For the roll to see who chooses to play or draw, I prefer to use a standard 6 sided die. I had always heard that other sized die were easier to manipulate. Well, this past weekend a guy told me that he likes to roll his D10's because they're "harder to manipulate than six sided die". Any other person I wouldn't care, but I think he's a bit of a cheater and I didn't like he insisted on a certain pair of die so I insisted on my six sided die, but who was right here? Did he have a point? Or was he just blowing smoke?
101.2
"After the decks have been shuffled, the players determine who chooses which player goes first using any mutually agreeable method (flipping a coin, rolling dice, etc.). In a match of several games, the loser of the previous game decides who will take the first turn. If the previous game was a draw, the person who determined who would take the first turn in the previous game decides."
I think a D10 would be more difficult to manipulate than a D6. On the other hand if someone mistrusts me so much that I am not allowed to roll a D6, I don't want to play that game anyway.
so you would take a loss for that match? Instead, call a judge.
The only d20 to use the randomized ones. I dislike when people roll the ones that have all the lower numbers at one end and the higher numbers at the other.

Indeed, a spindown die is not intended to be rolled because of its manipulative properties. Sure, you can't be accurate enough to always hit 20, but you can pretty reliably hit 15+.

"[Screw] you and the green you ramped in on." - My EDH battle cry. If I had one. Which I don't.
Thinking more on the subject, there are additional physical properties to keep in mind as well.
Some dice have rounded edges while others are quite sharp. The sharper the edge, the more resistant the die is to rolling, making it much more likely to "stick" where it is thrown and thus easier to manipulate.
Likewise, the larger the die is, the more accurately you could throw it.
Finally, always use the same die that your opponent did. I don't mean use a d6 if he used a d6. I mean use his d6. A die can be weighted ("loaded dice"), even if unintentionally by manufacturing defect.

I think 3 d6s is the way to go. Can't manipulate how they roll without doing something obvious. Makes it less likely that you'll end up with a tie and have to reroll.
D6's are easier to perform a desired sleight of hand manipulation as the opposite sides of a dice always add to 7. If you're good, you could easily change a 2 to a 5 or 1 to a 6 with a minor distraction.

I do not understand why people insist in deciding by who rolls highest. There's a much simpler and faster way: "If I roll an even number, I decide." (This is, in fact, the same thing as a coin toss.) Only one roll needed, no ties (requiring rerolls), the type of die pretty much doesn't matter (because you are not aiming for higher numbers.)
In a multiplayer game it may be more justified, although even there it could also be decided by a single roll, depending on the number of players (and available types of die.) (With 3 or 6 players a d6 can be used, with 4 players a d4, d8 or d12, with 5 players a d10.)
The problem with rolling a die and "evens I win, tails you win" is that it still can be weighted, giving an unfair advantage to those who know what's what.
Both people rolling the same dice gives them both the same level of advantage. Even if it's weighted, both you and I get that advantage.
D6's are easier to perform a desired sleight of hand manipulation as the opposite sides of a dice always add to 7.
The general production of dice has opposite sides adding to N+1, where N is the number of sides. (While they can't do that on the standard pyramid-shaped d4s, a log-shaped d4 would work that way.)
One thing that nobody has addressed which I find is a RAMPENT problem among magic players is when people don't actually roll the die!!! Instead they flick it, pick it up and drop it, etc
This is so annoying and I unless its a PTA or GP I don't make them reroll but every FNM when someone does this it curdles my blood! How hard is it to just pick it up, shake it, and roll it!

I have no idea how people can manipulate the dice, I know they can and it sucks. I just have enough problems not being too enthusiastic and shooting the damn things off the table.
I prefer odd/even just because it's one roll and then over. I swear I've had ties, even when rolling d20's, at a rate that seems statistically impossible.
Ive gotten into some heated arguments with people that say roll then throw their freaking spindown. Im like no, that isnt a random die, and if they dont believe it, I pick it up and roll so it lands on the high side 3-4 times, and then roll my couple d6s. Usually it gets the point across but some people just have to roll their damn spindowns.
Well it is a lot easier to draw on 2d6 than it is to draw on a single dice roll. With 2d6, you have more ways to get the same numbers, especially at the heart of the roll range. (6 ways to roll a 7 for example, 5 ways to get an 8, 4 ways to get 9, etc...)
I usually roll a D10 or random D20, though most of the time I don't care one way or another. If we're doing Odds/Evens, a spindown would be fine for that too.
I think the only decision method that is really fair is to have everyone put 6d6 in a cup, shake the cup vigorously so that no cheating can occur, and then slam the cups down.
Players take turns bidding years of service on the Flying Dutchman, and naming how many times a number appears on the dice (for example '5 6s' or '3 2s' or 12 '5s').
If you guess correctly, you go first. If you guess incorrectly, you lose your immortal soul.
I am probably every color-combination it is possible to be, though it's really hard to figure out what it would mean to be 4-colored....it doesn't seem logical to be 4-colored without being 5-colored.

With six sided die, each face has 1/6th of the surface area.
With a ten sided die, each face has 1/10th of the surface area.
It's got to be much harder to make a die stop on a specific side if that side is smaller in relation to the die, right?

Monopoly is hardcore though. I mean magic is just a game, but I will straight up shank someone taking baltic yo.
