I think this P/T has shown that Devotion decks are the real deal.. and yes like someone previously said, Ultimate Price is now main deckable for as long as this is the meta.
Man this PT was a blast. The best players recently, the best players all time... everyone was playing!
And all the decks seems cool! As usual the pro came with new ideas and uses for the cards. Standard seems more healthy than the last 4 or 5 years I guess.
But we still have room for a MonoW Devotion brew hehe
I liked the way the U agro deck went but i think its way too fragile I just don't see it being a big one before born of the gods comes out... ( maybe splashing B it can be better).
I didn't see it but a week before i played against a GR destroy land that was really good against midrange and in this case Mono U agro.
All in all this new meta is really nice as many decks can come out and do well ( i ll try RUG control again. 2 weeks without playing it and now that people will be playing mono U my maindeck playset of Mistcutter Hydra will do very well)
But we still have room for a MonoW Devotion brew hehe
We'll get there... eventually. I hope White Weenie is probably the best bet for it right now with all the WW costs (Precinct Captain).
Unlike other colors white really doesn't have a solid reason to focus on devotion. Aside from the gods, Blue has Master of Waves, Red Fanatic of Mogis, Black Gray Merchant of Asphodel - all of which have solid effects if you build devotion. Green has their god whom you really want to turn on as green loves a 6/6, indestructible fattie that can pump and makes your other fatties trample.
White, meanwhile, has..... Evangel of Heliod . If you're that late in the game and wanting 1/1 tokens, just play Elspeth.
Hopefully Born of the Gods/Journey Into Nyx gives a good enough reason for Monowhite Devotion decks. I would love to see high-level events being dominated by monocolor devotion decks for a change - nothing against multicolor, but it'd be something different.
how does hydra help? they play no removal, their stuff flies or can be unblockable, or hydra blocks only one of several tokens.
actually its just a finisher that can't be turned in a frog...
I have played against similar lists on cockatrice and it did well ( My deck plays alot of burn and master is the only creature hard to kill )
All I'm reading is people listing cards that only answers a particular aspect of the mono U deck. Why don't you play all of those cards in a deck and I'll play mono U and see which comes out on top?
Does not kill specter. This was one of the reason the deck was hard to fight there was not much removal that kills it and master. Dimir charm is looking pretty good now as it can hit all the cards in mono U. Then u have stupid Thasa... Lol did any one catch the RnD vid where the guy goes " I realy hope indestructible enchantments won't be problematic". Well congrats the thre mana one with great abilities is!
Ultimate Price doesn't hit Weird, Specter, or Familiar, but it hits every one of their other creatures (Mage, MoW, Cloudfin, and Omenspeaker), but that's just the U version. It hits almost every creature in the G, R, and B versions, as well as the white if that ever shows up. Most of the creatures being played right now are mono-colored, and even decks with a lot of multicolored guys like GW also play a ton of mono-colored guys (Satyr, Advent token, mana dorks, Arbor Collosus, Mistcutter, Polu, Scooze, etc.).
It also hits Stormbreath Dragon and DD. I think it is very well positioned right now. Besides, that's why I also run Doom Blade, Devour Flesh, Far // Away, Last Breath, Pharika's Cure, and Glare of Heresy in my 75. That's not to mention the D.spheres w/ Sin collectors and Thoughtseize as disruption.
To be honest I hope more people play these devotion decks because my deck just crushes them very easily. I have more problems with AIR/RDW than any other deck. Go Big Red devotion!

I could see a Mono-white Devotion deck with Nykthos, Heliod, Angel of Serenity, and Elspeth. White has a lot of good early creatures whose mana costs are WW as well as mid-range guys.
A shell of:
Soldier of Pantheon
Judge's Familiar/Dryad Militant
Precinct Captain/Imposing Sovereign
Boros Reckoner/Fiendslayer Paladin/Banisher Priest
Heliod
Spear of Heliod
Archangel of Thune
Elsepth
Angel of Serenity
etc.
With removal like Last Breath, Celestial Flare, pseudo in Banisher Priest/Spear of Heliod and Angel of Serenity. Also works well with Brave the Elements. Certainly something there if someone does some work. (Ajani could work too if you wanted to do that)
Before this PT with so many mono blue devotion i built a similar version. What is your input on hidden strings? take maybe a few judges/vaporkins out and have it perma ciphered to a flyer

I don't know it looks like a ramp and a pseudo vigilance but i don't think it would mater cause if you are trying to play cyclonic rift on your own turn then...
I think Green/Red deck which was played by Mihara got a great potential. I predict the appearance of this deck in the tournaments will be abundant and with good sideboard it can beat anything. Garruks are just insane vs mass removals, and mb ppl will start adding some kalonian hydras in main. The fact that Mihara lost in semis 0-3 to a blue deck doesnt cancel the fact that he managed to beat 7 of those decks on the way to the top-8 and won 6 of those 7 with 2-0. He just really wasnt lucky at his semis in game 2 and 3 (Bad draws and mulliguns), but that happens. I was rooting for him and the deck really deserves the first place, though french guys did well and 2 thumbs up for them.

Heliod himself is brutal in a land war in a white creature deck. White aggro plus Heliod plus Spear plus Brave is pretty good. Kind of matchup dependent, though.

Mono White Devotion does sound like fun, but you would absolutely have to splash another colour removal to get rid of Blood Baron of Vizkopa. Black Devotion doesn't worry about this card because of Zombie, Edict and Thoughtseize... White doesn't have many ways to deal with it on its own.
I think the breakout deck is Mihara's, not monoblue. Good fast mana decks are always tier 1. Wolf run ramp, Valakut, Mythic.dec, etc. I'm surprised Zwi didn't play it
And breakout card is Nykthos. Last time we had land that produces loads of mana when? Cabal coffers dominating Std?
Monoblue will sell a lot of THS cards though just by virtue of existing.
I'm currently working on a Mono White Devotion deck and for Blood Baron i have Celestial Flare and Renounce the Guilds (so good). Imposing Sovereign is also good against it.
T4 Angel of Serenity is really strong.
That sounds awesome! Do you have a list?
I really do like that we've seen just about every Mono-Color deck do well since standard started. It's refreshing to not have the only mono-color option being red.

THIS! I run Big Boros and although usually they attack either solo with Baron or Obzedat having a spell that can take them out without the attack clause is so nice.
Wow, I have to say I wasn't expecting mono-blue to take the spotlight like this. Just a couple weeks ago it seemed the metagame was headed in a more control-heavy direction.
I'm more excited about Mihara's deck, though. I've been trying to put together a heavy green ramp deck and it's encouraging to see this type of deck do well competitively. Hopefully it won't just be a flash in the pan.

As mentioned above - Polukranos owns. Plus, if you had seen Mihara's play in rounds you would have noticed that mono blue best draws are subpar to Geen/Red best draws. You can never race Mihara's deck if it got at least ok draws. The semifinlas .. well, as i said, Mihara was terribly unlucky. I mean he got the worst draws ever! Thats really frustrating for me, since i was rooting for him (yes, i am biased), but his deck shined also. I was hoping Mihara would crush all mono blue opponets (like he had done on the way to the top-8) and get the trophy, but alas...
I still think the mono U will have to splash another color to stay as competitive. Black seems the best choice IMO as you can beat mist cutter and world eater quite easily with doom blade or even an early game thoughtsieze. Not to mention ashiok would be a monster in a mirror match.

I thought so too. The big surprise for me was Mihara's deck, it looks beast when you have a swarm of fatties.

I didn't see Mihara playing against any blue deck, but I have my doubts. Getting Polukranos hybridized or bounced in response to the montrous ability feels like the worst tempo swing ever, and having Elvish mystic tapped with Tidebinder mage on the draw must be really annoying.
Maybe there's a gruul deck that can beat blue but with maindeck Tidebinder and Master of Waves, why handicapping yourself by relying on green-red? At this point I'm more tempted on deck with black or even going Orzhov in order to bypass their hate cards.
