a out-of-the-box combo brew, many of you might know from EDH. basically get mindslaver, academy ruins, and, um... 12 mana. But its possible, and quite achievable with the list i put together.
basically use GSZ as they do in "maverick", the legacy deck, to fetch dryad arbor and birds, but also use it to grab wall of roots / overgrown battlement (which work great together), and eternal witness (as backup). mana should start adding up quickly, also providing blockers.
preordain, ponder, and blue sun's zenith also help find what's needed, and blue sun's zenith can also be the win condition when taking infinite turns (forcing them to draw cards until they're dead, and mindslavering them to discard their best ones, just in case).
countering spells are also run, for obvious reasons. the ones i chose to run have minimal casting cost, so it's easier to leave mana open for them early game. i chose spell pierce over other cards that might seem better just because i'm not as scared of creatures when i have quite a bit of walls.
Brainstorm is not legal in the Modern format. You might want to look at putting this into the 12post or Tron shell so that you can get to the the required mana for the combo. Also I'm not sure how good Mental Misstep is in Modern yet so I'd be hesitant to play it maindeck for now.

wait, are you sure about brainstorm? i'm confused, i thought it was printed in coldsnap and has a modern background.
Modern Frame =/= legal in modern unfortunately, people still seem to be confused about this which is why I really don't like the name Modern. The Brainstorm that was printed in the Coldsnap theme deck is actually still considered a card from Ice Age, hence it has the Ice Age Symbol on it. If you check the Gatherer it will tell you what sets the card is from and if its from a set after 8th Edition it is legal in Modern.

ok, but i heard daze and fireblast were legal. hmmm its confusing =P
If you read the article very carefully explaining what is and isn't legal in Modern (at least for the community cup) they say they chose 8th and onwards as the cutoff instead of modern frames because so many cards have been printed in modern frames now. They actually specifically say that Fireblast and Daze are not legal in the format in the article. As for actual advice on your build, I'd check out old Tron decks or possibly the new "12Post" decks because that seems like the easiest way to get to 12 mana in the format, instead of relying on things like Mana Dorks. Also you technically don't need a wincon outside of Mindslaver because they'll just deck themselves eventually if you assemble the lock.

None of the cards in any of the theme decks are legal, otherwise we'd have access to Sol Ring and Demonic Tutor, and this isn't vintage :L
I think you're referring to ancillary products, cards in Theme decks certainly are legal (provided they aren't Skullclamp or Jitte) but ancillary product is not. That is to say FTV, Duel Decks, Commander, and any future ancillary product will not be legal in Modern unless the card was printed in 8th edition or beyond. So that is to say that you can play your FTV:Exiled Kird Apes, and Gifts Ungive but you can't play Goblin Lackey or Tinker.

ok, thanks guys
but i don't know, i think i prefer having the dudes over the "12 post" or "tron" lands because it provides me with blockers. any thoughts?

Don't really need blockers if you just lock them out with Mineslaver, plus you can play blockers like Primeval Titan or Ulamog if you really want.

here is the list:
3x ponder
3x preordain
3x spell snare
4x dismember
3x spell pierce
4x green sun's zenith
2x blue sun's zenith
Creatures
4x birds of paradise
4x wall of roots
4x overgrown battlement
1x eternal witness
1x mindslaver
Land
4x misty rainforest
3x verdant catacombs
4x breeding pool
3x dryad arbor
3x tolaria west
1x academy ruins
2x forest
4x island
as ridiculous as it sounds, i feel this has potential. feedback is appreciated, but no criticism please.
enjoy!

thats true, but i dont think the lock will be there for a few turns... and that would kill me against zoo/boros/etc.
all in all its not an amazing deck, but i just threw the idea out there. i'm sure it won't be tier.
