It's been kind of quiet in here? I'd like to get this clan a bit more active again. I posted the quested a few pages ago about the clan tournament for the summer, but no one really discussed the matter further. Is this something we want to do still, or are we going to be waiting until winter for another one?
Oh, and then there is Theros. From a design standpoint, this is the block I have been waiting for for a bout 10 years. I am, needless to say, excited.
Noticed that, but I didn't have much to talk about other than bringing up Path of Exile again.
I'm a fan of doing another tournament but I recall some contention as to what client could be used. Cockatrice got a C&D and MWS hasn't been a supported program in ages.
I am very curious to see what comes from the 'god' cycle of Theros. Also, Sphere of Safety will probably be a real card with an enchantment-themed set.
I'm liking this one. I'm also sure I can find some things and take photos or something. I'll get brainstorming on this.
As for me, its not Path of Exile, but rather ranting about how cruddy my current D&D group is. My DM is somewhat decent at his best, not stellar or even good for that matter. I dunno how many of you guys play, but let me explain my aggravation with this crew. In our three hour session, our crew accomplished the following: Spent 10 minutes making Doctor Who references to the statues in the barrow, talked about how much McDonalds pays for a case of bacon (4 of the 6 of us work at McDonalds), killed four monsters, I swung my sword 3 times and rolled a dice 5 times, played Duels of the Planeswalkers on my Kindle while our Cleric spent 15 minutes (i timed it!) looking up rules to control four skeletons with 7 hit points each so she could have them fight each other, completely ignoring the fact that me and the other melee fighter could kill them with minimum damage. Needless to say, I need a better crew....
And it arrived today. Apparently SCG has these on their buy list at $350 a box...
To be fair, it is a cool box.
Man those are so cool. I wouldn't pay an extraordinary amount for them however, but they would look neat in my collection.
So... It looks like I'll be playing my first standard tournament this Friday since over a year ago? Give or take. I've been racking up store credit there so I can essentially play for free whenever I want. Mostly limited and Modern, but if I actually like the standard there I might continue to do that.
The last 5 tournaments I've gone to, if there were 50+ people, I've gotten top 8, if there were less than that, I've gotten top 4. On a bit of a streak

Had the same problem with my GM(Pathfinder). The rest of us at the table played a mini master tournament in the time he spent bartering with 1 other player. didn't roll once all night and we play about the same as you. Decided to start playing my own with a few friends. Gotten to level 3 in 2 sessions. I like to push forward. Oh also I made an intelligent item for our tank (threw a deck of many things at them and she flipped intelligent item). It is a set of gauntlets called Gurdy(right) and Lemnix(Left). They talk, but it's not telepathy like most intelligent items. They use her hands to make puppets. Picture Labyrinth when she fell in the pit of hands. Gurdy is retarded and lemnix is proper. So now she randomly drops her weapon and starts using her hand like a ventriloquist while Gurdy shouts obscenities.
On another note lost internet and not sure when I will get it back. I'm at Subway right now waiting for my girlfriend to get out of work. not sure when I'll be back on.

Oh my, that is funny. You should have made them cursed items so that they could talk whenever they wanted and the player would have to make a save or something to keep the hands silent. Imagine a character making a strength check or something to keep the puppets mouth shut.

She rolls a d100. 0-50 they do nothing. Then the top half is split up into random things. She started swearing at a guard the other day. Imagine this huge fighter heavily armored walking up to a guard singing and shouting profanities at him, all the while moving her hand in time to the song. And it's even worse when the two hands start talking to each other in public. The story behind them is that they are not actually gloves but people cursed into the form of gauntlets. They were siblings Lemnix a paladin and Gurdy a bard/thief. I have two other people role play them. I'm not really big on talking to myself that much.
Anyone have some originals that would fit? If not, I'll just get to scouring the internet.
Well, that was quick. I'll see what I can do. Wasn't even online for a couple days. Spent the weekend at various friends houses for birthday parties and such.
I'm actually disappointed in FTV20. Things like choosing Wall of Blossoms over Survival of the Fittest is enough of a reason to hate this freaking reserved list.

I agree FTV20 is very disappointing if you were looking for value cards. And it's not just the reserve list. The lack of necropotence, and tinker makes me think that a card printed in other FTV put certain cards out of consideration.
I'm actually excited for Chainer's edict though, since Chainer is one of my favorite cards/magic characters, so its a treat to get new artwork featuring him.
Was Korlash really that good? He seems like a gloried nightmare to me.

Me too. He's actually my Mono Black commander at the moment. I'm not actually playing his Edict, but I might have to now that it has some cool art.
Was Korlash really that good? He seems like a gloried nightmare to me.
Maybe not THAT good, but he did lead the charge for a MBC control deck back in TSP/LRW standard. He regenerated, got Leechriden Swamps and carried a Hammer very well. Probably not one of the best, but MBC was good back then and he was there.
So in other news, its sad to say, but the Izzet are retired. The Triple Alliance is now down one member.

Nightmare doesn't jump you from 4 to 8 mana in a turn. He happens to be one of my favorite cards ever, but it's of note that he was in T2 with Grim Harvest.

This is pretty surprising. They always seemed to be really active in the past. Wonder what happened?
Thinking about it, this thread has slowed down considerably.
Well, submitted some stuff for the clan contest before the deadline. Apparently only one other clan has submitted so far, so there's an extension. Didn't have any original work for bonus points, but I got to make an art swap for Ihsan's Shade as the legendary creature.
Hey clan mono-black I'd be interested in joining your clan. As part of the membership requirements Here's my first ever legacy deck, it being a pox deck of course.
The Deck of course won by destroying the opponent's hands then stalling with Lily until I draw either a factory or the rack. I had pretty good success with the deck, and it was fun to play

About the deck what dose salvage accomplish? other than this looks good.

It's a sacable land drop if he needs it. I play pox as well and getting the second or third swamp after sacing your lands to a smallpox can be rough.

My question is this: why does your list run blackmail? That seems like a little too much discard. I'd run some more removal in its place. Also have you tried shrieking affliction? It's a little different than the rack, but using both of them makes the list better against surgical extraction effects. Just my 2 cents.

Welcome coolkid!
Blackmail is an interesting card, at times it turns into to much discard but at other times it's just the right amount. As for affliction I could run some of them instead of maybe blackmail. The only problem I find is that while it is a good draw late game early game if I draw too many Racks/Afflictions I could be in trouble.
Thinking about it, this thread has slowed down considerably.
Don't worry, I'll be back soon to fill the thread up with my mindless jibber jabber I pass off as magic related. Just been so busy with work, taking a week to go home to help the family out, and all around being a senior at my university.
I've also been routing out a new run for FFX... which is a lot of thinking power I would normally delegate to magic. But with HD coming out and the possibility of optional scene skips, it could take OVER AN HOUR off the the speed run. The current world record is 10:32:07, which is single segment, so that time off would be HUGE. Funny thing is the same guy holds the record for segmented as well.
My personal record is about 13 hours but i wasn't actively routing, just wanted to play the game fast one day. With me actually trying i could see getting 10:30 which would be awesome, but right now my goal is to simply break 11 hours and 30 minutes.
I've also been working on segmented (basically saving and trying parts over and over again until it is PERFECT) which could be fun, but most people do RTA (real time attack) now.
Anyway, that is an update on me... because i'm sure you all were wondering... <3

I pre-ordered my copy of 10 HD already, and I'm so psyched about it. Mt old copy basically is all worn and torn so this is like crazy good for me.

Another clan contest is up. Looks like it could be a super quick one, though bonus points if we have any artists in the house with a backlog of sketches.

Saw those SDCC Planeswalker boxes posted on eBay and picked one up for $235 shipped. Now it looks they're all $350+ and climbing.

It's mainly Jace, plus a bunch of other (not as valuable but still awesome) cards.
I cooked up a fun thought experiment: do the same thing, but black cards only (because, you know, we're CMB :p)
So, what do you guys think?
Special runner-up list:
I'm actually disappointed in FTV20. Things like choosing Wall of Blossoms over Survival of the Fittest is enough of a reason to hate this freaking reserved list.
As for the FTV 20 Black, I can concur, except two other HMs, I would include are Korlash, Heir to Blackblade and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Its a shame they had to compete with Damnation's slot.
