People can be so afraid of being wrong they will persist in it. I think a good debater always leaves room for the possibility he is wrong; it makes for a healthier discussion.
Oh, and the internet has a funny way of making written language more aggressive for some reason. As a rule of thumb, I give the benefit of the doubt to other posters and assume they mean no harm by the structure of their responses and posts.
A good debater leaves opinions and emotions at the door. You defend the position you stand for, thats it.
I think opinions are necessary for debate, opinions backed by facts and solid reasoning (unless your debate has real-world implications, then whip out logical fallacies).
A master debater? Well, he probably hung up his spurs and enjoys good word play.
... Jeez, leave you guys alone for 12 hours and this is what the thread devolves to?!
I'm so jealous. I miss all the fun things
Also, side note, had the first day of organized EDH at my LGS that I finally got them to let me set up today! It went a lot better than expected, I was expecting 3-4 people and we had 9, which should double or so next week if everyone actually brings the friend(s) they said they would
Also, nice people are such a blessing. Everyone was cool, no-one was trying to do anything completely degenerate to lock everyone out, everyone was in a good mood, no-one got pissy about stupid stuff. It was a really enjoyable day! Very very grateful, for sure.
And Trading Post in my pack that I got as a door prize, which I didn't actually have. 1 card closer to my Ghave Stax that I dream of building, 99 cards to go
Brother came over and for the first time since the Grand Prix I got to play some EDH, so that was fun. Built a new Teneb deck, did alright against his mono U Arcanis deck... I need to work on the manabase though. Anyone else get any good games in? (Haven't gotten to play much, so I haven't even been on here that much.)
I'm an excellent debater because I'm always right. It's just a matter of you accepting your wrong.
... so you are a woman? I knew this!
Also: My lab course begins in an hour, I'll be spending 12 hours today in the labs, and I managed to sleep like 3 hours this night... I'm waiting what this all is going to lead to...

Horrible, horrible things.
So, I think I've decided how to build my new Wanderer deck now. I'm planning on going for a Stax Wanderer. By the way, I like stax.
I got a Japanese foil Trading Post (M13) in a trade for like a dollar rare. Some day I'll turn that card into something nice.
I bought a copy of Genesis online and wasn't paying that close of attention to it. I was trying to buy a cheap LP version, so my main focus was on the LP and the cost.
"... As Pedro was about to begin his speech at the UN, a thunderous boom erupted outside. As everyone rushed out, in the distance a large metal object was ascending to the stars. It had seemed odd that the Arabs hadn't showed up, but Pedro had assumed it was due to them being in despair over a close loss. He now realized that they had allowed him to rule the planet as they were off to rule the stars. The ship of the desert has now become the ship of the stars."
I played (and still play) Civ III constantly forever. Micromanaging and out-playing my opponents and overwhelming them with the power of the Mayans, Incas, or Sumerians was great fun. I was the kind of guy who would either crush you before turn 50, or else build up a massive empire and just overwhelm you with units.
Then comes Civ V. Almost all of the micromanaging is gone, the ability to stack units is gone (and single-stacks are terribly easy to deal with on any difficulty or against players who don't plan ahead) and the various build strategies have been torched. And why the hell did you get rid of cultural takeovers and building outside of your ZoC... and why the hell can't I choose to either put production or food on my tile instead of being forced into farms?
The road spam removal was probably for the best, but still really puts a damper on the strategies having a good roading system gave you. Gone are the Nukes being dropped on roads to deny resources or travel times Now the nuke is basically just a glorified cruise missile.
Also individual city happiness being replaced by a global count is boring. Instead of managing each city's production individually just hitting a critical mass of happiness lets you ignore those buildings in newer cities for the next 50 turns. Meh.
Embarkation for units breaks coast control in regards to pvp. No more hunting down transports with submarines. Your coasts went from something to be protected and at the same time your strongest locale to a frontier with little to no protection outside of constant patrols by ships that aren't worth building because did I mention cities can attack and don't need garrisons? I'd rather my forces just rampage through your lands than spend any time trying to defend my indefensible coastline.
That being said, some of the aspects granted by Civ V are awesome. Hex maps, caravans, religion (although the interplay within the game sucks, the idea is there), the philosophies, great persons... these are solid ideas.
But overall? Civ V is not the childhood-sucking game of strategic awesome Civ III was.
All that in mind I currently play Civ V more than III because we've got a group of 10-15 people who play it daily, and multiplayer games are fun as hell while drunk.

Tantarus: It didn't make the gaka greifer level, so it should be fine

Give me your address, I'll mail you some Forests, Plains, and Swamps. Then you'll only be 63 cards to go.
I hear ya. I wandered into Debate and backed out slowly, pouring a can of gasoline as I went.
