Too bad Jace bounces him, but if you do get to cast him, it's probably gg. With the absurd mana costs there's got to be tons of ramp, mana "storage" through tokens, cost reducers ala eye of ugin, maybe cloudposts/tron style lands are in.
The leveling up reminds me a lot of the split cards from Kamigawa, except you pay mana to "flip" them that could potentially have more than one ability or means to "level up". I like them, so many possiblities. Makes me wonder why they didn't do this with allies before, seems like the +1/+1 counters mechanic was psuedo leveling, but just didn't pan out.
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but in a lore-related note, at least we now know some more about those hedrons, right? It looks like it's coming out of one.

Protection from colored spells so that it could also have protection against ghostfire. ghostfire is colorless, but it is also a colored spell. right?
this is really a good replacement for Iona, sheild of emeria for U/W chapin deck. so u wont worry if iona is milled. and it also protects your deck from mill strategies. and u have chalice for mana, and no problem tapping out since your going to have another turn to annihilate and open mana to counter doj, gatekeeper, etc.
Ghostfire is colorless. Therefore it is a colorless spell.
If I ever see someone Gather Specimens this guy I'll laugh for a week.
I'm more concerned about the Eldrazi after Alara block rotates out. Most of the "one-size-fits-all" good removal is from there, whereas Zendikar seemed to focus more on -X/-X or restrictive removal.
Don't forget we have the rest of RoE and also SoM for some "one-size-fits-all" removal before we have to worry about O-ring and Journey rotating
this card is soooooooooo redonkulous.
I saw it, have a hearty chuckle, and just shook my head, muttering under my breath, "It has begun."
and this comment put it over the top.
What can we do if it passes THE SHIVIAN METEOR TEST?
days like today make me love magic that much more...
oh, forgot to mention... I mean... why... why is a giant mass of mushrooms Magic's most formidable creature? I've been speechless sense I've seen it.
Granted, I'm snowed in here in Denver listening to chiptune, so I have no reason to talk... that's all besides the point.
Ok, so it's neat the Emrakul is the biggest creature ever and has basically the best abilities ever but...isn't it still a big yawn for you guys? There's just something about a large colorless monster with tons of abilities that feels so generic to me. I mean, this guy is LESS generic/unoriginal/yawn-inducing than the first eldrazi spoiled, mainly because this guy is better and better than that one. But I'm still not impressed with wotc's design of these guys.
(That said, I can't imagine any of the eldrazi being better than this one; he has evasion, huge annihilator, and is immune to most removal. Considering both are basically uncastable, I'd never play the other one. It's all summoning trap tricks with these guys.)
(I also find it somewhat interesting that the eldrazi are anti-reanimation, yet still encourage things like summoning trap or djinn of wishes. If wotc really wanted to make these "hardcast-only" they could have, but they didn't.)
The level up dude is intriguing. It's a neat growing mechanic with nice flavor.
why does it need to say "can not be countered" if it has pro from colored spells? Would Mindbreak trap still hit this?
mindbreak trap isn't countering spells, it removes them from game. So it can counter this guy. The protection is irrelevant coz protection only works once it's in play as a permanent.

Sigh. I'm getting tired of explaining this to people. Is that hard to read even a little bit of the thread?
Progenitus has a replacement effect. (That means he cannot be reanimated.) This card does not have a replacement effect. It has a goes-to-the-graveyard trigger, which can be responded to. As a result, it can be reanimated.
Sigh,
There is what, one spell that reanimates at instant speed. I SUPPOSE you could second sunrise it. or maybe doomed necromancer it. that's it.
please go sigh somewhere where they give a damn about your effeminate whimpering.

Agreed. It doesn't look scary at all, unlike Kozilek.
A point to remember, this is the Pre-releaze foil, so the regular card in ROE boosters will have different art !
Actually the art on the full card side is the art that will be in boosters, if u look on the side with the leveler guy it has a pic of the pre-re foil to the left, the art is obviously different, and worse :S. They did this with comet strom last time i believe.
The card frame for Leveler makes me believe that it's going to show up in very small numbers, and only at higher rarities. It's kind of out-there and complicated, much like planeswalkers.
As for the Eldrazi, he's pretty much a house once you can cast him, but I think Kozilek is probably better just because he costs 5 less.
So wait.... Sarkhan Vol Turn 4, Elvish Piper Turn 5, give haste with Vol, put Eldrazi into play, and attack? Man I want this card to be good, but it really feels like R&D sat down and said:
#1 - What's the dumbest idea you ever had?
#2 - 15/15 for 15?
#1 - Make it dumber
#2 - Give it protection from removal and counter?
#1 - DUMBER!
#2 - Add Timewalk?
#1 - DAMN IT MAN, I SAID DUMB!! DUMB !!!
#2 - It destroys everything when it attacks.... And wait, I have a friend who plays mill decks... I want to beat him too.
#1 - Excellent! Recess is over, go back and learn sex-ed with the other 6th graders.

Microsoft's latest update for Gleemax was buggy, and resulted in multicolor in every block since Lorwyn.

^want.
Extended Elves would be a better fit. Besides, who's playing Pyroclasm!?
(That said, I can't imagine any of the eldrazi being better than this one; he has evasion, huge annihilator, and is immune to most removal. Considering both are basically uncastable, I'd never play the other one. It's all summoning trap tricks with these guys.)

mindbreak trap isn't countering spells, it removes them from game. So it can counter this guy. The protection is irrelevant coz protection only works once it's in play as a permanent.
Because Protection from Colored Spells only starts working once he's actually on the board, it's ineffective while he's still a Creature Spell.
Mindbreak Trap still hits him.

Exiling things from the stack gets around can't be countered, which is why people run Time Stop in EDH (mainly for Obliterate).
Protection prevents targeting and damage. Mindbreak trap doens't target (same reason why ***/DoJ hits Black Knight.
So Mindbreak Trap does counter this.
EDIT: Double 'nath'd again sheesh
