Well the daily tools that post to say they don't believe Lightning Bolt is in can head go the Fact or Fiction rumor thread and stay there now
Excellent flavor text. I haven't been this excited about a core set in years, and I think that's exactly what R&D was aiming for. Hope the rest of the set is as awe-inducing!
I am... very curious what this says about M10 limited, if Lightning Bolt is safe to print as a common.
I'm guessing they're trying to get Core Set Limited closer to the expert level sets in terms of decisions and, er, power level of some cards. They'll be drafted highly, much like cards such as Resounding Thunder are/were in triple Shards. If anything, a common (!) Lightning Bolt could lead towards a common (!) Air Elemental, if for perhaps no reason other than for it to go to somewhere other than your opponent's face. Scary, scary.
Somehow I'm both glad and not surprised that the pack arts for Ant Queen and Vampire Nocturnus blow away the pre release and release promo arts of them.
I think it would be better as uncommon. If we compare it to Lava Spike or Shard Volley, for example, it's clearly better... and if we compare it to all the 3cc burn spells that deal 3 damage (like Resounding Thunder) it's even better.

Lightning Bolt is better than any uncommon burn, or rare, for that matter. But Common is where it was first printed, so it makes sense that way, at least.

Incinerate and Shock were common in 10th, people expected Incinerate to be uncommon then as well.
Removing both of those from the core allows this to be common, as it is likely the only common burn red gets in the set.

Correct, to some extent, but Wizards has adjusted things to affect limited (I'm fairly certain). For example, there was no 'real' reason to make Spark Elemental UC in 10th (originally common), or to make the Herald cycle UC, except to affect their commonality in drafts. Still, there's got to be some good removal at common, and Bolt is it.
Hopefully Sparky comes back. Red is gonna be really fast at least untill they empty there hand and go into top deck mode. lol
Well, Spark Elemental is one of the cards completely trumped by Lightning Bolt, since it's strictly worse (you're paying one mana to maybe deal 3 damage to a player, without the possibility of targeting a creature, and at sorcery speed). I doubt it will come back.
It's not strictly worse at all. I know bolt is usually better in the kind of deck that would run the sparky, but not better 100% of times since (for example) it cannot wear an equip, or be pumped or sacced to something
True, but if you've played a burn deck, Lightning Bolt is better 100% of the time just because it does hit for 3 every time. But I do understand how Spark Elemental could be better; it all depends on your build.
I hope they put something in to protect planeswalkers from 1 mana 3 damage burn. Why even play with planeswalkers? What happened to shock? I'm not liking this move.
Yes, lets all go buy up playsets of a COMMON off of ebay.
Maybe buy some packs?
Funny you mention this, when I heard it was getting reprinted, I frantically searched for my one copy buried deep in my casual/nostalgia decks, thinking all the while "if this is uncommon or, God forbid, rare, at least I got one of this suckers".
After it was revealed it was common I was relieved, now I will only keep cracking packs of m10 until I get the remaining three copies (any statistics fiend out there wants to calculate how many packs do I have to open before it happens?)

Well not every player is going to be playing red (insert assumption here based on one card). And it's not just lightning bolt, no one in their right mind would play a Planeswalker unless they had a way to defend the investment anyway. In the Core Set unless you splash green they won't be coming out earlier than turn 3, and by then there's much more than Lightning Bolt that can be played.
Then again to me Planeswalkers always seemed like a silly gimmick anyway. I haven't bothered checking out T2 since I picked up Magic again to know if they're really worth a putting in a deck and protecting in general. I know I don't see them in any Legacy decks, heh.
Limited is just going to be "grab every LB you see, even 1st pick."

The art shows a female, the flavor text references a male.
But it's still awesome.

If your answer is "Yes," then please, please reconsider.
