Straight forward question, will you buy a box of Fate Reforged?
Personally, I believe that the set will be amazing for limited, but there seem to only be a few chase rare and mythic cards that will be standard playable (as per the norm).
In short, I suspect that the standard playable cards will demand a premium the amount of product opened will be relatively small and due to only opening 1 pack of Fates in the next two draft formats, supply might always be an issue.
How do you feel about Fates? Will you gamble on a box for an Ugin?...Personally I will just wait for singles .
I don't know . I think FRF have REALLY good cards that will see play. Not only UGIN. I can count from my head at least 10 cards that are playable in constructed.
Will I buy a box? Hell no. Boxes are almost never a reasonable investment unless you have the probability of pulling an incredibly expensive card.
The power level of this set and this block overall is pretty incredible, having just emerged from the lull of theros. I've seen some comments that we havent seen power this high since Innistrad, so take from that what you will.
I would guess rares in this set will have much better price points than those in Khans, because people wont run through an entire prints worth of the set just to greedily open as many fetches as they can (and thereby devaluing almost every other card).
I think there are a lot of limited-only cards, but also a lot more playable cards than is usual for a set. I expect it to be a pretty good set, better than Born or Journey at least.
No box, but I never buy a box. I will however draft this set and do prereleases (like I always do). The powerlevel is quite up there (compared to mistake that was Theros block), and there seems to be a lot value in the set. The crazy part is that we got an amazing set, plus we have chances at fetches. I am overall very happy. My one complaint would be that Tiny Leaders didn't get a Sultai legendary, and is still lacking one.
It's an ok set interest wise, but highly impactful to the meta. Jeskai gets a tool against the mirror and perhaps we'll see tempo make a comeback, U/B control gets a board wipe and a late game hay-maker, Green Devotion could find its way back to the meta, and R/G and Temur Aggro get the tools they need to become a breakout deck. Mythics are overpriced for now, but should go down a lot.
The limited seems like it could be fun, though I'm really digging the Mardu cards, but I like Abzan more for flavor.
I think the power level is about average, if not a bit higher than average for a middle set. I'm not crazy about it and definitely won't be buying as much as Khans. No fetches really hurts monetary value for investing, but Ugin is sure to be an Edh favorite and fetch a heavy price.
No way will I buy a box for Value. The set looks like it could be fun but I see 2 cards that will be worth $10 when the set rotates out and only a handful that will be worth $10 or more in 3 months.
powerlevel is through the roof compared to all the other small "3rd sets".
I consider this a 3rd set because its the only 1 that continues on to the last draft format and remains as a 1pack.
I'll probably buy one box, and play several pre-releases (plus several more drafts). Hopefully I'll pull an Ugin from that. If not, I've got some Containment Priests sitting around that I can probably trade for Ugin.
Not buying a box. I don't think this block has a higher power level than Innistrad.... I mean, where are the equivalents of all those powerful Innistrad cards. I would very much like to know!

In all fairness people didn't know how Innistrad would play out. Or really any set until time passed.
I will buy 2 packs of this set like I do with every set, but that's it.

New Phyrexia would like a word with you.
In all seriousness, it's not as high as Khans. That said, I really like this set. It's not insanely powerful, but I really like all of the mechanics, and it just seems to come together in an appealing way to me. This block is certainly shaping up to be far more exciting than Theros was. Large sets are basically always good (the only recent large set I wasn't a fan of was Gatecrash, and that was really just due to how badly Dimir got screwed with Cipher costs/lack of interesting playables), so I'd be surprised if DTK makes the block a flop for me.
As always, the average money you would get out of opening a box is not going to be higher than what the box is worth. Unless you think the retailers are total idiots who don't know how to do proper business. Is it worth buying a box? In my opinion, never. If you want cards, you're better off playing limited.
I think more FRF will be opened than a lot of second sets since it will also be drafted with DTK. Normally people start getting tired of a set by the time the 3rd one rolls around and so not as much second and even less third get opened. But with a new large set being drafted with it right away, it should keep up interest.
Ugin its the best in the set so far, the only one to get
The rest its a crappy set, dont buy a thing

I had bad luck with a Return to Ravnica booster box.
If I want Fetches or Shock Lands I will buy them individually.
I would especially do this if I only wanted specific cards.
The only time I would actually buy a box is for cards that are worth equal to or more than a 100$.

Not a factual statement.
Boxes generally get sold on initial release For $N, where $N is roughly equivalent for all sets. While it's true that the total value of a box is rarely greater than the cost of said box, it can happen for some sets. Futuresight was pretty good EV; Original rav, from memory, and apocalypse. Maybe one or two others.
I like Ugin well enough, but overall I'm getting kind of a Born of the Gods vibe from this set. Nothing really sticks out to me as being all that great and I'm not really into the mechanics. I think the flavor is fine and all, but we'll see. I don't have high hopes that many of the cards will become too influential, but I suppose I could be eating my hat at some point.

You never buy a box with the expectation of breaking even (or at least you shouldn't). EV being higher than the cost doesn't mean that you are likely to break even (as was the case with MMA, which had a higher EV than msrp and you still wouldn't break even a majority of the time at that price).

It's so obvious to everybody that Monastery Mentor was pushed to be the money card of the set just to make sure people wanted to buy it.
If you don't like limited you might not like this set.
