I have too. I have let go of a lot of cards for way lower than they should have.
Maybe it is the somewhat oversecure card market for high end cards these days that is part of a problem?
Between Modern Cards jumping (see Fulminator Mage) and people "cornering the market" (see Foil JtMS) card prices aren't stable anymore. Things quadruple in price in a day and everyone wants to be a minute ahead of the jump.
The shipping is reasonable, but you're spot on with the other two.
If the mail does not get to you, it is the senders responsibility. Waivers should not be forced to be given.
The waiver clause is reasonable when you give someone the option of registered shipping in the case of sending internationally, and they refuse to pay for the higher priced shipping or any shipping at all. Should you have to eat the $15-$25 to ship something registered internationally because the other person refuses to pay for it?

99% of cards which don't arrive were never going to arrive anyways. Unfortunately we all take our lumps, you just hope it wasn't an expensive one when your turn comes up.
I just did a $500 trade with some dude in England. I used registered because it wasn't cost prohibitive at that size of a trade. but if it were a $40 trade I would take my chances.
You hope that your instincts are good enough, that a good trader hasn't gone rogue, make some people send first (because you have already paid your dues in terms of iTrader) and if your buying PAY YOUR FEEL LIKE A BOSS. It's not to say you won't get scammed, do this long enough and you will run into some idiot, but it's really easy to distance yourself from most of it. Or just mod for awhile and see all the BTR's that are started:nod:
As far as it turning into a business, give yourselves a look in the mirror (me too) and accept the blame. We are just as responsible as WotC. How many copies of "insert card here" that YOUR NOT USING do you need in your binder? I love collecting, in fact I collect a lot of different things, of which 90% of it I DON'T NEED, but I collect it anyways
Elitism and greed, two staples of humanity that help capitalism thrive:rolleyes:
@jeff: Sellers probably think (rightly so) that there are some ignorant buyers out there that will not dispute/return an item if they read that returns are not accepted.
After previous issues with international sales and no longer wanting to worry about such things, I just stopped dealing with international customers all together a couple years ago. Its made my ebaying a whole lot less stressful, especially with things like DSR's and worrying about the potential for negative feedback. I wish international shipping with tracking/insurance was reasonably cheap like it once was, but unfortunately that is just no longer the case. I might not get as much without the added demand pool from international buyers, but I save myself a lot of worry and hassle by just selling to within the US.
I myself, have a very low risk tolerance. I typically will add insurance to any purchase of $20 or above (At my own cost), and add signature conformation typically to $50 or above. I get less reward from my selling, but I'm fine with that, because I effectively have as close to zero risk as one can get when selling cards online :p.
I've still never bought/sold anything on mtgs, mainly because by the time I found mtgs, I was already involved with owning/running the magic singles for a local shop, so the cards ended up coming to me most of the time. Now that I'm done with that and working to sell off my collection, its just easier to stick with ebay, as I'm fully established there, and its all around easier for me to deal with, and makes tax time a lot easier :p. I still do get offers from people on here for items I have listed on ebay, and I just have to explain to them that I don't sell my ebay items outside of ebay. Thankfully most people here are understanding of my choice.
I was asked to be a 3rd party for a trade today as well though, so that should be interesting, hopefully all goes smoothly. And even though I don't trade here, I do think its great that such a setup for player to player trading/selling/etc does exist here, and I encourage others to use it, even if I don't.
I have only ever sought one of each printing of every card for my collection. Hardly speculation on the part of someone without the intent on selling. But to speculate is to become a buisness in my view.
Yup, in my time, some of the BTRs...
The trouble is there are some sub20 iTrader rated traders who expect those with 5 times the number of refs to send first... and if you earned a high number of refs and international, you must send first regardless...
No problem with collectors, they are everywhere and collecting is a part of the game. Speculating on the other hand, certainly has become big business from what I can tell in the last couple of years, perhaps before that (I didn't even know of the game before M12).
You can't blame people for cashing in on what the market is offering up (it's free enterprise after all), especially with the explosion of the player base, BUT.... turning Magic into a speculative market seems to go against the spirit of the game.:-/
I'm so glad I picked up a judge promo Flusterstorm before they went up. I actually just got it in the mail today. I bought it for $35 though I wish I bought them when they were $20 a few months ago. I didn't think I was going to play legacy.
Take it with a grain of salt, because I'm no longer a mod here, but when I was, the policy was that it was okay to brag about getting nice prize pulls or doing well in a tournament, but it was frowned upon to brag about a trade in your favor, as it is tacky and makes you look like a shark.

The general rule I went with was "It is does not come at the expense of another person or store, I am fine with bragging."
Yeah now 20 seems so good for a foil flusterstorm lol. It was the same with judge promo clique, one minute it was 30/equal to nonfoil or around that number the next it's just ridiculous.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."

Man, don't remind me. I sold my judge cliques for $35.
I mean I sold my goyfs at 40 and my lone foil goyf at 80 which by itself is kinda gross, but I got all five for 17 bucks, so I never felt awful about it. Still a little gross to think about.
I have had worse losses than that, as others have as well.
What sucked is it was an online trade, and I was sending second. I confirmed the trade the day before PT Paris...where Caw-Blade was born. I saw in horror as I watched the Thrun tank and Foil Stoneforge spike...and I could not do anything but watch the card climb in value while holding it in my hand.

That bread company remembers everything. But can they remember why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

Yeah deals are few and far between nowadays. Kind of annoying really and how most people treat magic cards like stock now.

I love to hear where people get their cards, how they got them, etc.... Of course taking advantage of others is frowned upon
