I don't get why they wouldn't do MED,MED,MED drafts? I understand that 10th packs will dilute the limited power of one MED packs, but people are opening the packs for all the goodies. Plus I think it'd be awesome to draft insane powerful decks.
Most likely because WOTC is more concerned with bringing out a representative set of pre-Mirage cards than they are in balancing the various aspects of gameplay, ie the ratio of creature to non-creature spells, exact color balances, internal set synergies, etc. These all take a lot of R&D to get right, and my hunch is that they have not invested the same level of R&D in MED that they would in new set. (Which is, BTW, why this will make them GOBS of money if it sells) Using 10th as a platform for draft and sealed will provide the balance needed to make the limited environment work.
You can set up MED-MED-MED drafts if you want in a practice room. But make sure you invite only people you know or you will have strangers coming in to rare draft and drop.
I'm fairly certain that ME-ME-ME drafts have already been confirmed for release week. I can't find the link at the moment. I saw it on the official boards.
As said in an article a bit back, most limited balance is concerning sealed. Draft doesn't need as precise color balance since drafting a wide-open "weak" color is a decent strategy, so R&D doesn't pay too much attention to it anyway.
As a mtgo only casual player who plays 99% of his games in the multi-room, I will say that right now I tend to shy away from classic. The reason...I can get pretty much the same game functionality out of extended. I expect that with the upcoming extended rotation though, that I will find myself playing in more classic. Also, and this is my personal opinion as a casual player only, I am very excited for MAS. I played back in the days of Ice Age and I look forward to playing with the older cards. Also, since MAS will be joined into Tenth after release, I'm hoping to join some leagues to take advantage of both (assuming that I can play MAS in leagues). Normally I don't buy packs outside of release, so this is definately something that has me excited.
i tend to shy away from extended, mostly because i don't have goodies from Invasion through Judgement.. everytime I've attempted extended its like i get screwed by the awesome multicolored cards (like Armadillo cloak or Fire//Ice ) So i play classic because I can at least get my hands on cards like Dark Ritual or Swords to Plowshares.. that being said though.. it needs at least a restricted list to keep it from being run over by rampant combo decks.. and obscene 4x of restricted T1 cards..
ME ME ME will be there on release day.. they've always done this for the release events I don't see why it wouldn't continue.. after release day however it could switch to XXMe drafts.. which would be a lot better (at least to me.. ) then plain old XXX drafts..

That is unless they intend to give you Mind Twist instead, though Hymn would be more appropriate if there would be an on-line Legacy.
Perhaps with its reinstatement as a four-some in Vintage, Black Vise might make its on-line debute? Perhaps Exploration, Gorilla Shaman, Stone Throwing Devil might make it in the set? Scroll Rack, or would that be asking too much. If Lake of the Dead is in, why not Gaea's Cradle?
It would seem that the exclusions would reach beyond the Power 9. Library of Alexandria would be out. Can anyone realistically see them providing Mishra's Workshop or Bazaar of Baghdad? Is it safe to presume that my favorite Magic card will not be returning to print on-line, oh how I miss you Balance.
Just some food for thought from a Vintage player....
I'd also like to make note that these are cards PRE mirage.. many cards you listed are being planned on returning to online (like Exploration when saga come and Scroll Rack when Tempest comes.. however all these will be over shadowed by Oath of Druids, Dream Halls, and then the Tolarian Academy ridiculousness)
to the guy above talking about "mult play".. i consider 2HG multiplayer.. in my clan however we've set up 6 man FFA's featuring classic all the time (i'd say in the 4 + months i've been a member of the clan its happened once maybe twice a week) while it may not be as convienent as say extended or standard.. you can get them going..

So all the cards in Masters are supposed to be pre-Mirage? So this would be the time when cards like Bazaar, Workshop and Vise could make it into MTGO. I already mentioned Hymn to Tourach, but other unrestricted things like Candelabra, The Abyss, Drop of Honey, Mind Twist, Ice Storm and Sink Hole are distinct possibilities. This is WotC's opportunity to release cards they said would never be reprinted leading me to presume that the original duals should be coming to MTGO as well. So will there be any gold cards or might they actually reprint the full Legends set later, after all they did re-release it in foreign languages (I know Moat was spoiled, but who knows).
So is there the possibility of getting foil Master cards? If so does that mean if you collect a set of foil master cards, can you trade the virtual cards in for a real set of foils?
WotC must have a Technicality Department.
EDIT: I guess gold is in since Lim Dul's Vault was spoiled.
The cards in masters are non-redeemable (in the press release it says so), so unfortunately even if you collect your foil set online it can't be redeemed for the paper versions.
Now that you bring the original press release up, I wonder what cards will get updated in oracle... I was hoping for thawing glaciers to be reverted to its original wording over its original intention at least.
actually i prefer http://ww2.wizards.com/Gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?id=1851 that version better.. Quinton Hoover is probably my favorite magic artist.. (i'm so glad they brought him back for some TS cards.. hopefully this means a full return..) nobody likes his wrath of god.. but i like it.. just reminds me the most of comic books and how fun they are
um.. yeah the set is non redeemable.. and for the most part.. you shouldn't be redeeming sets on MTGO anyways.. unless they are foil sets.. otherwise its just a waste of time.. but there are people who put sets together redeem them then sell the sealed sets for profit.. but the amount of effort that probably takes far outweighs the rewards for me.

This may be sad to say, but i'm hoping very much for an alpha counterspell in the common slot, next to alpha dark ritual. Counterspell is in far too low supply online compared to the demand for it. They would be doing many of their MTGO players a favor by reprinting it in ME.

Pygmy Hippo was made a hippo when "reprinted", so it's likley the Phelddagrif will be too.
Perhaps I was too subtle. Phelddagrif will be a Phelddagrif when it recieves a creature type. Phelddagrif is a valid creature type. Click on this card link for evidence: Questing Phelddagrif.

hogwash.. counterspells are all around online.. you may have to pay a buck a piece for them.. but it doesn't mean they are "far low supply".. and dark ritual has been on the last 2 "classic only" print runs.. (coldsnap precons, and mirage) besides.. tempest will come by eventually to drop off counterspells and Mercadian Masques will drop off dark rituals again.. I'd rather them NOT put those in this set and put other cards that aren't already online .. i'm just saying..
Hymn is awesome.. but the flying purple hippo.. is awesome.. i love it.. its such an awesome booby prize

(M:tG) It's a hobby which costs money. You can't play golf without the right clubs and a membership for the golf court, you can't play paintball with a cardboard armor and a sling, you can't go to the movies without paying for a ticket and you can't play Magic without owning the cards. Simple as that.
Depending on your preference, its better then Academy Ruins for recurring Mindslaver. Ruins is a land and much harder to deal with, but the archaeologist lets you draw, and if you are recurring mindslaver, that really shouldn't matter anyway.
I'll pick up a playset. Even if they stay rare, they'll be in the .50 cent range.
