I went to GP Pittsburgh for the side events and it was a ton of fun. If nothing else, it's a huge tradefest.

Actually, I'm just really stoked each of the god's weapons have their own art. I'm smelling some really cool and probably over costed legendary equipments in the near future!
I've been waiting for this Greek Mythology based set for the past 6 years, so if I act fanboyish, please forgive me.
So I've been toying with the idea of making a EDH deck around Maelstrom Wanderer, and I stumble upon the fact that our local EDH mastermind *cough*rat*cough* has a deck built around that cool guy. I'm wondering if you have a little write up on the deck? I remember you used to have explanations for some of your decks (at least I think), and I wouldn't mind taking a gander at it. He just seems like a fun guy to toy around with, plus I like me those colors I'm such a noob when it comes to EDH though so this will be a challenge.
Also I lost a RTR sealed this week to a guy who pulled 3 voices in his pool (from the 2 gatecrash packs, and 1 also had a foil cause why not right). It was one of the more hilarious matches of magic I've played in a while, not to mention he also had Angel of Serenity which makes it so it is actually just impossible to completely get rid of the voices. was fun :-p

So I've been toying with the idea of making a EDH deck around Maelstrom Wanderer, and I stumble upon the fact that our local EDH mastermind *cough*rat*cough* has a deck built around that cool guy. When I first formed the deck, I had just retired my mono-red Warp World deck (with Ankh of Mishra, Zo-Zu the Punisher, and Knollspine Dragon), but I wanted to keep Warping in some capacity. RUG is the perfect color combination for it, and Maelstrom Wander is the best general for such a creature-centric deck. And so this was fashioned:
No instants, though a few ways to grant things flash, no planeswalkers, 5 sorceries, and a lot of incredibly efficient cards that fail against Torpor Orb. I have actually used Warp World as removal for Torpor Orb (incidentally, the Warp basically ended the game in my favor).

I have seriously considered including Food Chain, particularly as I've played the combo deck in legacy, but that would take more restructuring than I care to do at the moment.
Top on the list of things I want to fit in the deck is Fierce Empath.
So i'm out of magic. Their is officially no place to play up here. The casuals are scattered and the competitive ones lost their places to play. Sucks very much. I can't bring myself to play casually so most people who play for fun just loose a few times then never talk to me again about it. no more constructed tourneys, no FNM's, no prereleases, no gamedays. Have to drive hours one way to attend any of these things. Been spending all my time trying to organize things but they all fall apart. And it's wizards fault. they took the DCI from our only good local shop. they said he wasn't a true store cause he converted half his duplex into a shop. It's commercially zoned and he has the oked by the town and state to run a business. They now refuse to even talk to him about it and just disregard him any time he or anyone calls about it. Even though he was DCI for 4 years. He lost several hundreds of dollars on the not running anything since the dragon maze game day. He lost out on the FTV:20, probably won't have anything for theros. Not looking good for him or any of us.

Speaking of which, I went to GP Oakland to play in legacy side events (screw M14 sealed :p).
Game 1 he mulls to 5 and I rip his hand to pieces with double hymn.
Game 2 he double bolts me out after a pox
Game 3 shrieking affliction kills him after a hymn.
Board: -1 Syphon life, +1 Reanimate
Score 1-0
Round 2: Mono U Dream Halls Combo
Game 1 he mulls and I rip his hand. Shrieking affliction gets there.
Game 2 he combos out
Game 3 he opens with a leyline of sanctity while I have a hand full of hymn and inquisitions. I hymn myself and stick a tombstalker into play, which gets the kill.
Game 1 he saw my reanimate in my board as we were unpacking and assumed I was playing reanimator. He's surprised when a shrieking affliction lock with raven's crime wins the game.
Game 2 he dies to pox and smallpox.
Board: -1 Syphon life, +1 Reanimate
Record: 4-0
Round 5: Merfolk
We get deck checked before the match. I come out okay but my opponent gets a game loss for registering his deck incorrectly.
Game 1 he counters my hymn and my pox and then beats me with fish.
Game 2 I land an inquisition turn 1, a hymn turn 2, a pox turn 3, and then a tombstalker on turn 4. Engineered plague on turn 5 seals the match.
Game 1 he dies to discard
Game 2 he combos out
Game 3 I need to pox him, but bojurka bog is my third land. I reanimate his imperial adviser for nether spirit and play shrieking affliction, hoping to set myself up for a turn 4 pox instead. His sensi's diving top allows him to dig for his combo and the fourth turn never arrives.
I'm in third place after tiebreakers are considered. At this point its past midnight and the last train leaves soon. I concede the last match, and thereby concede my chances for a 1st place mox emerald. I came back the next day, found myself at 6th place, and got a box of M14 for my troubles.
Overall, I had a blast. Beating people with decks worth two to three times my own was awesome. At one point I joked that I needed a few dual lands and my opponent pointed out I was beating everyone who did have duals. It was extremely ironic that everyone knew what the expensive mythic rares like Jace did, but didn't know what the 50 cent uncommon reject draft card shrieking affliction did. The most expensive card in my deck was the single Liliana, but the only thing she did the whole tournament was bait out a counterspell. Okay she was great in the pre-touranment game against a Goblin deck, but honestly money cards are overrated in Legacy.
I traded for an FTV20 chainer's edict. I got my cards signed by artists rk post and Tyler Jacobson. I also got to meet Melissa Detora as she watched a ravncia sealed game. Can't wait for the next GP Oakland to roll around in three years so I can pay $20 for a box :p:nod:

Ah pox my first ever legacy deck it truly is a blast to run as it can be so deadly. Have you ever thought about running dark rituals in the deck, it can lead to a lot of crazy turn one plays with pox, and if you dark rit into a Liliana you are living in value town.
Got rid of my non jace tms/lili walkers tonight. Got 3 books for pathfinder and a kaladrax skeletal dragon"mini" that stands about 10 inchs tall has 12 inch wingspan and 25 inch tail. pretty beast.

If I had to replay that tournament, I would have swapped syphon life and reanimate, and pulled bojurka bog for another swamp.
The Racks were never useful. I've replaced them with: diabolic edict, raven's crime, illness in the ranks, and moved the bojurka bog to the board.
