Both online and in real life, new players and spikes, everyone seems to forget that.
I don't know how many times I've had people block her looking to trade only to ask "Are you going to put her in the yard?" to which I kindly tap the card and tell them they just made a terrible mistake.
I can't really count on it happening, but for supposedly competitive players this kind of oversight seems crazy, and it happens a LOT.
i have never seen people make bad blocks or attacks due to thalia's first strike on modo which is where i play exclusively. not saying it doesn't happen there, just saying i've never seen it and i've played a fair bit of thalia.
I've seen it happen once or twice and that once or twice was me doing it. If you're playing people that do it that often you should play better opponents.
It does happen with hilarious consistency. People fixate on the Non-creature spells bit and forget she's a formidable little beater, as well. All the better for the people who run her, I say. My opponents' oversights is my gg.
I always think of her as a 2/1 first strike first and foremost and can't say I've ever forgotten about that. In fact if anything I might forget about her other ability (though luckily playing online I'm quickly reminded by MTGO when my Pillar of Flames now want an additional mana).

Most people I've noticed seem to think of her as a 2/1 enchantment that just sits there
I guess the moral of the story is, always read the cards.
People fixate on the important details or what they deem important. Not just in magic but in life in general. Thalia is a 2/1 that affects non-creature spells all the time but her first strike only matters in combat if she's blocked or blocks and then only if the first strike matters.
I've been messing around with a BUG zombie list on cockatrice that runs Diregraf Captain. Folks seem to never remember they have deathtouch.

"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that justifies it." Frederic Bastiat
the thing that i see forgotten the most is the ash zealot flashback punisher... people really forget about that.
Indeed. My opponent had 2 Ash Zealots out and proceeded to flash back his Devil's Play, 6ing himself, and died to my crack back. In a 2 man tournament no less.
I'm guilty of forgetting just about all of these. Last week I completely forgot that you could sac non-humans to Falkenrath Aristocrat, despite having played with the card for ages, and having been well aware of its text.
Another one that hasn't been mentioned is Blood Artist. Can't tell you how many players forget what he does, or forget that he's on the board prior to a board wipe or something.

I once had an opponent who thought it only triggered on flashback, and got into a bit of a sour mood after Bolting himself with a Gravecrawler.
I guess its just that some cards have a second mode of play that seems insignificant compared to the first.
For example, Thalia is played for her tax ability, not for her combat potential, that doesn't mean she can't swing though. Especially funny when Rancored.
While these might seem silly to experienced players, they really are simply errors of biology.
We're designed to process small bits of information at a time. This is why when we're presented with large amounts of information at any given time, we chunk it. Our phone numbers are really three items we ultimately remember, and we've become adept at remembering others...sometimes even the numbers of strangers because we're not thinking about a random series of 10 numbers...we're thinking about the three items; area code-first three-last four.
The point? If a creature has an ability that has a significant impact on the board...as Thalia does against control and combo decks....combat abilities are secondary, and more likely to be ignored, or easily forgotten. Same thing with Phyrexian Crusader. Pro-red on a black creature with infect is so abnormal it's almost hard to believe...to the point that we don't believe it in practice.
Sometimes psychology has nothing to do with it though. Multiple EDH group games do I knab a card out of my graveyard with Eternal Witness in play despite the presence of Torpor Orb across the table.

The pro-red part is the one that has gotten me some funny please.
"I Slagstorm the field to clean the field. Your crusader goes to the GY?"
"Uhhh... no? :D"
Knight of Infamy and Knight of Glory get some nice nods too. Being able to dodge some nasty stuff like Orzhov Charm (both of them) Tragic Slip, Abrupt Decay (Glory) or swinging past Boros Recokoner and Resto Angel (Infamy).
