What do you guys think is the Best Deck in standard right now? I figure this will be fun for arguing about your favorite decks and it'll also be good for people to get a quick glimpse of what is really popular in tournaments right now.
GB Elves <-man I hate this deck, it has a 50/50 matchup against Tier 1/2 but loses to jank aggro most of the time. UB Faeries <-only reason it's good is because of all those people that's still playing 5CC. WB Tokens <-so boring, there's only 2 ways to play this deck. RB Blightning <-Autopilotting you to victory 0-2 drop.
???B Super Secret Tech <-dude, this thing is nuts! 90/10 against all matchups.
Right now the top 3 have a rock-paper-scissors effect. QnT beats Kithkin, Kithkin beat Fae and Fae beat QnT (generally speaking). There's always going to be different versions of different decks played by people of different play skill.
With that said, I think fae is still the most consistent and potent deck in standard but it also has a tough time against RDW and Kithkin which are probably the 2 most recently popular decks around.
But isn't "The Best Deck" the deck you enjoy playing the most and have the most success with because your having fun?
I mean seriously you could be playing Faeries and lossing because your bored of the deck and your not having fun anymore and therefore making bad plays or sloppy deck handling. But from years of playing this game I have found that I play best when I am enjoying myself.

I find Faeries pretty boring to play, honestly, and the only time I'm really exhilarated is during the mirror. Still, I think it's the best deck and by far the most powerful. If someone asked what was the best deck, hands-down, it wouldn't be the one that you enjoy playing the most. I mean, YOU may have fun playing deck X (and, by your logic, the deck you are best with), but deck Y might be the best deck overall and therefore better to say when asked this question.
Faeries is the best deck (and Kithkin, obviously), but UW Merfolk is probably the best meta choice.

While I agree with your Rock-Paper-Scissors, I think the matchups are closer than many people think.
@Shin - The problem I have with UW Merfolk is that it gets destroyed by DDW. Also Fae is a closer matchup than one might think. I don't think BFT from sideboard is enough.
My opinion is that Fae is the best deck, but it honestly doesn't want to see DDW because the matchup is nearly as bad as UW Merfolk's against DDW.

DDW is a very solid deck, and will always apply pressure in any matchup. But the deck's weakness, imo, is that the vast majority of its 'normal' games (where neither player is mana flooded or manascrewed) go into topdeck mode.
It's also a very predictable aggro deck, where a skilled opponent will know your plays ahead of time because it's always 'fast aggro w/ lots of removal'. Elf-ball and Kithkin can play either Zerg Rush or fast aggro, G/B Elf strats vary from fast aggro and midrange, but the many games I've played against DDW/RDW is always "swing with your creatures and kill theirs".
and that's the reason it's most definitely not the most powerful deck.
GB Elves <-man I hate this deck, it has a 50/50 matchup against Tier 1/2 but loses to jank aggro most of the time. Because it has good matchups against faeries, the most popular deck, and 5cc control (drawing more than 1 demigod or hells thunder is like. the game) and doesn't just scoop to kithkin. Also does well against fish unless they draw multiple forge tenders.

It's not bad, but it isn't anywhere near being "the best deck" anymore.
And it mostly does roll over to Kithkin.

I'm finding the exact opposite, I find Forge-Tenders main a lot, it affects my deckbuilding even when I don't play RDW because a lot of the time Kithkin has an answer to maindeck Firespout. RDW does not have a good matchup against Kithkin.
Also, having recently witnessed a lot of Merfolk decks, I will agree that it's definitely really powerful. Losing Lord of Atlantis was lame, but Wake Thrasher is an impressive clock.
This I will agree with. However like Elysium said, it has a good matchup against the best deck (Fae), a pretty good matchup vs. Toast, and destroys Merfolk in my experience.
In games I've watched or played from either side, DDW is 55/45 vs. Fae, 53/47 vs. Toast, 35/65 vs. Kithkin, and 65/35 if not more vs. Merfolk. I've also heard that it has good matchups vs. GB Elves but the only player that played that deck here now is our only Toast player.
*In tournaments as a DDW player, I am 6-0 vs. Merfolk. EDIT> I should add that these wins were not tough at all, even playing against experienced Fish players. As a Merfolk player, I am 2-1 vs. RDW but 1 was not playing Demigod!!! and got mana screwed and the second player was a complete noob (although he played well) and got card quality screwed. The game I lost was in the finals at the FNM and I got completely destroyed, although I didn't see BFT in the 2nd game.

Well the reason I stated that RDW/DDW is one of the best decks is that it does have very strong matchups against 2 of the 3 top decks and unless Kithkin is expecting heavy RDW turnouts Forge-Tender is mostly in the SB but RDW does have one very strong tool against Kithkin G2 and G3 in Everlasting Torment.
So in my expirience RDW/DDW is a top choice in an unknown meta or a meta low on Kithkin. It also doesn't just roll over for Kithkin either but from a witnesses perspective I have seen RDW/DDW win against a Kithkin heavy field and still lose to Naya Zoo... wierd.
The best deck depends of your own metagame and how it evolves tournament after tournament.
Some bits of personal experience here, when I first came to the place I play right now a couple months ago, their meta was strongly control, and won a couple tournies with a Doran Rock deck packing lots of discards. Then people started adding Story Circles and Sower of Temptations in their control decks, while other people switched to pure aggro decks like Kithkin, and get pushed to the bottom tables in the following tournaments. In the latest one I eventually switched to UBw Fae to keep a good MU against QnT and having sideboard options such as *** against aggro. As expected, the QnT decks were quickly pushed to bottom tables, but what I haven't envisionned is the rise of Naya/Vengeant decks, which has a terrible MU against Fae (they were playing things like Gaddock or Oversoul of Dusk in the main deck !), and placed 3 of its players in the tourny's T8. In this meta, I don't think a merfolk deck would have survived long.
But hey, that's all what the constructed play is about, bringing the right deck at the right time !
Why couldn't a Merfolk deck do well? Of all those decks, the only deck it probably fears is your Doran Rock deck just because it can't deal with Doran or other low cost beasts.

My buddy ran UW Merfolk to 2nd place in Maine States...and he was begging for RDW match ups. He had the match down to a science. His sideboard had 12 cards in it that he sided in, and he rolled over them, knowing the right plays to make. He rarely even lost game 1, as you really only have to stop their Demigod of Revenge to gain massive tempo.

12 cards? During regionals I had that much against RDW. I can't imagine making the MU easy though. I mean, if you get a good sideboard draw, sure you will win (BFT, possibly story circle/lark/kitchen finks), while curving out well. But Merfolk have really bad cards that can't deal with the efficiency of RDW, in general. But I'm sure 12 cards will make the MU better.
The best deck and the most powerful deck would be synonymous talon, the key implied operand being "objective". When you're thinking of the "best" you actually mean "favorite". The fact that you play best with a deck you like and enjoy playing with is a speculation you find to be true... I personally love shuffling up a sealed tournament deck and playing against my friends, though I'll lose a lot, winning with that is awesome and losing is no big deal. That doesn't mean that is a good deck just because i have fun playing with it.
Anyway, from reading these posts so far, and some test playing, I'd have to say that I think Fae would have to be the best right now, though I'm sure there is something were over looking... Personally I love seeing completely random decks in top 8 listings, I hate it when all you see in the top 16 of some random tournament are the most popular decks in the format.

The 'best' deck is not the one you have the most fun playing. I have loads of fun playing 59 Island and a Jitte, but lets face it, how great is that. If I enjoy playing a really, really bad deck like, oh, Fae mono green control, its not the best.
Norly. Faeries is the best and most boring deck in this format.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)I agree with this statement. Merfolk do have a tough MU against doran, and definitely RDW, but merfolk beat the most powerful strategies currently.
The reason RDW is not the best is because it absolutely rolls over to kithkin, not saying that RDW can't beat kithkin, it is sparingly unlikely.
Merfolk generally rolls over to RDW, in game 1 especially, but it has a chance to come up on top game two. This is why merfolk is a good meta choice.
