Been taking a bit of a break from watching Higarushi and Higarushi Kai to play a VN called Rewrite. First time playing a VN, and I gotta say, it's a nice way to wind down before bed. Anyone know of any other good VNs for when I finish?
I just finished watching SAO a week or so ago myself.
Before continuing, I'll spoil one important piece of info that is necessary to understanding why the anime is constructed the way it is. This show consists of two light novels and several short stories. Most of the short stories were written after the first light novel, but set in the time period between episode 1 and episode 8. The anime is presented in chronological order. The disjointed result in story flow seems to have caused a lot of criticism.
Modern 40 year olds enjoy video games too. I'm sure this will be even more common among future 40 year olds.
Was more of a joke than anything. I just sort of expected more ragey 12 year olds
Since it is within a game, the main flaws/challenges are emotional or psychological rather than physical.
granted, but I was more referring to personality flaws, not physical weaknesses. The main character not only is one of, if not the most powerful character, but he also comes off as polite, mature, and overall a good individual as well. He suffers emotionally, but not because of any flaw of his own...I don't know. I feel it would have been more compelling if at least occasionally his suffering was a result of some mistake HE made.
As I understand it, SAO is not finished in Japan. More books are not yet animated and additional books may be published in the future.
Fair enough, but we'd be talking about future arcs, yes? Not a continuation of the adventures within SAO
That episode is from a side story that was written after the original Sword Art Online story arc finished. The books are not written in chronological order, which means a followup sidestory is possible in the future.
Was more just a comment on the lack of continuity in general. I understand what you're saying about continuity, but at that point I almost wish the creators would have diverged from the source material for the sake of the story. I really bothered me that so many plot points and characters are brought up and forgotten just to maintain manga faithfulness
That's pretty much it.
The second story arc is from a different book than the original story arc.
Then let me shift the blame to include the authors for crapping on a great concept
Supposedly a cultural difference. It seems this isn't considered incest. This can be inferred from her dialogue in the scene after she finds out Kirito's offline identity.
As above, the second story arc is from a separate book than the original story arc. For this story arc it is not a subplot. It is part of the main plot.
Referring to both points about the cousin:
Fair enough, but I don't understand why they put it in apart to satisfy some fan fetishs. I mean does anyone seriously believe that the main character is going to fall in romantic love with his cousin? Is clear from the beginning how it's going to end just by its own nature >.<
He's a long time family friend. He is always on his best behavior in front of the father. The father plans to have him take over the family business as his heir.
But marrying a comatose teenager? Why not just hand off the business to him, and let him marry the girl if/when she wakes up like a normal person >
This is to contrast with the villain from Sword Art Online.
Indeed. The first villain is a sycopath with a God complex, while the second one is just a closet pervert
I'm surprised I haven't seen more criticism of how the villain from Sword Art Online was portrayed in a savior role during the resolution of ALfheim Online.
Maybe it's an elaborate referrence to the bible. He plays a vengeful God in round one, then a protecting on in round two. I dunno, by that point I was sorta numb to what was going on

So, out of boredom I started watching a version of Rurouni Kenshin on Crackle... This dubbed version is different from the series I'm familiar with-
1> different voice actors, though the one who voices Kenshin sounds the same; namely, the lady who voiced Pokota in Slayers Revolution (or sounds like her) replaced Wendee Lee as Yahiko's VA.
2> the va's say "bat-too-sai the slasher" rather than "bat-toe-sai the man slayer"
3> several character's names are different- Kaoru is Kori, they dropped the last 'n' in Kenshin, Yahiko is Yoshi (?!)... who knows what they'd changed Sanosuke to.
That, and all the dubbed sounds too passive. In the first episode alone, at the beginning, Kaoru was asking Kenshin to stop- not demanding. [would you ask someone suspected of slaughtering police to identify themselves?]
if whatever this version is, slaughters Sanosuke's name and va, i'm going to stop watching this- and go back to the version I own.
Seriously, Yahiko doesn't look like a Yoshi... f*** that.
>edit< Yea, Sanosuke's VA in this version isn't Lex Lang... hell, it sounds like Kenshin's VA. Honestly, this is more of a turn off- this VA makes Sano sound like a philosophic fighter, rather than a brawler... i'm done with whatever version this is...

Just started watching Attack on Titan last night. Very very entertaining so far. Just finished episode 5, which can politely be described as a "cliffhanger". Can't WAIT to get home from work

I feel very pessimistic when it comes to anime. I feel like a grumpy old man when I talk about shows I've seen.
When he was eaten.
Apart from that I haven't found anything interesting in the show.
I did watch the first two episodes of Monogatari: Second Season.
I assume we won't get to see Araragi. Which is too bad. And Hitagi cut her hair. which makes me sooo sad. Focus on Hanekawa I like though.

Not gonna lie, I think Shingeki is a bit overhyped, but I have enjoyed it. When the show started to get weird is when it kinda started to lose my interest a little bit. Like when it first started I had Shingeki as a 10 then around episode 7 or so it became an 8.
Actually managed to watch a lot of anime over the last couple of weeks, I actually really liked a Certain Magical Index and a Certain Scientific Railgun.
Hoping for a season 3 for both.

It gets weirder, that's all I'll say. It kind of forced me to read the manga which is rare for me.
I think the setting and overall atmosphere of this anime was set up extremely well. I actually like this anime so much so that I'm forcing a friend to watch it who has never watched an anime before. He already texted me asking if all intros were "this funny".
Just watched Ghost in the Shell:ARISE, I liked it alot though I miss the eye candy Motoko from Stand Alone Complex. Also for those who liked Working, check out Servant x Service, more comedy from the creator of Working but this one is about governmental workers.

Attack on Titan is definitely overhyped but I am moderately enjoying it. I get a guilty pleasure feeling but it has nice cliffhangers.
I just have this severe disappointment that they didn't have the balls to ACTUALLY kill off the main character. You want to make this anime stand out? That's a pretty damn good way to do it. It would have been the biggest Red Herring since the first three episodes of Madoka. As it is, I'm on episode 13.5 now, and the pacing has ground to a near halt, a damn shame in a show that was really delivering on that aspect not too long ago.

And have the secondary characters give up all hope and do nothing? I don't think that'd work well. Watch gurren lagann if you want that.

"Virtue, Jacques, is an excellent thing. Both good people and wicked people speak highly of it..."
Exactly. It would have been a fascinating way to approach the story, and one which would have been very doable. Using his martyrdom as a springboard to propel the others to rise and better themselves would have been far more interesting than the approach they took imo. They could have highlighted on all the other character's weaknesses and used Eren's death to inspire them all to overcome those weaknesses. Instead we get something that ends up feeling far more generic.
Plus with regard to the Gurren Lagann thing, maybe I was the only one who felt this way, but I never saw Kamina as the main character. Simon was the one who set the whole thing in motion, but was a weak individual where as Kamina was confident and determined to drive and better Simon despite his apparent weakness. Kamina's death was tragic, but ultimately necessary for Simon's growth (like Gandalf in LotR, or Brom in Eragon)

That's not a main character though. It's just a cast of primary characters.
Sure, but it largely has the the same effect (unpredictability, characters rallying around his death). We were (or at least I was) emotionally invested in Ned by the end of season one and when he was executed I got this "anything goes" feeling where I probably wasn't going to be able to accurately predict the rest of the story. The main knock I'm hearing on AoT is that it's becoming too generic which I equate with being too predictable. I've caught up with the manga and although I'm not totally surprised, boy am I entertained.
Woah there's a lot of spoilers in the more recent posts. It would be nice if people put some kind of hint as to what series their spoilers are going to spoil. Especially if your post is nothing but spoilers.

Index had a season 2?
An unrelated question: Does your anime ever look like the attached picture when viewing online? Is this normal? If not, does anyone know how to fix it?

Darth Vader is Luke's Father!
Gollum is a hobbit who was corrupted by the ring!

My gosh, you're right! I didn't know about it since the only English company to license it is in Australia. I wonder why it hasn't been licensed by any of the American companies.

I just caught up on Railgun II and decided to look into it again. Funimation has the copyright notice for Index II on their Index I page, but there's been no announcement yet. I wonder why.
