I'm saddened to see manabond go so quickly. It's easily the most broken card in the deck. With that said there's not too many changes on my end, but i'm going to be trying the worldwake manlands, Last Stand, and i'm going to be adding all the colorless sweepers. I'm also pretty psyched about meloku. I know she's not the most cost appealing, but the fact that she can just win the game by herself paired with manabond is pretty attractive.
I mean, i want to test it more, but i also have the need for more speed as my playgroup is getting faster, and given i rarely want to discard my hand, manabond is gonna come back for testing later. Dont worry my deck isnt as graveyard centric as it used to be and other's lists are, so manabond is weaker for me.
I'm slowly dropping my manlands for better things. They come in handy sometimes, but not enough.
Just dropped manabond for Darksteel Ingot, Mycosynth Lattice for Demonic Tutor (finally got one), Ghost Town for Sacred Ground, and Seismic Assault for Ad Nauseum.
Wow... Ad Nauseum is so good.
Now I need to go in and reconfigure my basic land base.
Also, I'd recommend Tower of the Magistrate. It helps with those pesky equipment decks. Heck, it stops Swiftfoot and Greaves.
the maze's end fetch and wincon check are not dependant on each other. They are separate steps of the same ability. You can have 10 gates + maze on the field, activate the maze, fail to find another maze, then win the game when the wincon check happens.
Hey does Scapeshift ing into mazes end make you win? Or do you need 9 gates then get the tenth with end?
Let me google that for you
4/15/2013: When the last ability of Maze's End resolves, you'll search for a Gate and put it onto the battlefield before checking to see if you win the game. This check will happen even if you don't put a Gate onto the battlefield this way. This check will only happen as the ability resolves, not at other times.
But both those cards make Ad Nauseumso much better!
I've just about got by build together (Legacy lands too), and I'll post when I do. This may well be the coolest MTG deck ever designed!
Thank you for the kind words I am quite proud of where it has come, and of all the different builds made off of it, even independant from my topic. I hope we continue to get new toys as it comes along!
Yeah, ad nauseam and manabond/S. Assault is crazy good, especially in more land heavy builds. I hate drawing an opener of too many lands that do nothing, and no business, so i dont play the land heavy builds youll see here other places on the forum.
The original inspiration was legacy lands, but as time went on, my list at least, became more scapeshift/mazes end oriented, or junk depths oriented. Both are really good. Glad you like it man!
Hi ya'll!
First off, this is my all-time favourite deck! The moment I saw the card I knew that I had to create this deck in EDH. Secondly, I've gone through a different route than reccuring field wipe and instead focused on landfall and to cheat in lots of land. All for the Maze's End win! =)
Third and last, my decks usually takes a theme and centers it's play around that. For this deck, it's lands and 5 color wins. Thus I have the amazing card Door to Nothingness as a secondary wincon and other non-staples.
Without further ado, this is my take on Maze's End EDH
All in all it works just as intended, although it's gotten som well earned early hate due to it's explosive combo nature. Some cards aren't optimal, I know, and it's still a work in progress (that's how I found this primer), but hopefully I'll get there. Any tip on cards that'd make this deck even more powerfull would be appreciated.
Oh, and you should try the Meloku + Manabonds synnergi. It's quite powerfull. I usually get around 6-8 flying 1/1 blockers and as many landfall triggers.

When I first saw your deck (about 3 months ago) I loved it. Now I finally decided to build it today. I will try it the way you have built it (luckily I got the duals so I removed all the shocklands for duals and a couple more cards different).
I have 3 questions though.
1) Why Wasteland is not included in your list?
2) What about Vampiric Tutor?
2) Did you finally managed to try The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale? If yes, how did it work?
Wasteland was included, but not needed for my meta. It was proxied for a while, and utlimately not worth the price tag.
Vamp tutor is an option. Ive been messing with lifeloss flexslots like ad nauseam as this deck can just get hated out and needs to stablize, without losing too much life to glacial chasm. I own one in my nekusar deck, and it may come back in ad nauseams place. I just love ad nauseam in theory, but it always seems to pop up when im at 25 life or less
Yessir i did. Again, like with Wasteland, but moreso, not worth the 300-400$. It nukes token decks HARD. Also, if youre running one of the previous posters more graveyard centric strategies, or my older lists, it hurts worm harvest wins. It certainly has a place in a meta that will abuse tokens but child should be able to handle those most of the time. Again, its a meta call.
I play homeward path. Im rarely happy to see it, but it helps protect people from stealing Child if you cant sac it right away, or Marit Lage, Azusa, KOTR, etc. It became my replacement Tabernacle
Speaking of which, thank you for pointing this out. I should update the primer to include meta nonbasic land flex slots. but yeah, of your suggestions, vamp tutor is #1.
I agree that homeward path is a must for almost every EDH deck (except if you are the only playing the treachery and the bribery and acquire etc).
The Tabernacle will not be needed in my meta also so I will not even try it for now (even if I own one).
I still want to add a Wasteland but I do not know what I could cut before I test the deck, so I will decide if I need it and what I could cut after some playtesting. I will let you know for any further changes I may do.
I would also consider Cavern of Souls as getting the Child succesfully resolved is crucial. It can also help if you are missing any of the 5 colors of the Child as it can provide you with any color for casting him. But I do not know what could be cut in favor of the Cavern of Souls. Any suggestions on that?
It's more important to resolve the spells than to resolve Child of Alara since most of the time I only cast Child once and leave it in the graveyard. So even if Child gets countered, since the deck has enough ways already built in to recur it, it doesn't really matter.
I wouldn't give Cavern of Souls a slot, since it doesn't produced colored mana and it's a 5-color deck. But since you have duals and probably don't have mana problems, why not cut one of the Reflecting Pools/Exotic Orchard type lands?
I definitely think Wasteland is a must-have for this deck. Mainly because it can kill any Wasteland/Strip Mine that are already on board and disrupt you from winning.
Ive considered Cavern but again, meta call. If you face a blue deck in.about every other game you play or more, it's an auto include, naming Avatar.
Most of the land D that happens in my meta is through chaos warp and other spells. Only the Omnath player runs land-based LD. So i bait it out, cause he runs a good bit!

What kind of meta doesn't run Wasteland/Strip Mine? They're as staple as staples come. And you run a land-based deck, do it feel awesome every time you play?

Bahaha they run the spell based land hate. I also run two ways to avoid it. Terra etenal and sacred ground. But yeah, i rarely run into land based land hate. Now bojuka bog, that is my kryptonite! Those weiners always pull it right after a loam.
Okay so i previously posted about how this set has a few potential new cards for this deck! Finally! And the last spoiled is ironically the best fit. Although it can be argued it doesnt really do much, i will give it a run

Going straight in my lands deck. It's a shame that it doesnt allow for more lands to be put into play, but the lifegain helps mitigate glacial chasm greatly, as well as being able to be fetched with GSZ(Not a big deal as i have better targets), enlightened tutor, and allows me to dig deeper. Options are always nice, and being a chump blocker or something to eat removal as well.
Kiora is a trap just because we cant -1 her twice. She may be useful, so I'll test her out. Would be nice to play politics and lock down someones nasty beater in between explores. However, i keep thinking "why the heck dont i just run one shot explore effects?" So if she doesnt work, Explore will come in. I sometimes have issues drowning in lands, or needing certain ones to come down immediately.
In a multiplayer game, I normally just try to build my own board and play defense when needed. Most of the time, I'm trying to slowly build towards a Maze's End win. If things get out of hand, then I lean towards the Child of Alara route- blowing things up and reanimating.
How do you normally play out the decision trees in your games? I have finally started to feel the desire for adding more win-cons to my deck (Dark Depths more so than Valakut).

Mazes end is the best wincon, hands down. Pains me to say. Its just non threatening, and easy to pull off. Especially with scapeshift. I kind of want a personal tutor to increase my chances of finding it.
I have added Personal Tutor to my build as well. The tutor package is growing:
Demonic Tutor
Crop Rotation
Bringer of the Black Dawn
Knight of the Reliquary
Trinket Mage
Expedition Map
Wargate
Entomb
Mystical Tutor
Enlightened Tutor
Gamble
Personal Tutor
Diabolic Revelation (which seems excessive, but sometimes you need to search for 2-3 cards, eg Amulet of Vigor + Scapeshift).
Scapeshift is just such an insane card.
But I do get different cards each time, so I'm not playing the same game every single game (unless you count playing lands the same every single game).
I just need to find a foil Sylvan Scrying to replace Mulch.
Edit: By the way, have you ever

or

I definitely need to try Entomb, D. Rev, and Amulet of Vigor. Im adding Tilling Treefolk in, as well as the new oracle. Might as well test those as well. Gamble, while it fetches loam, isnt doing it for me. Im tired of losing things i need. Entomb is more useful all around regardless.
Scapeshift always gets me mazes end stuff. I would get valakut, but people are so damn paranoid about prismatic omen. Im trying realmwright as a backup plan, but i havent got to test him yet. Just seems too narrow of a card. Itll probably get dropped quickly.
Ive turned 2 Dark Depths into Marit Lage. Burgeoning. Its happened alot actually. Lol. I dont run mox diamond to hit that.

Thanks to many people' s contributions and lists, i have the following to proxy and playtest.
Didn't read through all the comments, so it might have been said, but what about Tolaria West as a tutor for land? Is 3 mana too slow?
It's been in and out of the list. The UU is restrictive. Plus I have plenty of other stronger land tutors for the most part. It could come back in once I redo my manabase again.
I typically build out with spells tested first, then my mana base adjusted to consistently hit those spells on the curve.
I mean, i want to test it more, but i also have the need for more speed as my playgroup is getting faster, and given i rarely want to discard my hand, manabond is gonna come back for testing later.
