I just built this deck, and I'm planning on taking it to FNM. I've been doing some testing and have made a few observations.
1.) I always seem to want to play Nettle Sentinel turn 1 if I have it (over Llanowar Elves or Heritage Druid). Is this the right move?
2.) Turn 2 I would prefer to play Heritage Druid and another 1 drop to get 3 elves on the board, but Bramblewood Paragon seems to be second choice (over Vanquisher or Wolf-Skull Shaman - which I'm running as a 3 of knowing full well it's not part of the typical build).
3.) Is 3 Overruns the right number; I don't seem to be getting it as often as I'd like, but I'm definitely afraid to run it as a 4 of.
4.) Sideboard: Guttural Response comes in from the side against Fae and Merfolk for Overrun, pump effects, etc... Vigor comes in vs. RDW, Ramp, other Aggro - including the mirror - for Overrun. Grip comes in vs. Lark, maybe Fae? Obviously, Squall Line comes in against Fae.
So am I right, wrong, partially right/wrong, etc..? Any other important info on the playing of the deck I MUST know before taking it into the fire would be greatly appreciated.
1-2. It really depends on your hand and what you're playing, sometimes it's better to set up with a turn 1 Llanowar Elves. I've also noticed that I not too terribly fond of Heritage Druid as turn 1 drop, mainly because it doesn't really do anything for me immediately on it's own. I try to hold it back until I have 2 elves, and can immediately tap the Heritage Druid for mana. Bramblewood Paragon is probably the best turn two drop because it greatly increases the power of your creatures and Imperious Perfect/Wren's Run Vanquisher/Gilt-Leaf Ambush a lot less fragile. This is especially pertinent against Firespout/Sulfurous Blast because the extra boost + lord effects help keep more of your creatures alive.
3. 4 Overruns is overkill, 3 might even be pushing it because most of the times I've been able to cast it, I've had use Heritage Druid + 2 lands, which somewhat reduces the overall effectiveness by having less creatures to attack with.
4. As someone pointed earlier to me sometime ago, Gutteral Response counters Cryptic Command and Fae. I've learned that countering their Ancestral Visions gives you a huge boost in tempo, especially when your creatures are much larger then theirs. Faerie Macabre is used against Lark, depending on how much of a showing it has in your area. Vigor has quite a few uses and a big body. Krosan Grip is mainly used against Aussie Assault. I'm still torn on how effective it is against Bitterblossoms because I have lost games because a 3rd Krosan Grip killed their Bitterblossom, but I was unable to deal the last few points of damage to kill them, whereas I would have won if I let the Bitterblossom drain their life.

1. Yes, I believe nettle sentinel is always the correct first turn play if you have it. I can rarely imagine when you'd rather play a llanowar elves, since I've found that powering out a turn 2 imperious Perfect or Gaea's anthem is comparatively worse than dealing 2 damage (The only time you should do so is when you have a Sentinel out, another 1 drop, and a heritage druid. Then I play an anthem effect and swing for 3). I always play those cards turn 3 or later to pump other attacking creatures
2. You've got it right pretty much, but a lot of the time I find myself just wanting to pressure out as much damage as can, playing like zoo with a 2/2 followed by a 3/3.
3. You don't want to be stuck on an overrun without enough mana, it sucks and it's not always useful, especially when you have 1-2 creatures on board.
4. Yep. When vigor hit's it's pretty much an auto-win, but at the same time he doesn't always hit. I'm thinking about putting faerie macabre in his place to help against the swans matchup, because it sucks a little right now.
4. As someone pointed earlier to me sometime ago, Gutteral Response counters Cryptic Command and Fae. I've learned that countering their Ancestral Visions gives you a huge boost in tempo, especially when your creatures are much larger then theirs.
If you are countering Ancestral Visions with Guttural Response, you're doing something illegal. GR counters blue *instants* only. Not faeries, not blue sorceries... only instants. Yes, that's great against Cryptic and Rune Snag and whatnot, but it's not going to stop AV.

Lawl. Yeah, I would rarely use it on AV and faeries anyway. It's a reactive card and as much as I hate to play reactive cards in decks like these, this works. Mainly because it allows you to keep the game in your favor against cryptic command.
I just did the stats on it, and 8 black sources should be enough, though it almost feels like pushing it. I'm gonna do testing when I get back home or something, but I'm thinking it'd be great. (at least in my meta vs. Merfolk and faeries and swans)

I don't know, splashing black for the sole purpose of Sudden Death? It seems if you wanted black, you might as well go the G/B route. The beauty of this deck is being able to outrace most decks in this format without a control-esque (yeah, it's a word...) aspect. Let me know how playtesting goes though, I am definitely curious.

I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity and boycotting overpriced singles. Sig this to join the cause for a more affordable Magic the Gathering.

Well, it's in the sideboard for one.
Secondly, it solves many problems. Such as any number of problem creatures against aggro, can hit lords against mid-range decks such as faeries and merfolk without a fear of counterspells, and totally helps the swans match-up as well. I mean, swans is really just a crapshot for us, whomever gets the better hand wins. Also, I have to deal with mistbind clique vs. faeries, and that sucks.
I like guttural response better because they don't expect it, and thus can't react to it as well. Plus, it can stop cryptic command from tapping your creatures, and that can mean the difference between a win and a loss.
here's another idea thats a little ridiculous, has anyone tried Wilt-leaf Cavaliers? i mean a 3/4 on turn two is possible. it can be a beatstick if a bramblewood or perfect was in play when you played it,in fact, if bramblewood was in play, you have an anthem and a perfect down, its a 6/7 with trample.
He is not a Warrior, so he doesn't get the Paragon's bonus. Also, I'd usually rather have a couple 4/4 tokens or another lord. He is definitely not bad, though. Maybe if you expect to face RDW a lot.
thats right. good old regular forests. Im not running Gaea's Anthem because I dont expect to see any tourney play till post rotation. Im trying to get my hands on talara's battalion , but its decent at best and dead card at worst, so im not shelling out 7- 12 bucks per.
FNM Rundown:
This was my first with Elf-Ball, went 3 win, 2 loss (1 in top four match) in a group of 17 people. Meta consisted mostly of B/G Elves, 3 Mirrormaster, 2-3 U/W Merfolk, 1-2 B/U Faeries, couple of red decks, Lark, few others. Losing top four was a bit disappointing, but overall I'm happy with the result.
Match 1: 2-1 agianst good Mirrormaster. I was just faster and had more guys in most cases. The 1 game he won was do to flyers.
Match 2: 2-0 against classic B/U Faeries. Game 1 he held me off for a while, but little threats took the game for me. Game 2 he was clicking a little better, when he stole my Perfect and dropped Mistbind in my upkeep championing a BB token he thought I was in trouble, but I overran ftw.
Match 3: 1-2 against U/W control, running Tef, Wrath, Sower, Cryptic, lots of counter magic (a pretty good deck). Game 1 I was too fast. Game 2 I didn't go so fast, and after delaying me alot and stealing some of my guys his Sowers (I HATE SOWERS!) and my guys ended up killing me. Game 3 samme as 2.
Match 4: 2-0 against Mirrormaster. This guy didn't play his deck quite as well as the first guy, and I once again proved too fast. Note: I didn't bother siding in Vigor (or anything) in either Mirrormaster match.
I made top 4 with first Mirrormaster guy, third round guy running U/W control, and Lark.
Match: 0-2 against Lark. Game 1 he goes first, I go fast. I had him dead on my turn 4, BUT he has to go and wrath me on his turn 4, grrr. Game 2 I'm not so fast, he holds me off with blinking Riftwatchers until he can play Wrath. I play a few more turns in vain, but eventually lose to the combo. Oh well, this is not one of our best MUs in my opinion.

@Kman, sorry I thought "mirrormaster" was widely known as W(U/W) Kithkin employing Mirrorweave & co. - maybe that's just what it's called in my area though.
Because I only lost to control/combo I'm thinking of making the knee-jerk reaction of removing Vigor from the side in favor of something that would help in what I deem to be a difficult MU.

I'm taking out Vigor for sudden death. I see a lot of faeries, merfolk, and swans and it's good against all of them. Vigor is slow even in this deck. Your best bet is to get out a vanquisher after a paragon, or with a Gaea's anthem out.
I don't like Elvish Promenade for obvious reasons.
I pulled a door of destinies and talked to some people at FNM about it, they said it was too slow and I agreed, but then they said that I SHOULD run Garruk Wildspeaker...
I kind of want to.
The suggestion was to take out hunting triad and put in some garruk, 2-3 would be plenty. I mean... Turn 4 Garruk, play vanquisher, turn 5 Overrun + Garruk's Ability ftw? And I'm wanting to up my Ambush count, instant speed is awesome, so is costing 1 less, even if I miss an elf.

You're suggesting run both Overrun and Garruk? Isn't that a bit of overkill? I can't see taking Hunting Triad, it's an insanely versatile card and is useful in so many different situations. No matter what you're taking out and adding in for Garruk, it seems like you would be knocking the deck's efficiency and speed down a notch.

Overkill or not you're still killing.
Garruk doesn't JUST overrun though. And I find myself siding out triad more and more.
Nationals qualifier was kinda going great up until the end... i went 4-1 and decided to play the final match, as drawing would probably not have gotten me in the top 8, so i had to win the last one...
which i didn't
it turned out to be a pyromancer's swath/empty the warrens storm combo deck...
i got him down to 5 lives first game, then he went of for 20 goblin tokens... i drew overrun, but came up 1 mana short so he went for my throat...
second game was much like the first, lost to a lot of tokens, more than i had, never saw hunting triad or heritage druid..
tough luck ended up placing tenth out of the ~40 people there...
played G/b elves lost 2-0
Then U/B rogues won 2-1 went off twice he just scooped with just an oona's prowler on the board to my 12 2/2 elf tokens...
Next was RDW splashing green for goyf... rather easy for me as he didn't take out my heritage first game and mulled to 4 the last game...
Up next was fairies, i was down to 6 and he had a lot of fairies hungry for the kill...
i play squall line for 4, killing all his fairies and letting 1 scion of oona come back from under mistbind clique..
i attack, leave 1 vanquisher to block his mutavault and he EOT slaughter pacts my vanquisher... only to find out he can't pay for it having only 4 river of tears out... lucky win for me, did 2-1.
Then a pure RDW deck, my opening hand is 2x llanowar elves, 3x heritage druid and 2 forest on the draw... i keep
i play llanowar, go, llanowar, heritage go..
he burns heritage, i play the second one, and tap for gaea's anthem..
he burns the second one, i play nr 3 and tap for gaea's anthem + imperious perfect.
next turn another imperious and i start swinging with 5/5 llanowars and heritage
win 2-1.. .
so i think i have proven elf-ball competitive again.... just a little tough luck for me i guess in the end..
How'd you lose against GB elves? I find that to be a really good match-up...
hey, i was just wondering, if you don't have 4x anthem to run in this deck, will it affect the performance by a LOT?
Well, Coat of Arms fits the deck better anyway, since you only need one to have your minions out of Firespout range, not to mention that it makes your elves even bigger then theirs could possibly be.

In my dream, the world had suffered a terrible disaster. A black haze shut out the sun, and the darkness was alive with the moans and screams of wounded people. Suddenly, a small light glowed. A candle flickered into life, symbol of hope for millions. A single tiny candle, shining in the ugly dark. I laughed and blew it out.
Many thanks to HotP Studios. Special thanks to DNC for this great sig.
i was asking that question because i don't have any anthem and i don't have any coat of arms either... i wanna ask, is the point of anthem just to make your creatures able to live firesprout or is the point to add more damage when you attack? or possibly both... like i have an elf ball deck, but i dont have any anthems, im asking to see if i need to order some.

Idk, I don't like it. Might as well use Snakeform IMO, but we can easily splash black for terror or eyeblight's ending, maybe Sudden Death, which would be better but IDK if 8 B sources could cover it, and I don't want to add Urborg, tomb of Yawgmoth or anything other than Gilt-Leaf palace and Llanowar Wastes to muck up the manabase.
