I dunno, it just seems like Xenagos is getting set up as either Bolas himself or one of his agents. Ajani's turning up later in the block, and the art of him opposing Xenagos feels to me like it alludes to his encounter with Bolas. The horns aren't a great match, but if they were, wouldn't that give too much away?

Xenagos was born on Theros. Bolas is a native of Dominaria.
Xenagos wants to usurp the power of the gods to become a big fish in a small pond.
Bolas wants to become immortal and omnipotent again.
The gods are likely stuck on Theros due to their dependence of worship. Bolas does not want to get stuck on a plane. It is *highly* unlikely that there is any form of connection between Bolas and Xenagos.

I don't think they're connected either, based on the info we have right now. Having said that, I would be completely unsurprised if he was working for Bolas. After all, both Elspeth and Ajani are also in this block, characters who've featured prominently in Bolas' overall narrative arc before. Both of them were highly involved in the story of Alara and the Conflux, and Elspeth had direct contact with Tezzeret on Mirrodin, who was acting as Bolas' agent.
On the other hand, maybe after having Bolas be a player in 3 straight blocks (and 4 out of 5 from Time Spiral through SoM), maybe Wizards decided to take a break from him. We have, after all, now had two consecutive blocks with nary a peep from him.

Pretty sure Bolas had nothing to do with Lorwyn, and he obviously had nothing to do with Zendikar, and barely had any connection to Scars block, IIRC.
Though I'm not very good with the storylines.

You're correct in that he had no place in Lorwyn's storyline. But his machinations were quite important to what happened on Zendikar, and his use of Tezzeret on Mirrodin pretty much confirms that he has serious plans to manipulate the Phyrexians there (although, in fairness, HOW his influence will affect Mirrodin has yet to be made clear).
The Elder Dragon empire didn't rise on Dominaria, but spanned dozens, if not hundreds of planes. The Elder Dragons weren't planeswalkers, but their power rivaled that of oldwalkers at their height, including the ability to planehop.
After the war, Bolas discovered the still young Dominaria and fought what is possibly the first planeswalker duel EVER there against a Demonic Leviathan. The clash was so titanic that it leveled a fourth of a continent and lasted over a month.
Since their brother/cousin took such an interest in it, most of the other survivors of the war eventually found their way to Dominaria themselves.
But yes, Bolas and the other Elder Dragons predate Dominaria.

I think less manipulating, more gathering intel and assessing them as a threat.
New Phyrexia may be a shadow of its predecessor, but Old Phyrexia was one of the most powerful forces in the multi-verse. Bolas is certainly aware of their history and their potential.
The internal conflicts of New Phyrexia are holding back their power for now, but the Phyrexians are exactly the kind of force that can become a serious threat to overshadowing Bolas. You can bet that Bolas will do all within his power to keep tabs on Phyrexia and sabotage their continued rise in power.

You missed the part where being a god only does anything if your on the plane of Theros since you're totally reliant of devoted followers. Also, Theran gods are in no way omnipotent, they are modeled after greek gods. Greek gods are very powerful, but they have many flaws and their power is limited. Bolas gains essentially nothing in terms of power by becoming a god on Theros.
Bolas also isn't a ****ing satyr.

Bolas gains essentially nothing in terms of power by becoming a god on Theros.
That's not entirely true. He gains being a god on Theros.
Bolas is incredibly vain. I mean, he's already set himself up as the god-emperor across several worlds, most notably Madara on Dominaria. He literally went by the title "God-Emperor".
Even if he can't harness that power elsewhere, it offers him a MASSIVE source to exploit in the form of... well, everyone on Theros. Now, I certainly don't think Bolas will do so, but it's not accurate to say he has nothing to gain.

Well... We don't know exactly how godhood works either, it is possible that if someone would become a god, they'd end up stuck on Theros. And that alone is reason enough for Bolas to not want it. Bolas wants his freedom to do as he pleases.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
On Zendikar it was Bolas's manipulation that led to the Eldrazi being released in the first place.
Mirrodin/New Phyrexia he sent Tezzeret(by far his most powerful agent on a plane made of metal) to insert himself in Phyrexia's leadership. Bolas's hope there:
Tezzeret being as ambitious as he is, he works his way to the top and tries to use them against Bolas, at which point Bolas enslaves him again and becomes the ruler of Phyrexia.
Alternatively, he can simply provide a portal to another world (or just bring some oil), allowing him to use them as a weapon capable of essentially destroying any plane he wants.
Alara, of course, he manipulated everything to drain a huge amount of power from the convergence.
Xenagos definitely seems like he is working based solely off his own ambitions. It is possible during the time he first left Theros and learned of the Multiverse he may have crossed paths with Nicol Bolas but I kind of doubt. It seems he feels betrayed both by the Theros gods and multiverse upon realizing what a small insignificant speck of dust he really is. Xenagos is just a bratty rich kid who just realized he is actually really poor and will do anything to actually be rich (with power).
I think at the end of Journey Into Nyx both Elspeth and Ajani will beat the hades out of Xenagos but he will just barely escape. Then while half-dead Nicol Bolas will appear in front of him and offer him a chance at real power instead of just the gods' power. CLIFFHANGER!
What role Ashiok or the Born of the Gods planeswalker (Likely Kiora) have in all this I have no idea.

Ashiok's motivation is quite simple, it is a dementia summoner, it want's to spread misery and fear to produce nightmares that it can summon, thus increasing its own power.
As for Kiora, who knows, she's kinda crazy.

1. Xenagos' horns are very different from Bolas'.
2. The slight similarity between X's and B's appearance is solely due to making them BOTH seem like THE DEVIL. They have Horns. They have arcane robes. There ends the similarity.
3. WotC is rather blunt when it wants to be. If it wanted us to draw a connection between Xenagos and Bolas, by now it would have been painfully obvious.
Bolas is still 'In the Multiverse', and Bolas seems like the type to be interested in the Power of Theros. OR Bolas MIGHT actually Fear Heliod? o.O
We really don't know, but I think if Xenagos is big enough to 'upset' Heliod, that Bolas probably doesn't consider Theros important.
Bolas could be making a mistake though.
And remember- just because the Greek Gods of Theros are using Elspeth as their Vassal, doesn't NECESSARILY mean that they could not oppose the threat of Xenagos on their own. But Heliod might just be CHOOSING to use a mortal because it suits his whims to help one who is lost ascend to Heroism?
Such are the whims of the Gods.
Ashiok, we have NADDA to go by, because we've never had a Planeswalker that seemed....'more like a Creature than a Person'. Ashiok could easily be a Spy of Bolas'. Not saying he/she/it/Michael Jackson IS, just saying COULD BE.
AS OF RIGHT NOW, Xenagos' path probably has not crossed Bolas' at all, but Planeswalkers are pretty hard to kill, even being mortal. Mainly because they have Super Apparating Power.
All the Blue 'Walkers 'cept Tamiyo have now Outright Tried to Kill Each Other and they're all still around...what I'm saying is...Elspeth could save Theros from Xenagos probably pretty handily with help from Heliod and Ajani...
But we have no reason to think that Xenagos will be dead at the end of the Block. And I foresee Xenagos being a very popular Planeswalker character that has more things happen to him in The Larger Plot.
Xenagos could Very Easily end up interacting with either Bolas or even Tibalt down the road...that is, do we know whether or not Sorin has actually Killed Tibalt or not?
After whatever happens in "Journey into Nyx", then whatever is left of Xenagos will probably be our main villain until they want to actually do something with
1. Bolas
2. Eldrazi
3. Phyrexians
AND IF WOTC THINKS THAT IT'S CUTE AND FUNNY
to turn Xenagos into a Half-God, Half-Walker at the end of this Block, NOT kill him, but just kind of leave him Mysteriously Wounded and Bitter at Elspeth, meaning we have FOUR Multiverse-Threatening-Level Super Villains running around the freaking Blind Eternities.....then....um
-_- **** that's exactly what they're going to do, isn't it?
I am probably every color-combination it is possible to be, though it's really hard to figure out what it would mean to be 4-colored....it doesn't seem logical to be 4-colored without being 5-colored.

Actually Bolas sent Tezzeret to Mirrodin to prevent The Phyrexians from getting a leader and therefore cause them to infight. Bolas sees Phyrexia as a threat, but one that can be delayed before it gets multiversal power. Without a Father of Machines, phyrexia has no direction.

Cept Bolas and Tezzeret hate each other. Tezzeret did this favor as repayment for Bolas restoring his mind. They are actually rivals. If Tezzeret simply stopped doing his mission, Bolas would just kill him, and Tezzeret knows this. If Tezzeret becomes the Father of Machines, he failed his mission and Bolas kills him.
