snap is not a standard legal card, and bouncing a guy who has a drain cit is hugely underwhelming, as you need to do something with the time you have bought, being down a card is not a light cost, and the obzedat is way better in this respect then the much played hellkite
He pretty obviously meant Snapcaster Mage.
And I disagree with him, as Extort will make most unsummon effects pretty bad against Orzhov decks... they'll just recast the spell and drain you for more life.
I really like Lazav. Havengul Lich, Lazav, Nightveil Specter, Consuming Abberration... Forcing the opponent to play against their own deck must have been the dream of someone in R&D (I think Chromatic Lantern even mentions the Dimir in the flavor text).
Does a Rites player even have a way to deal with a hexproof Griselbrand that isn't named Griselbrand (so the legend rule doesn't work)?

Really this is my problem with this Ghost Council... You don't do anything with it, you can't build around it. Decks will run it because it is a good card in it's colors and you run good cards in your colors. It is dumb fat.
You sir are ignorant of deck building principles. Saying you cant build around him is more then evidence of that. Anyone with any shread of W/B control building knowledge can see this card is a gold mine and sets life drain decks into over drive.
You shouldnt make such statements if you are bad at building W/B decks, it makes you sound silly.

That's always my #1 MO when playing UB,
so I'm quite ecstatic to see so many Dimir cards supporting that theme.
Now, if only the (other) Dimir Mythic is Praetor's Grasp with Cipher...

Jeez, there's a lot more to Lazav than I was ever hoping for. After some careful consideration I doubt he will be standard playable, but that doesn't mean I won't play him anyway.
Right, right. Cause paying an extra mana and sacing every time you use his ability is just soooo much better then paying 5 once and being done with it. That is sooo much better.
Well, it depends- are you going to be using death to your advantage? Well, why are you playing Black-White creatures as your finishers instead of Green-Red ones?
I think that a lot of people ARE disappointed that you don't have as many 'tricky' things to do with Ghost Council 2.0 based on doing things that 'seem bad' to n00bs and Timmies, but turn out to be excellent synergistic strategies to Johnnies.
The differences between this Obzedat and the first one are:
1 mana downpayment
1 Power/Toughness
==================
these should be ignored and put down to a different standard of P/T/M numbers now from then.
Then we go to his abilities
1 extra drain point
=================
again, I'm ignoring this as 'a Modernization update'
Really, it seems to me that the entire Discussion of Obzedat, Ghost Council versus Ghost Council of Orzhova beyond aesthetics like name/art/flavor text or lack thereof should be entirely focused on this question:
Is it a good thing or a bad thing that Obzedat does not cost a sacrifice to exile?
I wouldn't necessarily say "ignore" the haste, but it also seems to me like 'necessary pushing to fit Modern Power Creep on creatures', and it gives Obzedat almost a "Dead Ball Lightning" feel which is sorta creepy/cool? Haste is certainly more worth arguing over than all the little +1's to the Melvin bits, but that's it.
Original Ghost Council has been around long enough for people to evaluate. Start with his forums to discuss everything else about him. For Obzedat, there's only one part worth talking more about. There's no logic in having a different opinion on Obzedat unless it's centered around the sacrifice part of the Exile cost.
Oh, you were expecting me to TELL YOU what I thought about the Dimir Guildmaster?
I am probably every color-combination it is possible to be, though it's really hard to figure out what it would mean to be 4-colored....it doesn't seem logical to be 4-colored without being 5-colored.
I really looked forward to a new epic guild leader. Was not dissapoint.
Obzedat is quite possibly the best midgame finisher in post-GTC Standard so far, barring Swagtusk.
Lazav is also really great, going to be an all star in French EDH and regular EDH alike.
Keyrune is good, but I doubt it will see that much play.
For what it's worth, the opposite of evergreen is "deciduous" so I suggest we start using that from now on to refer to shroud, banding, islandhome, etc.

I'd reconsider that answer on Keyrune. Let me tell you about a friend of mine by the name of Creeping Tar Pit...
Looking back at these, I'm most excited about the keyrune.
Its the only keyrune I see as being playable.
2 mana for 2 damage every turn is fair. 2 damage to waste their removal would also be fair.
The added option to tap for B/U is awesome.
Obzedat of course is better but I do see keyrune as being playable.
Why does Lazav have hexproof? I think it would've been more balanced and flavorful for him to have shroud instead. I don't mind hexproof, but now it seems like it is on every other creature.

How knows? Because haste never showed up on black or white creatures ever...
