I noticed in the players guide that Xenagos was mentioned as becoming restless and wanting to rise to godhood. It sounds like it might be a plot point for the next expansion in the block.
I also noticed that it explained that Elspeth fought a monster as soon as she got to Theros, which is remarkably similar to Face the Hydra. Maybe fighting Xenagos will be a challenge deck or some other similar prerelease activity.
Is it just me, or is Xenagos really just Sarkhan Vol in Satyr form? Starts out R/G, gets all depressed and stuff, then goes off the deep end right into B/R?

S'funny, we have zero evidence of a color shift.
Is it implausible that he goes right off the deep end into MORE G/R?
I figure they're saving that for last, and the Born of the Gods event will be something we don't know yet.
I'm crossing my fingers that it's one of Kiora's krakens and that Kiora is in the set.
The BNG event will be fighting "The Horde" (Minotaur). There was an image leak from the Hero's Path website (the same one that revealed Ajani and Xenagos God, actually) that also showed challenge names. Surviving "The Horde" was the last event in the BNG set, just as Facing the Hydra was the last one in Theros.

Where would that even lead? What's the extreme of Red/Green? Primal savagery is about the extent of it, but he's long past that stage even at this early point - he's wanting power, even though he knows that power is ultimately pointless because of his Planeswalking travels. Red/Black always has that tragic aspect to it, power and emotion turning ultimately into extreme destructive hedonism and outright terrorism that leads to nowhere.
He despairs of life because of what he saw and now that's going to become either his undoing or the undoing of all of Theros. Unless somehow Elspeth and Ajani manage to talk him around somehow and he cools down and becomes some kind of Nylea #2. I actually think I'd like that more - not everything has to end in a fight, and Elspeth is sick of fighting for now, so maybe she'll forgo the fighting and give diplomacy a try. Might work - Xenagos might be a hothead but I think he might still be able to be persuaded. Of course, color shifting a planeswalker in the same block is unlikely, but if he went from R/G to G/W, it'd make a nice change - Elspeth teaching him there's more to life than just yourself, that you can find fulfillment through helping others.
He won't color shift once he attains godhood. If your pay attention to flavor text and card names the entire pantheon has been referenced except a R/G god. If Xenagos shifted he would be taking Mogis' color combo.
Who's to say he won't try to take over another God's domain? I'm sure there was a R/G god before he showed up. Anyway, does this mean that Xenagos will get both a Planeswalker card AND a God card for himself?

I also think you're not giving characters enough credit and being a little slavish to a very narrow view of the color combinations. There are a lot of aspects and ways to combine the colors.

All the colors are incredibly limited in what they do and how their users behave, and thus those that use certain color pairings tend to be predictable to a point. You don't see White going around butchering people and raising them into undeath or Red caring about knowledge and learning - the colors all do what they do, and only overlap when other colors are forced to work with them.
He doesn't feel like a R/G walker to me. He feels B/R. It's evident at this point that wild, drunken parties are not going to cut it for Xenagos anymore - he wants something more. He wants the power to shape his desires, and Black is all about personal power. I think the only reason they made him Green at all is because he's a Satyr, but even though he's a Satyr, he owes allegiance to no one. He doesn't care about community or even other Satyrs, his peers. He has no reverence or respect, merely disinterest and indifference.

You see white going around butchering people as often as you see them healing people and.... well white spirits are a thing.

Green covers a wide spectrum, including caring about instinct and following it to the exclusion of others. It isn't so solidly based in community and the status quo that it cannot discard that for the expression of personal freedom for an individual.
I will say that ambition IS usually reserved for black, but it's not like any other color is incapable of feeling it, PARTICULARLY when we are talking about a more fully fleshed character like Xenagos or most of the other planeswalkers.
Just because they do not possess the color does not mean they do not possess the emotion or motivation.

I would be very surprised if we got a Xenagos creature card since it would be the first time a character was printed as a creature and a planeswalker since the planeswalker card type was introduced.
I'm expecting something more like why we got Melek, Izzet Paragon in Dragon's Maze. Ral Zarek was originally the Izzet maze runner but Melek was added so UR wouldn't get shorted a legend.
A RG God is coming but I would expect a second walker card for Xenagos before a creature card.

The difference being that this appears to have been planned. There are images of Xenagos as a god, a clear lack of a RG god and his own bio stating he plans to ascend to godhood. Compared to, say, Ajani, who only has one image showing him and a letter to him that states it will never be delivered, Xenagod is a shoe-in. He hates being a planeswalker, and as we know, planeswalkers can sacrifice their sparks to achieve large effects. It's not out of the question that he trades the ability to planeswalk for godhood.

They're sort of exceptions - they were creatures before they were elevated to the post of Planeswalker.
We do know that there are ways of stripping a Planeswalker of their spark, as seen by Ob Nixilis, the Fallen. That would also be an interesting possibility to see happen. It probably won't, of course.

I keep seeing mention of that. What happened there? That sounds like some Bolas ****, taking away someone's planeswalker powers...
This is base spec, we're discussing potentials, nothing more.
I'll admit it's not very likely. A lot of what I've talked about isn't, but I do get tired of the same old thing, the pointless fights that end badly and weakly. I'd much rather something interesting and extreme happen, something we didn't see coming, something that makes us think.

I think the problem is, wizards like foreshadowing and dropping hints.
It'd be quite cool to see a plane where they told us next to nothing, showing what cards do (stats and abilities) not what they are (name, creature type, or image), leaving that until we actually get our hands on the cards. Like the Mirrodin/Phyrexia thing, but to the extreme.

Pretty much just what is says on the card. Zendikar's volatile mana was ripe for exploitation, but Ob bit off more than he could chew and it essentially mana-burnt him until his spark snuffed.
It's a very similar story to the The Fallen all the way back in the Dark.
If you're going to do that then you forgot Nicol Bolas.
I specifically said "Since the introduction of the Planeswalker card type". I'm aware that we have characters that are both card types but since creating the card type no character has crossed that line and thus we have not been able to have in play two versions of the same planeswalker character.
If Xenegos is printed as a god card then he will be the first planeswalker to cross that line and much of the careful work that went into giving planeswalkers unique types will be undone. I'm not saying that they won't do it, I'll just be surprised if they do.

I write flavor articles for RoxieCards.
I play and judge at Giga Bites Cafein Marietta, Georgia.
If they do the obvious, we'll probably get a kraken to fight for the next set, followed by Xenagos himself at the end.

I guess the real question is does the colour identity restrict the creative to the point that we get cookie cutter characters and motivations.
