All of these "Let's eliminate bad cards" crusades are simply ignorant. And when they start to devolve into "WotC is conspiring to give us crappy cards," they just become embarrassing. MATH is conspiring to give you crappy cards.
No, it's a non-sanctioned format. I wouldn't be surprised to see EDH tournaments sometime in the future, but I don't think they'll be as large as GPs or PTs.
I've seen EDH tournaments.
At most large events they do '4 man commander pods' where winner gets a couple boosters and a free entry into the next pod. Kind of like go-go-infinite booster drafts
I would support replacing the Legacy GP with an EDH GP. EDH is a much more balanced Eternal format.
Just kidding, Legacy fans. Put the gun down.

In the same way you can tell someone is from the XVIII century because he is arroused by ankles, you can tell someone is from USA because he feels nipples disturbing.

Bah, I already had my torch and pitchfork out halfway through the first line.
Back on topic, EDH is a fine format for multiplayer, but the entire basis of its design was to create a format that was more variable. It decreases consistency so that everyone can play together at the same table.
It hardly makes sense to base a huge competitive event around a format which is by design more chance-based than other formats.
No. I love EDH and even I think it would be an awful idea. The format is just terrible for the purposes of highly competitive play. Mostly for two reasons:
1. It's broken - "Competitive" decks are just bad Vintage/Legacy monsters...except you have a MUCH higher luck component thanks to the deck building mods.
2. Collusion - Not only are the decks themselves broken, but multiplayer in general is terrible for competitive play because their is no way to police the pre-game politics that can have far more influence on the outcome than any in-game skill.
I meant sanctioned events. They don't exist right now and Wizards says it won't exist, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it in a few years. Maybe even as an FNM format.
I'm not 100% certain but I believe they are sanctioned, I think you get PW points for entering them. I've never entered one, so I honestly don't know.
Probably not. Winner decided by table politics? No thanks
This is the reason we'll never see a multiplayer (3+ teams) sanctioned format, ever. Tackling the collusion problem is not easy, and not something Wizards is ever going to take an interest in.
1v1 could work. Like, it's possible, but still very unlikely, especially on a GP scale, but who knows how things will change in the next few years? If EDH continues it's meteoric rise in popularity, it's not out of the question, but that's a big if. I love EDH, but there are plenty of people who don't. Of the people who love EDH, there are plenty of people who hate EDH duels, so... Unlikely.
An EDH grand prix 1v1 would be like vintage honestly except it's 99 card highlander/vintage with 39 more cards (vintage has so many 1 ofs in decklists.)
But no, we will never see EDH as a GP format or a sanctionable format for that matter.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."

You mean like limited? Yeah, it still requires skill (especially draft), but it's a lot MORE luck-oriented than constructed. Sealed, in particular, involves a lot of luck.
I have to say though, I agree EDH isn't a good fit for a large, highly competitive event. Too much politics, and it'd be combo-dominated.
It might be interesting to see it as an invitational side event, like the "80 pack draft" at worlds. Some kind of limitations on building would be best though, to prevent the most ridiculously broken stuff from dominating. Not being an EDH expert, I'm not sure what the right limitations would be.
I think the closest thing we might ever see to this is, if the Invitational ever returns, we could see Duel Commander (with the French Banlist, 1v1) as one of the included formats. I know back in the day they had 5-color as one of the formats.

At Grand Prix Chicago they held an EDH tournament. It consisted of 4-man pods all through the weekend; winning a pod got you points, and at the end of the weekend the 8 players with the most points faced off starting in two 4-man pods and then (somehow) joining together when there were only 4 players left. I doubt this finals structure had any chance of working, as everyone who was winning had the most degenerate combo decks imaginable. For instance, one of the games I played, a guy won before anyone else had a third turn using his 5-color Hermit Druid deck.

You'd probably need at least 300 judges for the extremely odd card interactions that come up in every game.
We won't see any Commander, 2 headed giant, or emperor GPs.

Good cover, you were very close to being lynched there.
...or everyone and their mother would play Azami Combo-Lockdown.
You ever see an Azami Combo-Lockdown mirror match before?

If you really wanted to experience a large EDH tournament just go play roulette for like 10 hours straight.

Yeah, and even if you were to do a 1v1 competitive, they should do a regular HIGHLANDER GP instead.
I'd like to see more investment in highlander and pauper than commander.
