Also, it is a cheap rare.

I would recommend using a mix of the mass removal Fio mentioned and the spot removal. For example: he drops a Ward Sliver naming red? Doom Blade it, then Firespout his board.

Also Engineered Plague, Caller of the Hunt, Circle of Solace, Conspiracy, Ego Erasure, Sudden Spoiling, Extinction(!!!), and Plague Sliver are all useful. Hope that helps

Humility will do the trick nicely (and relatively permanently unlike a board-wiper) though I gotta say, I rather like the 'judo' approach of Hivestone an awful lot. Much cheaper option too.

Portcullis is rather mean as well but it screws you too. Also cheap.

depends on what colors/deck you're playing. attacking with a taunting elf and then gaze of the gorgon on it is by far my favorite green way of dealing with it. a black/red deck full of spot removal like terminate/terror, etc. would probably give him fits. a white defensive soldiers deck with first strike and again, spot removal would likewise deal with it semi well, too. or, just outracing him, but not always easy, I know.

I really like An-Zerrin Ruins however, it will wreck his sliver deck.

No, seriously. Play removal. Unless your friend has Crystalline Sliver, Slivers are really, really easy to beat. Just keep killing them with spells until you have enough mana to play something big. Slivers usually don't run draw spells, and all the ones I play are focused on only attacking. If you keep them off the table, they can't attack.

I suggest running MBC. If you can't get Damnation, you can still get Mutilate, Tsabo's Decree (as Mr Cochese suggested), Crypt Rats, Echoing Decay, Tendrils of Corruption, and Corrupt. M10 also brings Doom Blade and Sign in Blood. Package this up with some solid creatures like Chittering Rats and Phyrexian Rager and a dash of graveyard recursion with Grim Harvest, and you're well on your way to a Sliver killing machine.

thats not an "unbeatable sliver deck" my friends sliver deck usually gets at many as 10-12 UNBLOCKABLE, 7/7 slivers, with protection from 3 colors...

and we still be him regularly...heres a few tricks

Mill him quickly, gets rid of his best slivers before he can use them.

build a early kill deck that kills him before he can get slivers,

Plague sliver is AWESOME, theres NOTHING he can do to stop it.

Use a card with the Venomability and give it lure to clear his field.

use "strategic bombing" aka using land destruction and creature destruction. kill his Gemhide slivers and what ever color mana he needs most, as they are the driving force behind most sliver decks.

The easiest, least expensive way to do this is to just run mass removal, things like Pyroclasm, Firespout, and Infest. This is especially useful because Sliver players often times will overextend and play every sliver they can as early and often as they can. Wipe off all his creatures with 1 card and not only have you gained excellent card advantage, but it's likely he has no cards left in his hand. It's very hard to come back from getting your board wiped when you're playing slivers.

Black/Red targetted removal (destroy effects, burn spells) also works well.

Also, fast aggro decks work well against sliver players. Sliver players typically do not block, especially at the beginning of the game. It's bad to lose slivers, especially in the beginning, even if it's a 1:1 tradeoff. Slivers really only work when there's more than a couple on the battlefield, so continually losing one or two a turn will mean he never gets his deck off the ground.

Wellwisher in an elf deck, she can win to you like 15 life per turn (if you manage to have at least 5 creatures out with 2 untappers among them ), so you'll probably ignore his attacks while you swarm the board.

Or you can Burn him down, before improving his beating, with a Burn.dec

Or run a discard deck...

Or run Elves/Gobbos/Merfolks/Soldiers/Ninjas...

there are tons of strategies to win vs it
Slivers is not the deck to beat.

Just for clarity, its my understanding that Milling will never be a good strategy unless you actually plan to mill your opponent's entire library. Sure, you might make them dump a bomb, but unless you're going to mill all 53 or so cards in their library, you're just as likely to make them dump a bunch of dead cards so that they draw their bomb. Let me know if I've misunderstood you, but you seem to be suggesting that a few mill cards in a non-mill strategy would help, which, without some other sort of deck-tampering, it won't

Essence sliver works quite nicely actually

As a sliver player my friends have quite a lot of anti-sliver hate. wing shards is really annoying. wrath of god is the best way. hive stone is annoying too but that can get removed.

I'd just use changelings and a bunch of mass removal.

Even Wrath can be ineffective if the sliver player has Frenetic Sliver or Hibernation Sliver. If the slivers don't have flying, you can try Molten Disaster.

Also I don't much recommend Hivestone or Changelings if he's playing Sliver Overlord.

Just run Grim Long

If he doesn't have Crystalline Slivers, run targetted removal, preferably outright creature kill as opposed to burn where possible (a couple Muscle Slivers and Sinew Slivers can take things out of Bolt/Inferno range with shocking speed).

Engineered Plague and its kin are amazing against such decks, and have the extra advantage of also being useful against just about any trible deck, such as elves and soldiers.

In a pinch, Pyroclasm, Infest and other such effects may cripple him if you get lucky, such as when he only has 2 or 3 2/2's on the board in the early game, but even late when he's up to 4/4's, a pair of cards to clear his board is still a good trade.

Most sliver decks also try to kill through combat damage. As such, fog effects can be pretty nasty against them. Cards like Moments Peace, Fog and Holy Day can leave him struggling to get damage through while you buy time to build your board position.

They also often use effects such as flight, protection or outright unblockability to get past defenders and attack en masse, so cards like Propaganda might slow him down enough to catch your breath.

Or just run cheap (that is to say, inexpensive to purchase) mass removal, like Oblivion Stone, which can be found on ebay for around $1 apiece.

Mass bounce like Evacuation can be helpful, but if he's running Gemhide and Haste slivers, it might not be much of a reprieve. Might be useful if he likes to generate plenty of tokens though.

Really want to mess with him fairly cheaply? Artifact creatures. Won't stop unblockable Slivers, but Ward Slivers are useless against them. However, if he's running Harmonic Slivers, don't bother with it, as they'll wreck you.



Only 20 land is indeed not necessarily ideal, but a whopping 16 creatures generate mana, and the majority of your deck only costs 2 anyway. Between the Retrievers and the Skeleton Shards you can pick up just about anything he can kill, and once a Storage Matrix hits the ground, he has to choose between attacking and putting out more Slivers, whereas nearly half your land still untaps if you choose Artifacts. Myr Matrix and Door of Destinies might not be nearly as good as some of his pump slivers, but they do start to beef up your side of the board nicely without risking pumping up his creatures as a Coat of Arms would.

If you wanted to run Oblivion Stones, I'd replace the Doors. The Myr Matrix's will survive the explosion, and you can immediately begin churning out tokens and using retriever deaths to potentially get a Servitor back in hand to drop next turn, and then bring the rest of its buddies back up with him.

It's not a perfect strategy, but depending on what he's playing it might give him a run for his money.

That said, I am the personal owner of my group's feared Sliver Deck, so I know the ire it can draw, and I wish you the best of luck.

This is the best deck I've seen for casual. I'd only make a couple of changes (take off the Blades, the Wand and the Ring for something to better recover from *** other than Patriarch's Bidding) but it's a great anti-tribal deck.

no i meant a mill deck that kills them with a mill, not just a few cards thrown in

Either make your own Sliver deck, or make a Tribal deck consisting mostly of changelings. Mass removal is good too.
