The Planeswalker deck is viable because planeswalkers are harder to deal with then creatures, and most decks run very little answers for the card type.
Not to mention if they go unanswered they can be devastating.
You are paying 5 mana for a permanent with options to help maintain control and help you stabilize.
He also combos nicely with dragonmaster outcast. I got bombarded by sarkan and dragonmaster in my brothers b/r deck the other day. Not sure if the outcast fits this deck but its an idea to make sarkan better.
I like her for that very reason, she fetches Bolas or whatever you may need at the time. She also brings those creatures back that you have been killing the entire game.
I am really against Sorin in this deck. Chandra is the one who should be shooting things, Sorin is just asking for you to over extend.
Yes and no.
-Sorrin is annyoing enough to merit a U Counter, thats a counter down for Cruel/Bolas
-You probally tap out, then they play their bomb dang that sucks so this is true
-You dont need to use on creatures he alone can be worth the lifegain
-His second ability is very useful to put them in quake/sphinx/cruel/burn/manland danger range
I just threw him in a) because i have him b) he fits the theme
I probally need some walls too...i cut my only two creatures for spells. Clearly walls save your PW's so lets think about what walls to use.
Unfortunally not many good walls. Wall of Bone (which i love) folds to White removal/Terrminate. All the other walls fold to removal but this isnt a bad thing. It saves manlands/fats from removal they wasted on creatures that do no damage. Calcite Snapper is very good. Any other ideas how to protect PW with creature considering we deny ourselves Wall of Omen/Reverence/Wall of Denial?
Given up magic because a)its a waste of money b)it sucks the joy out of life c)im doing more interesting things than tapping pieces of plastic that have no intrinsic value.
I encourage you to do the same. Instead of FNM try Friday Night Something Spontaneous. Instead of thousands of hours and dollars on plastic imagine it with a significant other or friends sharing something meaningful. I randomly typed a new password, so bon voyage itches i encourage you to follow suit! Cheers

I am noticing I only really need the Draw, if I am in a tight spot I will use his -2, but I usually have Liliana down and tutor for a card then use Sarkhan to grab the card.

There seems to be a lot of consensus for Liliana Vess. I am gonna work her into the deck as a 1/1 Split with Sorin.
She can Tutor and her Ultimate is legitimently threatening. The lady is going in!
@scionofdarkness: I ended up dropping the Dread Drones for Lightning Bolts to stave off early beats.
She is nuts, i dont know why she isnt in more decks. In Grixis tutor cruel turn 6, jace it into your hand. Play it then next turn and force them to discard with Lilian they can never regain momentum. At least thats what i do! Never underestimate *discard one card*, and shes a friggin tutor.

Hes black and fits the theme.?..okaY besdies asthetics... so what else...
Well...
- Hes late game but not the final plan
- Comes in at high loyalty if you use his first ability he has staying power, he paints a big fat target on himself (a distraction) and or can slowly chip away at a player if they go after chandra/jace/bolas instead
- He merits a counter of some sort. In casting him you gauge what they have in their hand. Tapping out looks impressive, it looks like this is your final plan, it makes it worth a counter No one seriously expects Bolas and no one is going to hold onto a counter for him at least the first time around, so at worst Sorrin eats a counter at best he resovles and you can asume that they are weak
- He is late game lifegain vrs arggro/rdw/coup
- He pings walkers too. Making Chandra/Bolas/Sorrin plansewalkers that kill other plansewalkers. Combined with a minium x4 bolt x3 quake you we ways to deal with other walkers without loosing slots in your main deck, nor do you lose any loyalty counters when you do it. U/W has what? Oring/counter spells? Ours can be turned to kill creatures/players too and we still have negates and into the roil!
- Can put opp. close into lethal spell range
Cons
-Im not worried about the tripple black, im worried about his overall cost, you will probally tap out, you might loose or be in a worse sitution from doing so
-Although annoying he doesnt have a huge impact by himself like bolas/elspeth/chandra do, its annoying to loose life/weenies but not game breaking
- His ultimate isnt so good
To me pros outweight the cons, certainlly in non control matchups, he fits the theme and hes cool
But it also depends on your propsed build and what you might need to cut to get trip black/6 cmc walker into play

His second ability. Puts people people into murder range from earthquake/cruel/sphinx/manland or any combination. Generally used turn 6 to set up a turn 7 or 8 win.
Plus all that damned life baneslayer gives people can be a big pain for this deck if they managed to get one to stick while you have no answer.
Ive never ever used his ultimate and its pretty pfft useless to me. Use him for his second ability, test him out, you wont be dissapointed.
He wrecks your constancy. The idea is to stabilize before turn 6 if possible. Once you are stable you can maintain control and do your thing.

"Fun fact about me: I home brew my buddies meta deck. He went from having a much lower ranking then me to a significantly higher rating since I started doing this."
Yeah we spend most of our early turns either laying defense or zapping creatures/drawing cards, and not really doing any damage.
It depends on your list I suppose, but I find its a LOT easier to burn through 10 life for the win then it is 20. And he can help stabilize with the lifegain afterwards.
He added consistency for me, as in winning the game 2 turns earlier. What better turn 6 move do we have for offense beside dropping their life to 10?
I cant imagine the deck working nearly as well without him.
He wrecks your constancy. The idea is to stabilize before turn 6 if possible. Once you are stable you can maintain control and do your thing.
This is agree with...hmmm but as a one of he shouldn't be to problamtic, to me hes just another walker (ie. annoying hard to remove card that does good stuff)

The thing is that the deck needs a low drop x/4 staller, to stop Jund from bashing, and RDW from bolting. Wall of Omen is awesome because it has this characteristics, only costs two and replaces itself.
Mnemonic wall can be good, but it costs five, and by that time you will probablly be buried deep down AiR decks. So, seeing there's no obvious equivalent to WoO,the options are
Wall of Bone - No Shroud, but regeneration, so it still dies to Terminate and White Exile. Medium mana comitment cost.
Reinforced Bulwark - No shroud, no regeneration, folds to anything, but a nearly relevant ability and the easiest casting cost kinda almost nearly makes up for it.
Calcite Snapper - Convertible Turtle. Shall I say more? Also 1UU by turn 3 might be a pain.

The reason you run Sorin is because he is relevant against important archtypes in an immediate way. People are forgetting that his + ability can be used to hit opposing planeswalkers. This is huge against Super Friends. He outclasses Ajani V in terms of planeswalker nuking. And if they don't find a way to deal with him right away, his ultimate WRECKS them. You can use their amazing planeswalkers to kill each other. Huge game swing.
Against Jund, Sorin kills Bloodbraid, Siege-gang, Ruinblaster, and now Geopede if they don't have a fetch.
Admittedly, against Mythic he is slow, but he does kill manadorks and gives you life back to stabilize. His - ability can help if they've gained an abundance of life; but if you live to 6 mana you're probably in decent shape and need to spend the mana on something else.
Against Aggro he can kill their important weenies and provide some life and distraction. I actually don't like him for his - ability, although on occasion it is worth using. Our win conditions (Bolas, Chandra, etc) don't really care that they have 40+ life because we're controlling the board, so it doesn't matter what they do or how much life they have because we have inevitability.
I like the idea of the hatching haha nice early blocker 0/4 isn't bad.
I would maybe try more Lilianas then Bolas because you can fetch for bolas using her.

Interesting deck type. God knows I love to shout out Super friends or Gladiators whenever someone gives me a chance. I'll have to build a grixis planeswalker deck just for the fun of screaming LEGION OF DOOM inside my local shop.

x/4 is pretty slim pickings. Arrogant Bloodloord is a pretty healthy defensive creature if RDW is your problem. Pretty useless vs control though. Setting up double B for Lilana or Sorin seems pretty awesome though. Still, not very impressive.
Sea Gate Oracle is another low CMC guy to drop. Hes in bolt range, but he replaces himself so hes not as useless vs other match ups.Halimar Wavewatch is a 0/3 t2 drop that gets a nice boost if she sticks until the next turn.

Yes, this is one of my main reasons for developing a deck similar to this. I just want to annoy everyone who plays Superfriends by going, "Meanwhile at the Legion of Doom..." after all of their turns.
I'm short on cards in this build and I'm still unsure as to the right land total as well so advice on both would be great.
That has me at 30 cards in the main deck. The easiest solution is to drop 4 Vampire Hexmages in and call it a day but I don't know if that's the right answer or not. I've only got one Jace, the Mind Sculptor but I don't really want to use him. I'm thinking I'll need card draw so Treasure Hunt or See Beyond could be reasonable or even Spreading Seas if I make a bigger commitment to blue. Or even Chandra Ablaze as a one-of and something else to fill out the deck.
And just so you know before telling me to get more Jace, this deck is most likely going to be a joke deck just to screw around with. I've already got all of these cards and would prefer to not have to go looking for things to add into it.
I was just thinking to myself last night how awesome would it be to see a Grixis Planeswalker deck and than I saw this and went
I'm thinking the deck has to play controlling a bit as most of our Walkers cost 5-8 mana. Below is the decklist I'm about to test out and give a try because this is a pretty niffty idea going on here.
I think we should also have other finishers, at least as options. Nicol Bolas, whilst devastating, It's expensive and fragile. ORings are my main concern, and in BRU we have no enchantment hate (wich I found, hurts against WU control and 'Pals).
So other options I found are:
Thraximundar, depending on the MU can be as or even more devastating than Bolas. Inkwell Leviathan, expensive, but wrecking against WU control and 'Pals
The good 'ole Sphinx of Jwar Isle, cheap, effective, evasive, and with a little extra value in the form of card-peeking.
and also Haunting Echoes, wich I think it's underrated and underused but it's a back-breaking game-scooping card if resolved correctly. What? You counter a few of my spells? Drop some of your best creatures? Some of your walkers ultimate me? Haunting echoes, exiling all counterspells, BBEs, Juras, and the souch from a deck.
Note that with any of the two last cards, SoJI or the Echoes, we can cut the Chalices, wich I think are here only to keep the Nicol Bolas, Planeswaler dream alive (not that I think that's a bad thing).
I'm trying out the Snapper by now.
PS: I don't mean to be a jerk, but, If you are going to suggest a finisher, keep in mind the essential property of finishers: They finish games. So please don't suggest expensive, ineffective, cards souch as Malfegor, Xathrid Demon, or Blood Tyrant.
Glad to see people are so interested in this deck.
I think Grixis Walkers needs to focus more on how it maintains control.
We know that Superfriends does this
- Wins off Beats.
- Maintains board control via sweepers.
- Gains card advantage over draw.
So far I am experimenting with the following
- Win off direct damage
- Maintain board control via spot removal
- Gain card advantage over discard
I feel Grixis is more of a direct control as in it needs to aggressively maintain control by forcing the opponent to answer them to allow you to set up and stabilize.
Sedraxis Specter is a nice candidate to replace WoE. It allows us to gain card advantage, and block if we need to. Specter can essentially be another 4x of blightning when it is unearthed. Your draw engines could be:
Sarkhan the Mad - He also can blow up your unearthed specter for a more permanent creature.
Liliana Vess - She tutors for whatever you need.
Jace 2.0 - Brainstorms when you need to dig up an answer.
Jace 1.0 - Standard Draw.
I personally like the deck having a more B/R control approach splashing blue. Alternatively you could go a U/B route and splash red for smaller things.

While i love the specter, i do think snapper is a better fit for now. He blocks many threats and lives, only dies to sweepers and saccers, and can take down opposing walkers quite handily. Plus, as everyone and their dog is playing seas now, he's also easier to cast.

Yes. I do love retro-8bit aesthetics.
UB - Tezzerator 2.0 - UB
8-3-0

"Fun fact about me: I home brew my buddies meta deck. He went from having a much lower ranking then me to a significantly higher rating since I started doing this."
