Ichor Wellspring is the NUTS with Time Sieve. It's also really funny after Sieving to Second Sunrise, and get to draw 2 cards off of it. Suggestions? Opinions? Thoughts?
On testing, Second Sunrise as solid a draw when you don't have it at the time you Time Sieve....
Btw - I plan on playing this for the Sunday Night Modern, so come on Cockatrice to play some Modern with people from the Sally forums!
engineered explosives seems really good here as well. not only can it help against aggro and midrange (our match), but you can bash with it as a 5/5. if need be, you can play it for free as well.
also, needs ponder or preordain. or both. would have helped you as well
Yeah, I'm also thinking of replacing the Borderposts with Talismans from the Mirrordin Block. Sure it's a pain to tap for colored mana, but at least it doesn't force me back a land drop :L
if he runs a ton of 1cmc things the talismans are tons better.

In life all we can do is try to make things better. Sitting lost in old ways and fearing change only makes us outdated and ignorant.
Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.

He should be.
Here is a list of stuff that I would run. also second sunrise is kinda meh, compared to open the vaults. I know it cost more, but you should be running a lot of mana accel.
you could also look into flayer husk since it can block and leave an artifact behind. you can also run a few artifact creatures ornithopters and memnites with springleaf drum. also ponder or preordain can increase consistency as tom mentioned.

Forgot that Darksteel Citadel was allowed. If I start running Signets/Talismans instead of the Borderposts, I can start running non-basics again. Which may help me in the "not color screwed" position. I definately should consider Thirst for Knowledge though, I completely forgot about the card. Glassdust was a card I originally had in the list as a one of, but for some odd reason just seemed a little iffy to me. I'll give him another try, seeing as if Tezz dies I'm kind of screwed :L

Architects of Will, and Glassdust Hulk are cheap cantrips which helps your consistency while putting artifacts in the yard for when Open the vaults. If only you had a way to give haste to glassdust hulk it would be funny.

After testing - I need more lands. Probably gunna jump to 20ish.
Theoretically, you could just cast him, Sieve 4 other artifacts and it, play Open the Vaults next turn and he has haste
So, idk. After testing against Death and Taxes, the deck just kind of dies to Pithing Needle and Phyrexian Revoker. I have Meddling Mages in the Side, which is nice, but I don't know what to do. It's a relatively slow combo deck, but it's fun as hell to play. I dont know what would make it faster. Maybe Simian Spirit Guide for extra mana, but not 100% sure here.

no spirit guide. bad in esper.
maybe... coalition relic? is and artifact, adds any color, and if you don't use it one turn you get two the next. downside: 3cc. but i like it.
they really need to ban chrome mox though. idk why its banned.
Coalition Relic might be a decent try. Idk. Not a whole ton of mana rocks avilable to us in this format :S Nor is there any real way to get a bazillion mana without playing Cloudpost.....
Wait a minute. Cloudposts.....why didn I see that.
What about Myr Retriever for this deck? Scrificing him to Time Seive brings another artifact back, lessening the cost. Would he be usable instead of something like Elsewhere Flask?

The only way I know to do it is to abuse artifacts. i could make a list...seems kinda like a pain though....i would again start with something like this
Architects of Will
Glassdust Hulk
thirst for knowlege
everflowing chalice
Elsewhere Flask
mox opal
darksteel citadel
Prophetic Prism
Thopter Foundry
Time Sieve
signets/talismans

because it doesn't make colored mana. you'd have a real problem with the 'post package. that's 12 land slots.
No, it's up to twelve land slots. Cloudpost saw play before Vesuva and Glimmerpost were even printed, and there's absolutely no reason you can't still run a 'post package with less then twelve pieces now. This deck isn't trying to play massive X-spells or even big fatties; I think it's totally reasonable to try running, say, six or seven 'posts for what it's going for. You only need two or three of them.

I was sort of thinking like this. Dropping 8 post in with signets, prisms, and other things might be a good idea.

i suppose you are right. but when we were testing it seemed he had trouble getting the colors he needed without the hassle of posts.
anyways, i think myr retriever should also be considered.
running the prism, mox opal, and signets/talismen is should not be a problem with 8 post.

I think the Borderposts would do fine. If you're running Esper, then just use the Mistvein and Fieldmist, as both provide blue, then Marsh Flats to help with white and black if you really need it, a couple of Plains and Swamp to fetch, and the rest Islands. It's much easier on the manabase, and you get the artifacts to sac. It also helps prevent what will likely plague many other decks, non-basic land hate.
The reason I think this would work is that I run a Cruel Control deck that uses this tactic, and it runs great. I am able to consistently hit my Cruel on turn 7, so long as I draw it.
True. Cruel Control used to be such a fun deck back in Standard
Anywho, I'm thinking of redoing the mana base like this:
4 Cloudpost
4 Glimmerpost
2 Misty Rainforest
2 Marsh Flats
5 Island
2 Plains
1 Swamp
And possibly switching over to Signets. The Glimmerposts give me life back agasint aggro decks (originally the list says to run like 4-6 fog effects, trying it without it atm) and should help me stall out enough.
Myr Retriever sounds good, but the key point of the deck is to throw stuff into the yard to bring back with Open the Vaults. Retriever is also a blocker in this deck, so maybe I'll try and fit him in somewhere....
EDIT: Also found another major flaw to this deck - Gaddok Teeg :L
Xeno, you definitely need Path's in your main board to take care of a couple troublesome creatures. Also, why not play Second Sunrise in modern? Other question, why sacrifice mana consistency when you can play shocklands in extended?
Well, my main concern with playing basics was to get around Tech Edge and Ghost Quarter ripping me a new one. I realize I can run duals and Basics in the same deck, so we'll see here.
The reason I don't run Second Sunrise, is because it doesn't return ALL of my stuff in the gy - just the stuff I sac to Sieve for an extra turn. Not as strong as it sadly
The idea for Shakles wasn't bad though. Certainly takes a Tarmo or a Teeg (Yes I still hate this card) and beat face with it.

4 Time Warp
4 Howling Mine
