Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"

So if Skullbrair is killed with -1/-1 counters, it immediately dies as soon as it's brought back from the general zone, right? That's pretty ☺☺☺☺ing cool. (Melvin-wize)
These are some sexy ass cards. Especially the WB one. I thought he was gonna suck, but he's pretty savage and awesome.

Feel free to tell me yours!
That neoclassical portrait style actually makes a lot of sense to me as an illustration for a legendary creature. I could imagine it framed on a wall alongside other famous and important individuals of Trest (wherever that is).
If I saw these illustrations as Formal Portraits of the character involved, but he is literally the only artist on their payroll that treats his subject this way.
Mox Opal is creepy hand model's wet dream and the Opal itself is tiny. It's his handling of Opal that really brought to my attention his limitations as an artist. Elspeth, Knight-errant is annoying to me because she is the one of only a couple of planeswalker that looks like she is posing for a renaissance fair costume portrait - Koth being the other offender. The rest feel like action shots.
And, when I look at the rest of the legendary creatures they feel like they are natural in their settings (I am partial to Nils Hamm so this Zombie Elemental is one of the most exciting pieces I have seen in a long time, but whatever) even if they are posing for the camera like Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer - my non-Baga offender.
I get that there are those that like this way of doing the art, but I wish those doves behind Endric were alive and not taxidermied. I wish he didn't look like a robot David Bowie (I christen his Robobowie). I wish he felt alive and exciting because his ability is much more interesting than the illustration.

You know, I was ready to defend Baga's classical style, but you're exactly right. The closest artist I think he could be compared to is Donato Giancola, who's style is much less rigid. I like some of Baga's art, and it works for a card like Stoic Angel, but this new legend looks like some sort of bullet-time screen capture. I think maybe I've been giving Baga a pass to vent my frustration at Jason Chan for the very same issues. Despite their different mediums, both artists appear to have a habit of posing their figures a little too stiff.
Nils Hamm is almost always good. My faith was shaken after that declasse elf-thong incident, but the man knows from human skulls. The new vampire is a solid hit too. I love the gluttonous use of empty space; it's rare to see a Magic card whose art doesn't fill the rectangle, and it should be, but this is a great exception.
Now I am every more excited about these, I will have to get them all now. Dangit there goes even more of my GenCon money...but they are doing Sealed Commander with these there, so might have to just pick them up there...

Robobowie is perfect! Yeah, Edric's art is super disappointing in exactly the ways you describe. He does look political, which his ability clearly is, but his ability is combat triggered, and he looks as still as a statue. And the face is total Bowie. Wow that's bad art. Love Edric as a general though. Quite strong.
Vish Kal impresses me too. 7 mana is a ton, but hey I play Bosh and I used to play Kaervek, so the 7 doesn't bother me that much for such a strong beatstick. If he sticks around people will die quickly. And if ever there was a general for whom Blade of the Bloodchief was meant, Vish is it. Damn, I might have to make the deck just for that!:D
Skullbriar is quite quirky indeed, and I won't even get into his abilities, but his art is great. Very nice.
It's so cool the spoilers are staring to leak out!! Monday should be awesome!
I like the elf alot, but it's truly a challenging card to play, as any of your opponents can take advantage of it... especially token decks.
I.e. you play Eldric, token guy after you attacks a bunch of people, draws a bunch a cards, and then shoots a cheap removal @Eldric.
Skullbriar is just awesome, since when did zombies get haste!!! It self generates tokens, and retains it even in death. It's no Zur the Enchanter or Uril, but still pretty rad. I'd definately want one Skullbriar... and im now debating between RUG and the BUG decks.
Vampire legendary... isn't anything special. If you wanna play Twilight stick to Anowon.
What broken things can you guys find with Skull-Briar other than the obvious (i.e. +1/+1, +2/+0, etc... counters)? There's charge counters, but not many cards look at such things. I guess there's also time counters from cards like Musician that give Cumulative upkeep--but that's more of a nerf than a buff in his favor...I'm sure there's some stupid combo involving some old card that uses some archaic wording that involves counters that were met to be removed when the creature changed zones...
Note: The best use I can find so far, other than power/toughness modifying counters, for Skullbriar is Sporogenesis. Not game-breaking but pretty fun never-the-less. And he's the right colors for a saporling/spore deck. Making him into a fungus and using fungal bloom/ancient to give him spore counters is pretty nice too.
Appendum: Aside from power/toughness changing counters, this would apply to feather counters from Mimeomancer*, Bounty Counters from Bounty Hunter (if his colors were changed), Bushido/Training Counters (Sensei Golden-Tail)*, Bribery Counters (Gwafa; doesn't mean much though), Mannequin Counters (Makeshift Mannequin)*, Magnet Counters (Magnetic Web), Fungus Counters (Mindbender Spores, but they go away next turn)*, Divinity Counters (that which was taken), Spore Counters (this one isn't that bad actually given the colors; except he's not a fungus), Fate Counters, Ice Counters, Fungus Counters *again* (Sporogenesis), Hourglass Counters, and Sleep Counters.
He could also get Scream, Fading, etc... counters and a bunch of other crazy stuff that doesn't actually do anything ala Fate Transfer and changing permanent types. But not in EDH since he's green/black...
*Would things like this even apply their effects after the creature changes zones?!
Wow, Skullbroar, the Walking Grave, may be the first creature to retain it's counters if removed from the game or sent to the graveyard. Hell, it'll even keep it's counters if it is forced to morph or is phased out. How odd, yet awesome.
Time to go to the lab & figure out some cool synergies
Edric seems absolutely insane. Not only does he net you mad CA, but he also turns all your opponents against each other. Eeeeeexcellent. Not only is he cheap and has the makings of a competitive general for multiplayer as well as 1v1, but he also seems like a blast to play in casual multiplayer since everyone will be drawing and crazy, crazy crap will be happening everywhere. Excellent, succinct text, sweet flavor, awesome picture...just great design overall. Totally makes up for my disappointment with basandra.
vish kal is as good as I could have hoped for the CC. combos cool with horobi, death's wail, and he's a really strong rattlesnake against...anything, plus a bomby voltron that pretty much MUST be blocked. sorta like kresh, but with evasion and built-in creature eating. the lifelink rocks too.
disappointed with skullbriar, as kitsunewarlock pointed out, there aren't many actually useful counters to be used. He seems cool, and interesting (and rule-bending) design, but ultimately I think he's still vastly overshadowed by glissa in ability to abuse GB, and overshadowed by doran as a voltron general. Could be fun, but I highly doubt competitive.
These suck except for the UG which of course is good even in legacy bant. Of course wizards had to give them a good creature and give BW an un playable one. Good one wizards.
So I attack with my tarmogoyf which is bigger than your creatures, if you don't block I draw a card, if you block your creature dies.
My playgroup does a lot of team games (2HG or Emperor), so Edric is getting a deck post-haste. I think turning my teams' critters into Selkies on 'command' is going to swing a huge number of games in our favor.
Skullbriar seems like it will be a lot of fun. I'm not beside myself to give it it's own deck, but I've been rattling around a counter (as in the +1/+1 kind) based UBG concept for a while, so it will be interesting to see if one of the new wedge Commanders is better than Vorosh for that type of deck.
Vish Kal is big and splashy and interesting, but again I think I like him in a wedge (WBR) better than on his own. Something about combining him and Treason-esque effects and Insurrection just makes me smile.
All told, the more of this product they spoil, the more interesting I find it. I'm looking forward to this Summer of Multiplayer more than a little.
Meh. Out of all the legends currently available, I have yet to see any of these "replace" a current best general in those colors. I just wish all of these legends were a little spicier on the competitive side. We are talking about a format in which Sol Ring is legal.
Oh yes indeed I do; I also remember our Little Green Hitler.

I don't think that works. While it would keep the mannequin counter, it would not keep the sac ability when it changes zones.
