I think Infect as a deck picked up a few potent weapons in the new set, and is now going to be able to become a winning deck. Here's my list that I'm going to try:
Plague Myr-Great play on turn one if it leads to a turn two Vatmother or Hand of the Praetors. Hand also makes him a decent two mana guy later on.
Plague Stinger-Best play on two mana if you can't produce a turn two Vatmother or Hand. Evasion is important in a deck like Infect.
Ichor Rats-The ability to get a free poison counter by resolving this guy makes him a great card for Infect.
Phyrexian Crusader-Protection from two colors and first strike on one Infect creature finally gives Infect the ability to play defense if the need arises, while at the same time being an offensive all-star.
Septic Rats-Quite possibly one of the better turn three plays you can perform, especially if you can follow it up with turn four Ichor Rats or if you can beat with a turn two infector on turn three.
Phyrexian Vatmother-The only question I am left with in reguards to this guy is what the correct number is to play in a deck. I'm trying two to see if that's correct. He's an absolute monster versus control, and can help outspeed combo.
Hand of the Praetors-This is to Infect as Knight Exemplar is to Mono-W Knights. Glorious Anthem effects are welcome in this deck.
Skittles-Here for the games where I want a big, nasty, flying finisher. If testing proves Vatmother to be as insane as I hope it is, this may come out for that.
Grasp of Darkness and Virulent Wound are for aggro, Inquisition of Kozilek helps fight control and combo, and Morbid Plunder can give you game against decks that pack tons of removal, such as mono red, however, Corpse Cur might be a better choice. What are people's thoughts?

So I obliged him with a nice big target to replicate in the form of thornling. True to form he untaps, draws, plays a land, and kicks the rite targeting the thornling.
So I untap, draw, make the thornling indestrutible, and then maelstrom pulse it.
Mono Black Infect is going to be a deck in the new meta of this i'm sure. I honestly disliked the Infect keyword before MBS but after looking at the power relative to the curve of mono black infect it looks VERY solid. It's essentially a Suicide Black deck curving out at 5 that only has to deal 10 damage. Did i mention the 5 drop is essentially a 8/4 hasting regenerating flyer and the 4 drop is Juzam Djinn on Crystal Meth and Steroids(Phyrexian Vatmother). All 30 creatures serve double duty as Withering removal and enjoy a lord who accounting for poision reads your team gets +2/+2 and Shock when cast!!! The rest of your crew fall in with evasion, protection, first strike, pump, and even ramp (Plague Myr is actually really nice here boys don't discount him off the bat for being a generic "mana myr" in tribal no less!). The best targeted discard and the best instant removal in standard make up the non-creature suite as a respective 4x set. And last but not least the card that takes this deck to the next level IMO Blinkmoth Nexus as a 4x of with 18 swamps rounding out the land. Might take it to 23 to support 3of Skittles.
A lot of the infect creatures being run in other MonoB decks i found to be lackluster ie: FlensermiteIchor Rats and even Flesh Eater Imp when considering what they're vying for cmc wise. Plague Myr serves a specific purpose black decks rarely have...mana dorks (2/2 ones no less!), Ichorclaw Myr is an excellent aggressive 2 drop and everything else are simply the most effective creatures at their cost. And the Inkmoths!!!! my god they're amazing!
Aside from a consistant CA engine this deck has everything it needs to be a great aggro deck. Can't wait to sleeve it up next week and rock out with an infect deck that belongs at the big kids table LOL.
Sideboard was seriously thrown together so feel free to shout out anything that looks solid...

Septic Rats is definitely better at the 3 spot than Ichor IMO. It's going to come into play as a 3/3 99% of the time which is much better than an Arc Trail target that coughs up a poison counter. Ichor Rats isn't bad, it's just not the right choice. I'm sleeving up the deck today and hope to have some testing done on Wednesday. I need to see if 22 land and 4 dorks can support 3 Skittles or if i should drop one in favor of Hand of the Praetors #4. Im almost always gonna want to play the haste mana on skittles and getting to 6 mana might not be consistent enough to see a second Dragon most games.

Septic Rats will never come into play as a 3/3 without Hand of the Praetors in play. It has a "When Septic Rats attacks" trigger on the p/t pump.

This is the list I have been testing. The results are good so far. I will probably give it a go at my FNM on Friday. Hand of the Praetors looks good, but I have been very disappointed with it in action. Vatmother is a BEAST. You will play out your hand quickly so you will need some draw with Sign in Blood and Infiltration Lens, which is perfect in this deck. I would run a mix of both GftT and Doom Blade. It's safer than going with strictly one or the other. Disfigure can be kept in board unless there a lot of Signal Goblins/Boros in your meta. Mimic Vat + Vatmother is a game winner almost every time it sticks.
Why is nobody using Tectonic Edge? Seems like an auto 4-of in a mono-colored deck to punish greedy manabases, defend against manlands, etc.

Also has anyone else fealt like turn 1 inkmoth into a signal pest is really good? you can either go turn 2 swing for 2 in the air, play a myr, play a stinger, or a livewire lash. If the myr was played you can get that turn three vat mother and or hand if you like. I really really really like signal pest in this deck. Please try it and let me know what you think. 8 colorless lands in a mono black deck is a baaad idea. Black is color intensive. Plus your opponent shouldn't be alive long enough for his non-basics to matter and you damn sure don't want to loose tempo by sacing a land in an aggro deck.
I think maybe some of you are trying to build some sort of Midrangy Control Infect deck. I think the strongest chance for infect to succeed is going to be an aggro strategy. Things like Mimic Vat and Tech Edge will only slow the deck down. We will never be able to out control the control decks. Drop guys. Go Sideways. Win. You only have to get in there for 10, so do it and get out. Trying to get cute is only giving your opponent more time to stabilize.

heres something i've been thinking about, guess its the best i could upgrade from the initial idea i had, (evolved my B/G infect into a pure black, thats y im here :B)
grim discovery is tech, recover an inkmoth nexus lost in battle or a tectonic edge plus any creature is nice card advantage, not mentioning marsh flats, which are also a good target for the grim discovery to return to ur hand.
Phyrexian crusader alongside with the body and mind sword is something hard to fight off..thast for sure, just targetable by black spells...tahts kinda generic to engage most decks and take the edge on the game.
22 lands is enough i suppose, tried to make its cost the lower possible, with no dragon nor too much 4 mana costed cards..
so, guess it fits the "suicidal" theme, since the original "suicide black" was half "take whatever resource possible to win" and another half "do it as fast as u can".. that with a little more consistency i hope.
comments or ideas to improve would be appreciated.
edit: btw, sideboard would be running the controllish cards AKA duress, IoK, etc. .. to keep the maindeck with the aggro i need, and if needed, change the paradigm of the deck a little and make it durable for long lasting games too..
@cescobar:
Seems good, dunno about Piston Sledge though. 3 for +3/1 is good, but to re-equip you have to sacrifice either an animated Inkmoth Nexus(No), Plague Myr(Maybe), Adventuring Gear(Not unless you're in topdeck mode), or your other copy of Piston Sledge. I would probably run more removal over the sledges. That being said, I love the inclusion of adventuring gear and fetchlands! It seems like a really good idea.
The nut draws generally consist of Inkmoth Nexus, Swamp, Signal Pest, Plague Stinger, Piston Sledge, Ichor Wellspring, and some removal. Swinging for 5 infect on turn 3, without overextending or dumping my hand is pretty ridiculous! 3 spells for a possible turn 4 kill is pretty darn good.
Also, the interaction between Piston Sledge, Ichor Wellspring, Throne of Geth, and Inkmoth Nexus is really solid as well. The Wellspring not only gives us card advantage, but it is also re-equip fodder, or Proliferate fodder if the game goes longer. And Piston Sledge and Throne of Geth can be sacrificed to each other depending on the situation. Even Inkmoth Nexus can be sacrificed if it comes down to the wire.
Changes I'm planning to test:
+1 Signal Pest
-1 Phyrexian Vatmother
+1 Piston Sledge
-1 Throne of Geth
Hands to keep:
Plague Stinger with any combination of the following:
Signal Pest
Piston Sledge
Ichorclaw Myr
Inkmoth Nexus
Phyrexian Crusader
2 land keeps are what I strive for with this deck. I'm going to do the math, but I might even drop to 22 lands in the deck, because with the card draw, I can sometimes flood.
