We, The Satanic Temple, an established New York City-based religious organization, seek to donate a public monument to Oklahoma’s Capitol Preservation Commission for display upon Oklahoma City’s capitol grounds. As an “homage” to Satan, the purpose of the monument is to complement and contrast the Ten Commandments monument that already resides on the North side of the building.
The existing Ten Commandments monument, donated to the Capitol Preservation Commission in 2009 by Mike Ritze, a representative of the Oklahoma State Legislature and ordained Southern Baptist Deacon, has raised the ire of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) who filed suit in August of 2013, noting that, “the monument stands alone, with no other monuments or memorials in the immediate vicinity.” Also of concern to the ACLU is the “self-evidently exclusive” religious message “that supports and endorses the faiths and creeds of some churches and sects.” We believe that in being allowed to place our monument within the proximity of the Ten Commandments monument, we can appease the ACLU’s concerns.
Its supposed to stand for religious freedom and will be next to a statue of the 10 Commandments. Naturally many Christians are upset about it but I'm not sure there's anything they can do to block it from being built. The statue will depict Baphomet flanked by two children and be 7 feet tall. You will also be able to sit in the statues lap, not only for the amazing selfies but also for contemplation and religious purposes.
How fitting that this bronze cast troll will have horns, if allowed to be set up.
I'd bet they will find some elastic clause to prevent it, or it will be demolished soon enough, or there will be pickets until it is taken down.
edit: in regards to the post below, I totaly would also subscribe to the donator of the 10Cs to withdraw his monument and a no monument rule be set up.
The 10 C's statue will be removed, and the Satanist statue denied...
or the Satanist statue goes in, followed by a Pastafarian Noodle Deity statue, a Moobies Golden Calf, a bronze life size Yoda...(because you know, can't play favorites)

I think a Baphomet statue might slightly boost tourism to Oklahoma City.
There are people who drive out to the middle of nowhere in West Texas (I think it's outside Mexia) to take professional photographs of a large Playboy Bunny sign. The sign allegedly was erected to make a political statement about social conservatism in Texas. This Baphomet serves roughly the same purpose.
They took part in handing down the knowledge of the Crucible device which in the future will allow Commander Shepherd to defeat the Reaper invasion, unless you shoot the stupid little kid on accident because you were bored on that long walk and you had to reload your save to bring sapient organic life back from the brink of galactic destruction.
I'd bet good money this statue will never be built.
There is a BIG difference in many Christians(and other Abrahamic groups ) minds' between having something like this erected, and having a statue to Satan built and bronzed.
I'd bet they will find some elastic clause to prevent it,
If those fail, I would expect radical Christians to take matters into their own hands to prevent construction.
Many(most?) Christians believe in Satan. Many believe he--and images of him--have power on the Earth. So, unlike something innocuous like the FSM statue(which they'd take to be a false idle, but nothing past that), the idea of a Satan statue will not just get them mad, it will get them scared.
So, it was probably the best choice to bring this discussion to ahead.
A lot of people seem to have this misconception of what satanism really is. The religion is based on what Satan represents; self indulgence and self preservation above all else.......a celebration of "sinning"
A lot of people seem to have this misconception of what satanism really is.
Well, it's Dogma is quite varied depending on the sect.[1]
Some atheists to people who literally worship the Biblical Satan all self-identify as "Satanists." So, that the general public might have misconceptions seems reasonable.

Then it would seem this to be a perfect opportunity for the Church to "define" itself, no? And lets face it, Christianity has plenty of its own sects taking "the road less traveled....and full of stupid"

I don't think it's a celebration of sinning as much as an embrace of the entire human condition. The denunciation of "psychic vampires" is definitely not a celebration of sinning. (Spiritual and mental sloth is indeed a sin.) At least that's the impression I got from reading The Satanic Bible many years ago.
Then it would seem this to be a perfect opportunity for the Church to "define" itself, no?
I don't think you--yourself--are that familiar with Satanism and is history if you think a monolithic definition is something sought for.
Certainly, The Satanic Temple--who is sponsoring this--have the only requirements to be a member to support the tenets and beliefs of the organization, and to name yourself a member.[1] So, that can be pretty broad depending on the member. Thus, they're not looking for some monolithic definition of the term "Satanism." The Satanic Temple is also not true LaVeyan Satanism, which you seem to be talking about.
Anyway, I'll just fall back on my earlier statement about misconceptions about Satanism being reasonable in the general populous, and chalk this up to that.

I suppose I was a bit vague. I meant things like lust and greed are celebrated instead of shunned
I don't think you--yourself--are that familiar with Satanism and is history if you think a monolithic definition is something sought for.
Certainly, The Satanic Temple--who is sponsoring this--isn't really representative of LaVeyan Satanism(which is a form of Atheism), and is more akin to Paganism.
But, since the only requirements to be a member are to support the tenets and beliefs of the organization, and to name yourself a member,[1] even that parallel would likely fall flat depending on the member.
Thus, they're not looking for some monolithic definition of the term "Satanism." If anything, they seem to be trying to broaden it.
Well if I were to call myself a satanist it would certainly be more of the Laveyan variety. Cant say that ive kept up with what the church has done over the years. But, in my reading of their bible, the aformentioned is what I took away from its pages.
That said, this would still be an ample opportunity for the religion and its members as a whole to "ease" the publics concern and enlighten the masses to some degree. You know, assure them that no chickens, babies, or virgins will be sacrificed in the lap of said statue
Well, from my quick reading of the site, it seems they aren't affiliated with "The Church of Satanism," or--as you put it--"The Church" (they're "The Temple"). My reading reveals they also don't buy into some of the key tenets of LaVeyan Satanism.
Anyway,
See what I mean about misconceptions being common? You shouldn't fault the general public for confusion over this matter if you--yourself--are confused, remember the third Satanic Statement

I would argue that im not confused per say. I would argue that non Laveyan Satanists arent really satanists at all......just people masquerading as such

Well, I would argue the clever irony of the group becomes lost the moment you start codifying Dogma and saying others aren't "True" whatever's.
The Church of Satan didn't realize that, but it seems the Temple might.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm donating $100 for the complimentary Satanic Temple t-shirt and mug.
Let them build what they want to build, so long as the law allows for it. My question is: if they're denied the right to put it up, what happens to the donated ~$20,000?
"Donors must be aware of the possibility that the monument offer may be rejected or refused by the Oklahoma City Council prior to any construction. If Oklahoma City refuses to allow us to donate a monument, all funds will go toward efforts to appeal or contest the rejection, and/or place another Satanic monument in another relevant location."

I would support this. Of course, the Invisible Pink Unicorn already has a statue there. No one can prove otherwise.

Sadly, this. The good news is that the Satanists will get a moral victory off of this, because they are in effect being censored. I'm all for trolling some Christians, myself. In fact, I'm probably willing to troll all religions.
Except Discordianism. Someone declared me their pope, after all.
The Satanic Temple is also not true LaVeyan Satanism, which you seem to be talking about.
Yeah. That would be The Church of Satan. A totally different thing, I don't get how people get these mixed up.

I am all for it, but the strength of Christianity here in Oklahoma (slowly dwindling) is pretty over-encumbering. I believe this statue should be allowed..

I hope it looks awesome...
But I think that putting it next to the ten commandments is really a punch to the face for Christians. If they intend to annoy Chritians, they may be going a bit far.

Hoping for a cure, or at least an outbreak.

This would be the far more entertaining option
