That build looks better, though Taiga would be preferred to Karplusan
If only
I proxied it and it worked well.
First game was turn 1 Stomping Ground/Kird Ape.
T2: Karplusan Forest, double rancor, swing for 6
T3: Karplusan Forest, Spark Elemental, Giant Growth, Brute Strength, Swing for 15 for the win
Pissed my buddy off so much he had to pull out his near legacy merfolk deck. He beat me in a close game that one then
I have some bad experience with Briar Shield. A) u need to decide where the boost goes before u use it. B) creature enchantments were always card disadvantage if you loose the creature. C) We have Might of Old Krosa, Giant Growth, Bounty of the Hunt, Seal of Strength - every one of those are better, i suppose.
Well, that just shows how inferior Spider Umbra is I suppose.
We already exchange cards for damage, so card disadvantage isn't really taken into account here. The main time to sac a Shield is either A) When you are going for the win, and B) To trade favorably in combat/save a creature from a burn spell.
Land Grant – Pretty much a free land, especially in a deck that runs so few land. There’s nice tricks to be played with Quirion Ranger and Rogue Elephant. While its debatable as to the value of “thinning” (supposedly statistically insignificant), it seems pretty obvious that the effect of thinning in a deck with so few lands is much more significant.
So basically, it's a Forest, but it thins the deck of land. Obviously, deck thinning is a debatable topic. But, in a deck with only 10 land, reducing the land count by 1 in the deck really does affect the odds a lot more than in one with say 24 land. Also, it is a green card to be pitched to Vine Dryad and Bounty of the Hunt, as well as Talara's Battalion should you go that route.
Bone Doc... thoughts on Assault Strobe for my G/R Stompy build?
I feel that the Hellspark Elemental may be to slow for my tempo. I just figured the unearth ability would make it gold. I have't had a game where I played Stompy go past the 6th turn yet though.
I'm also having wicked trouble taking on my friend's merfolk. Ideas?
I tried building my own Legacy-legal version of Elf Stompy on MTGO, since it would be easier for me to test (and cheaper to build since Berserk is a fraction of the price). Anyway, I had already spent about 30 tickets to complete my deck before I realized that Masques block hasn't been done on MTGO yet, and I have no access to Land Grant.
Is there any suitable replacement for that card? I feel like it's necessary, and I don't want to run the deck without it. And I certainly don't want to wait months before they release Mercadian Masques online. Anything I can do in the meantime?
Here's my decklist for reference (I'm also looking for any sideboard suggestions. I'm very new to Legacy.):
Verdant Catacombs will get you the fetch and thinning effects, but it's not going to count as a green spell for Talara's Battalion. As far as I know, Land Grant is the only free land fetch spell. Search for Tomorrow is about the cheapest alternative, but you have to wait for the land.
I thought the advantage to going with an elf stompy build was the abuse of permanent lord effects (vs EoT pump spells). See my list below as one example. Without the lords, I think the elf theme loses some luster. There are better non-elf cards you can run.
Thank you for the Search for Tomorrow suggestion. That seems like the best substitute for now.
I really like the Elf build for a couple reasons. Since Llanowar Elves and Quirion Ranger are necessary in the deck, it already gives me a good Elf base. Also, the Vanquisher is a 3/3 for 2, provided there's another Elf in my hand. Wirewood Pride becomes really strong, potentially giving me +4/+4. (Also, I love Elves. I play them in Standard, and I use Ezuri as my general in EDH.)
Since mana may be a problem now, I'm adding 2 Priest of Titania, replacing the 2 Sylvan Library. I also updated the sideboard.
What is with Kavu Predator and Invigorate???
It's a good card combo... and in SB: 4x Nature's Claim.
I just find it hard to find room for it. It's an amazing combo, but it tends to be better in Berserk-based builds that better make up for the life gain.
To reveal some spoiler from New Phyrexia, i lost my breath when i saw this one: Myr Superion. I don't understand how they can print such a card... I mean: T1 Llanowar Elves, T2 Quirion Ranger => two mana for this guy who see Goyfs from above. Not talking about Aether Vial...
It seems like something to test, but it feels like it could be inconsistent. First try 3 and lower or raise the count to see how it does.
i think superior is too much mana creature dependent to see play in stompy, i mean, spirit guide doesnt help him, you need at least drop half of the spirit guide for another mana producer, 4 llanowar, 4 ranger, 2 noble/birds, and dunno if you could run 4 superior.

or maybe 4 birds, 3 ranger, 3 llanowar....
Why would you run Birds? You have Fyndhorn Elves still. Also, I feel like 4 Ranger is necessary.
Thought Exercise to those who know this deck well:
If you guys had absolutely NO budget and absolutely NO metagame considerations and wanted to build the grossest version of this you could possibly build, what would you run?
I would also play fetches to thin lands even more. And I Know how people think that argument is false but this would be an exception because it could really make a difference when there are only 7 or 8 lands left in your library.
I also like to imagine that he has a rotating torso (like a metallic graft that fuses his upper and lower body together), so he can spin all around, leveling everything within 20ft of him to rubble.

I guess you could add Goyf.
I can't really think of anything else though.
I was just thinking about the fetches. The only problem is that it would eat Stifle hard. If you run Goyf, they would be needed, though.
I'm considering putting together a 10land deck as my next legacy pile. I like it a lot as it does some really unfair stuff in a fair way, and I think it has potential to break into the meta, all that really needs to happen is some crazy creature comes out for green in the next sets. Heres the list im thinking about right now:
I really think the disruption from orb will ruin a lot of decks, and that Vinelasher kudzu is severely under appreciated in a deck with 8 land bouncers. Scryb ranger is also going up in value in my eyes as mono blue has recently become a deck in a big way, along with fish.
Yeah, XLS is a very good rogue deck for legacy believe it or not. Sure, there is the argument of Land Grant being bad in Legacy, but I haven't had a problem yet.
What I'm seeing with your list is that you run a lot of 2CMC guys, when Stompy is build upon 1CMC guys with a few sitting at 2CMC. Consider cutting some cards like Talara's Battalion. I also find 4 Winter Orb to be too many, and 3 to be the perfect amount. I also don't quite like the Green Sun's Zenith here. You also aren't running any pump spells it seems?
Are there any other changes that would need to be made to accomodate/optomize this package?
Also considering tossing in Rishadan Port. Anyone tried this in concert w/Winter Orb or is it just overkill?...or just unworkable b/c it doesn't produce :symg:? Maybe the artifacts could help balance it out?
I'm also wondering about Gaea's Cradle here..anyone tried it?
port I could see causing issues. it is CRITICAL that you have the ability to always produce green and drop those beaters and keep on trucking. Same with cradle.
Stompy doesn't need to produce alot of mana as it chugs along with 1 ccers the entire time. It is truly a remarkable deck.
