell other players they're bad!

2/10, try harder next time.
2/10 is generous.
@ Fcrow: Don't call other players bad when you yourself seem to lack the potential of evaluating cards.
This is the best limited bomb from the 5 prerelease cards.
EDIT: @ OP again, Yes you are correct, there are many 6cc drops that are better in the current standard, however, how many of those are rotating out?
Yeah... you're a bad troll, or you simply do not understand Magic: The Gathering.
That seems like a ripoff. Why would anyone play that when the next spell you cast will make your opponents draw a bunch of cards? It does not even look good for mill decks.

Okay, so I take that back, one thing; how is detaining two permanents BAD, exactly? Because you emphasized the number of permanents it detains. Sure, the card in question isn't amazing, but using it's upside as a reason its bad... I don't understand. Also, don't undervalue (relatively) large creatures with evasion in sealed, especially when they have an all-upside ability.

It hasn't been great so far, but we have a LOT more cards to see. The actual unleashed mechanic could be very good on 1 and 2 cost creatures, which we havent really seen any of yet (1 common I believe).

There's 200 cards to go for the set, and I agree, looking at the current creature's that are spoiled, the mechanic does seem underwhelming, but there might be something good for Rakdos left in those 200 cards. Also, new Rakdos sorceries seems really good

Rakdos will be playing a hyper-agressive agro-burn style deck. Just like it should! It didn't get shafted at all; people just have to adjust their thinking about how to build the right B/R deck.

WoTC, thank you for finally announcing the Modern format, an eternal format where everyone can participate.
Sphinx is really good. Control will play it and be able to protect him just fine, hes a much better finisher then Jwar Isle and thats saying a lot considering how good he alone is. Bazzar Trader.dec now has 16 threaten effects. Thats really, really, really, really good. Really good.
Hasty first striker 6/5? I can't see how bad that is.
I, myself, will be choosing Rakdos or Golgari in the pre-release because they could end the game before the others will stand the chance. Siding with these bad guys in Limited seems a good pick for me. I am not into long games anyway so unleash and scavenge (this needs to be mentioned) will do the job.
In constructed, I do not know how good unleash will be. But this might give aggro a new way thinking, having the can/n't block clause will play its role how to be 'aggressive'.
A 6/5 for six with haste and first strike isn't bad. It's only bad two or three turns later in when it can't block. So it's a win NOW card. Which is exactly what Rakdos does best... Except that isn't the best strategy these days, what with the crazy amount of sweepers that will be around. Rakdos didn't totally get the shaft (the rares look good... but that Mythic I'm so unsure about) but their strategy isn't good for the current metagame that seems to be around, which is too bad.
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
To me, regardless of how bad or good any individual cards with unleash end up being, the keyword still seems to be one of the most uninteresting and unnecessary keywords yet. It literally can only do one thing, ever.
At least with hellbent anything could be tacked on, including powerful effects since having no cards in hand is a pretty bad thing, and it could be used with creature and non-creature spells.
