And yet more people immediately jump on the Sorin will be BW bandwagon. Ye gods but you guys need to learn that the color of art doesn't have much to do with color of the card.* Besides that, Sorin's personality isn't going to change. MAN, this is a tired argument.

Aside from that, the sword in Sorin's art is badly positioned, but the face is okay. I like the little touch of magic swirling on his fingertip, but the background is also doofy. I mean, that's a cartoon castle. It's so over the top and exagerated it's bad.
The deck box is good. The color play is well varied and offers a lot of contrast. The camera positioning is poorly done though, but I can't fault the piece for details.
I want that playmat. Good god I want that. I haven't wanted a piece this badly since Angelheart Vial. The color interplay is just simply gorgeous, and the feeling of the piece is overwhelming.
I'm surprised nobody pointed it out but the play mat doesn't have all the stupid numbers on it like that last ones have had. That alone makes me happy. I would like my Liliana's Caress play mat a lot more if not for the dumb life counter on it.

Absolutely love the Sorin art and the playmat art. I will be picking up a set of those sorin sleeves and most likely one of those playmats. Love the flavor of this set already, and hopefully it holds up to Innistrad, one of the best sets in recent memory.
I drooled at the playmat. I usually pick one card from a set to collect and that one seems perfect for me. I hope it's a nifty vampire with a weird ability!
Also, I'm totally buying that playmat and I don't even know what playmats are for!
i wish they'd stop with that computer generated garbage. it looks awful. i would never buy those sleeves.
the art on the box feels really generic and completely uninteresting. is it supposed to be liliana? some random goth chick with a big snake? either way the shadowing is terrible.
kind of curious as to what the card on the playmat will do, but since they never choose anything powerful or even iconic to go on a playmat, its probably interesting (not great) art from a crappy card that no one will use outside of maybe limited.

I really tend to agree with anti-computer art sentiments and yours is no different. Do I appreciate the use of computers to create art? Yes, but I would love if the medium didn't dominate the art on most Magic card sets presently. Please, wizards, give us more of a variety than CG-ed artwork.

This. A step into the right direction.
Things that kept me from buying Playmats are
1. The Numbers as Lifecounters
2. Akward Borders
3. Logos / Setname
->So ANYTHING that covers the art.

right? i mean, the way steve argyle uses the computer to create art is pretty alright. its overly stylized and very generic, but it doesn't look... bad. enhancing art with the computer is great, it makes it pretty generic sometimes, but sometimes it works pretty well to make something stand out more. lately though this stuff is just... terrible. that promo art with nissa and sorin fighting eldrazi was some of the worst ever, and this new sorin art is almost on par with that abomination.
drew tucker's water color atrocities during fallen empires may not have been for everyone... but at least it had some style and uniqueness. i'm not saying it was by any means good, but i'd take that over this unmemorable trash.
Speaking of Sorins Sword, might that be the Bloodletter Raben was hunting?
I wonder if you're right!
My take on the art: Sorin is too symmetrical, his features are pinched, and his sword is incredibly awkward even if he is leaning it on his shoulder.
The snakecharmer has the best art by far, but why are 9 out of 10 women in Magic always a 9 on the 10 scale and covered in skimpy, impractical gogo gear? (My shirt can hardly contain my boobs and it doesn't connect to my sleeves, but you can see my shoulders! Isn't that sexy lol?)
The vampiress in the third art suffers from more unnatural symmetry and something I like to call squishboob: the artist conforms the figure's breasts to the clothing rather than the clothing to the breasts. Uncomfortable.
I know someone who's going to love that Sorin artwork. And while I don't really like the art on the playmat, I dig the cleanness of it as a whole. The art takes up the whole darn mat, while the logos and copyright stuff all stuck in corners. It's a mat I'd be happy to play on, despite that I dislike the art.
Don't really care about the deckbox. I just use the ones from the Event Decks.
Really like the Sorin art, the middle chick is ok, and the bottom one is... Odd. Very unique I guess I'd say, but definitely not something I want on my play mat.

IIW for any CCC (pick the highest one in the list):
A high-costed equipment (I want it big, but make sure it isn't nutso-broken with Stoneforge. So a high equip cost or a benefit for casting or something)
A Squirrel Wizard
A G?? (1-3 colors, including green) legendary creature with its main strat based on not attacking

While I agree that card art doesn't necessarily represent the colour of the card, planeswalkers are (usually) supposed to define their colours, and the art is an easy way to convey that. With the possible exception of Nicol Bolas, how many other planeswalkers have had colours in their art that didn't correspond to their actual colours?
Er...I guess Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas is kind of an exception, but iirc during speculation I think more people thought it was U/B than U/B/R or something.
Basically, if you want to open packs to get cards for Standard and Modern, the simpler approach is to just buy all the singles you need and then set some money on fire to make up the difference.

She's wearing a corset... of COURSE her boobs are going to be squished. That's what corsets do.
Edit: On closer examination, it's not obviously a corset, but everything about the design suggests it.

It does look a bit weird now that you mention it, but he's a vampire. He's got the strength to wield that sword however he sees most badass.

Yeah, but I won't be upset if this happens to be the artwork on Sorin's PW card. At least he isn't in an awkward stance like Liliana was in hers.

Ajani Vengeant had green (on leaves). Karn, Liberated had yellow, which is typically on White planeswalker arts (see: Elspeth Tirel, Ajani Goldmane). Koth doesn't seem to have any actual red in his art at all. Sarkhan the Mad only had kind of a greyish-black in his background (such as it is).
