"I have no idea what it's like not to be a straight white male, and the experiences of others are irrelevant." -Conservative Motto
Calling someone a Commie is flaming and must be stopped, but turning the word Conservative into a loaded pejorative and using it over and over again is perfectly acceptable.
Don't you remember Nissa? She was a tribal walker who worked with Elves and required Elves to work (a tribe that is miles ahead of merfolk btw) and in case you don't remember, she never saw play in any kind of format because she died to bolt even after activating her first ability.
Nissa didn't get played because she sucked. I think it would be great if they made a good tribal planeswalker that didn't die to Bolt or make you play with crappy cards.

Foreigning out SI, currently 33/75. The only thing better than a T1 kill is doing it with cards no one has ever heard of and/or can't read. If anyone has any of the usual pieces, PM me. I'm willing to buy/trade.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
she never saw play in any kind of format because walkers who can only work with one strategy can't adapt to new environments and the constant changes that shape and reshape the metagame
I don't know about you, but I saw Nissa/Eldrazi Monument decks heavily in standard pretty much for the entire time they were legal. No need to adapt when you're the one forcing people to deal with you.
yeah nissa/monument decks were kinda poopular before worldwake.Jund still laughs at it

Stop wasting your time here and come to a forum that actually fosters intelligent discussion: Fires Rf Salvation
I mean, they're not all good, but that doesn't meant they don't exist.
Besides, the real reason this is not a reprint of Lord of Atlantis is that he doesn't fit in modern magic. Nowadays:
1) cards don't reference real-life names (see the move from Wrath of God to Day of Judgment)
2) Lords have the creature type of the creatures they buff
3) They only grant the abilities to other creatures of the same type that you control (because it's simpler and makes more sense, not because it's more powerful).
Yes, it so happens it will fit in a legacy deck, but not one that has done well recently; this card is basically only so that Lord of Atlantis can be in standard.
This card is ****ing ridiculous. Any lord for 2 CMC is kinda crazy, but a lord for 2 CMC with landwalk and that's in blue? I thought blue was supposed to be the weakest in the creature department! *sigh* Though I guess I should reserve judgement until we see how the other lords balance this out.
Please let them all be 2CMC and please let the B one be a vampire, it's all they need to be a real deck once more.
Blood Artist, Lord, Stromkirk Captain, Nighthawk, Nocturnus and removal suite, please let it be.
Dont forget Lord of lineage and autobananahammmockous autohamhawkton

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
Traditionally a lord is a 2/2 that grants an unconditional +1/+1 and an ability to a certain creature type. Lord of Atlantis, Goblin King, and Zombie Master are the originals, with only Zombie Master deviating from the formula (being a 2/3).
Mayor doesn't count as a lord because he is a 1/1 to start with and his other abilities partially depend on what your opponents do. Auriok Steelshaper doesn't count because he takes another card before his bonus kicks in and is a 1/1 as well. Hamlet Captain only grants the bonus when he attacks or blocks and gives no other ability. Wizened Cenn and the Slivers are closest to true lords, but still don't grant extra abilities. None of them are as straight up efficient as Lord of Atlantis.
It is really odd to me that WotC keeps saying blue should get the worst creatures, but then they keep giving blue some of the best creatures. That's just bad design and development if you ask me. And it's been this way since Alpha. If the other colors get a similar lord to this one, I won't be as upset.

God forbid you are upset. (Gotta be a dick here, "I'm offended" gets tossed around like a valid complaint too much.)
There's the fact that U has the worst creatures, so adding a cheap lord for them gets the least mileage than adding it to any other color. You say that Wizened Cenn is not a lord, but it was used in mono-W Kithkin lists like mad, and if it had had additional abilities it would have been over the top.
A lord (defined as a creature you drop on the board and gives +1/+1 to a certain tribe, and none of that arbitrary 2/2 and extra ability ****) is only as good as the tribes it lords over.
Give Merfolk a UU lord and they get a bit better. Give Goblins a RR lord and they are way too good.
The difference here is that Goblins win due to numbers and speed, and Merfolk win over the long game so the power boost doesn't give them too much of an edge.
It would be cool if Merfolk became a viable deck in the next Standard format (prob never happening lol). Don't know if anyone has said this yet but it's pretty clear he's replacing Lord of the Unreal.

...you're thinking about it too much. Nowadays a lord is any creature that grants a pump or ability to a tribe. Lovisa Coldeyes and Eladamri, Lord of Leaves are both lords.
I really wish they had given more support to illusions in the last few sets. I have a casual illusions deck that needs some love. If only invisible stalker had been an illusion!
I could see this possibly replacing merrow reerejey just so you can consistently pump out all your creatures with the vial. Just speculation of course, since merrow is still quite good.

Fine. Even when you consider all those cards you mentioned lords, which of them is the best? The answer is still the blue one. It saw Standard play when it was reprinted in Time Spiral and is in a Legacy deck which was top tier until fairly recently. So until Kithkin become a Legacy deck to beat, I still don't think your argument is a good one. Merfolk is a strong tribe and has been strong in multiple formats.

Forgot about that one. So that makes 4 blue 2cmc lords, 1 white and 1 green. Seems about right...
