so hedrons may contain huge eldrazi titans that destroy everything? picture the following:
hedron crab waltzing round doing what he does with the hedrons, and it blows up and out comes an 11/11 eldrazi titan, poor hedron crab goes splat, no landfall, the titan ate your land
Totally sigged. Thanks for making my day
I really hope that the Eldrazi are epic, unique creatures. My inner Timmy is tingling, and they could have interesting applications in my Cube.
hmmm, I hope "To survive, you'll have to be at the very top of your game" doesn't imply that the cards are going to be so broken that you can't play the game if you don't get them.
Marketing drivel
I hope you didn't worry that Worldwake's product description: "Do you have the skills, wits, and courage to survive, let alone, thrive?" would imply that you couldn't play the game if you weren't brave enough. (just teasing)

If you came here expecting a signature, you've just wasted your time.
The Hedrons are causing the land to be dangerous, right?
I think the Eldrazi set up the Hedrons to suppress mortals. Then again, maybe mortals set hedrons up to suppress the Eldrazi.... (with the nasty side effect of making the land nuts)? ...... oooo
I'm hoping this means Wizards is going back to a more arc type of storytelling (IE: Weatherlight Saga). If they don't, I'm going to lose my ☺☺☺☺ing head. It's bull☺☺☺☺ that every time they say something like "CHANGES THINGS COMPLETELY", the problem is solved by the end of the block. I absolutely loved the Onslaught saga, for reference. This whole, introduce a new plane, then say goodbye to it forever (or at least a very long time), really pisses me off.

Thank god I am not alone. I played mostly from tempest onward and loved the whole Rath/Dominaria/Phyrexia setting. I stopped playing magic for a long time when they blew everything up.

That at least implies that you have to have some sense about you to be a good player. I don't want to go into a game where if I don't have a deck built out of every $50 card I'll lose.

Honestly, I hope the Eldrazi succeed. Destroy the plane, (taking all the vampires with it) and then set their sites on other worlds. This is a great bridge to bring us back to older planes.
The good guys don't always have to win. This could be Magic's "Empire Strikes Back" and will leave us on the edge of our seats when the block wraps up.
...and while I'm on that note, blocks don't always need to wrap up all nice in 3 sets.
I agree. I would love more sets to end with some big shake up and not show us how it gets resolved. I can't wait to go back to Ravnica to see how different it is after the pact is broken and I'm curious to eventually go back to Alara and see how its doing. I could be wrong but isn't the war still going on between the 5 merged worlds or are they at peace now?
I too am a little bored with the:
1st set "Look everyone, cool new story arc! Great new plane!"
2nd set "Oh Noes! Here comes a change to this neat new plane!"
3rd set "Oh sweet lord! Things are blowing up! People are dying! Uncomfortable situations! EVERYTHING IS CHANGED!!!!!"
At least will give us a new big bad that is something besides a naughty planeswalker or a cosmic shift of some kind. I kind of hope the Eldrazi (or even just 1) live on to cause some trouble in the future.
If you don't read the books, the cards don't do much of a job to tell the story other than "BLOWING THINGS UP! BIG MONSTER THAT WAS FORESHADOWED!"

I think Tempest was the absolute best for telling the story through the cards. Fallen Empires was good. Of course it didn't involve alternate realms and going back in time. I never could explain how Urza got younger through Saga and then all of a sudden got old by the time of the invasion. It's hard to understand that all of that is going on while the Dark, Ice Age et et is happening at the same time with very little interaction between the zones.
I'm not against the novels, but I do know it takes a lot of work to tie the flavor text on the cards to the cannon of novels without the novels existing first.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I'm really hoping they do better with the "villain" in this one, and agree with the lame plots so far.. Though I don't read the books anymore since they don't come with the fatpack (and won't until they change it back). Nicol Bolas is not a villain.. He's chaotic neutral at worst. He's responsible for saving the multiverse in timespiral and he was just pissed at his lost spark and he RESTORED alara to get his power back! HE DID A GOOD THING! Of course it was probably just a bonus to him but he's basicaly the ruler of the multiverse and should not be treated as a villain (or be deus ex machina'd out of the plot).
ANYway, enough of that rant.. I'd like something more akin to Mirroden or kamigawa or the awesome ravnica for plot. Alara was terrible and lorwyn was eh (the shadowmoor story was terrible and I couldn't read through it). I also wish they'd go back to storytelling through the cards too. I wasn't a big magic player at the time and reading about it, its awesome and gives you a reason to keep those trash commons.
That at least implies that you have to have some sense about you to be a good player. I don't want to go into a game where if I don't have a deck built out of every $50 card I'll lose.
MTG isn't like that, Junds most expensive card is $30.... Now if you want to play an inferior deck you have to pay up the ass.

Are you on crack? There is Baneslayer at $50, Jace at $55-60, Abyssal at $30 and most decks run 3-4 of these. Thats a ton of monbey to start. Even nissa's monument cost like $150 which is the cheapest good deck on the market IMO.
These Eldrazis better not be artifacts. They look like aliens. And now when I think Eldrazi I think Darksteel. I'm not liking this!!!! Oh and what if in worldwake, Walking Atlas was just a slip of the tongue. A hint towards Eldrazi and Colorless non Artifact creatures!

My money's on it not being any intentional foreshadowing, but much more likely something that slipped through because they had been spending too much time working with colorless non-artifacts in RoE.

Really? I wasn't aware jund could run baneslayer and jace, and btw Abyssal isn't going to be used in any current deck in standard. Vamps is cheaper than Eldrazi Green and is better.

Arent the Hedrons supposed to be part of the seal that keeps the Eldrazi back? And also contain various Eldrazi minions, as the case may be? I'd thought that was confirmed back in Zendikar with the Shrine.

baneslayer, jace, and abysmal prosecutor will be played in standard but they wont will all the time (maybe bainslayer but thats up for debate) because removal for them is too plentiful and too cheep. if they get big people will set out to take them down end of story
"To survive, you'll have to be at the very top of your game."
Could this mean that RotE is a very hard enviroment to play with?
Or is it just to appeal to Spikes?

It's an interesting idea that makes sense if you're trying to prevent people from building identical Eldrazi-based decks.
