It seems like changing "all slivers" to " slivers you control" is just a cheap/lazy way to reprint a bunch of cards with out them actually being reprint. Pretty much every sliver spoiled card has already been printed, they just changed it from 'all' to 'you control'.
FWIW I don't like the new humanoid look either but that dislike is independent of what I feel is just a poor core set bunch of reprints.
I think if they go ahead with the artwork of these they will see a boom in the alteration artwork, just to change the artwork back to the ones we know and love.
I...erm, a friend of mine really likes the new Sliver design. I totally don't. Pshh. But "my friend" thinks they're pretty cool looking, even if it's a total deviation from previous designs.

We can get over the art one way or another. For me, I plan on just pretending there are tiny old style sliver inside these humanoid ones controlling them.
As for lazy tribal theme with the replacement of "all" with "You control" it is a bit of a different story. Honestly this is not true at least as far as I can see. If you played a new sliver deck versus and old style, which do you think would win? If you said new then you would be right, because the old style help the new while the new act like stuck up little kids that won't share. With the sliver ability, they have sewn up one of the major holes in that no longer is it possible for you opponent to use slivers against slivers. But then again like a lot of cards in spoilers, we will realize a cards true value only after the price goes up.
I get it now, the new artwork is a design cue that tells people that these new slivers only affect their own slivers, while the sickle shaped slivers affect every sliver. Do you know how confusing it would be if they made the sickle shaped slivers and everybody thought they affected every sliver on the board? I sure would be confused.
This is the new MTG. Not one single new card will affect both sides of the field. Such cards would be too rare.
dont get me wrong i do like that they kinda fixed/ or totally ruined the fun of playing emperor with with two other hivemates and just overloading the other sides face with the all silver YOU control. Tbh is like awwwww no more sharing is caring and even hivestone is in the dark for the people who play against the new hive...... borglings ... haha borglings they must assimilate to survive. Thats it !!!they had trekies think of the new slivers
It doesn't matter if they're cool looking. Strip the subtype away and by merely looking at the artwork you wouldn't find out that it is a Sliver. Depending on which card you would look at, you would say it is a treefolk, a creature from Mirrodin, a wannabe predator, a human weirdo etc.
What was unique about Slivers was the similarity, the sameness, it was their identity! That flavor doesn't exist anymore.
The only sliver from the new generation that is acceptable is Blur Sliver. The rest are Changelings that mistakenly were names Slivers.
Actually thinking of that, Changelings were even more diverse then the Slivers, they were humanoid, bird, moose and many others, but still was alway recognizable. Even though shapeshifters are supposed to look more different from each other then different evolutionaty branches of one spices.
I don't get what the big deal is. Actually, I take that back; we're Magic players, and we'll complain about anything. I think these new slivers look very cool, however I am considering having them altered to look like the rest of the slivers in my Sliver King deck. Mainly because my OCD would go beserk if I had six classic-look slivers on the board and dropped one of the new ones on the table.
These slivers are not from Rath or Dominara, and have thus been subject to different evolutionary stimulus. We don't know much about Shandalar itself, so it's hard to tell though.
On an entirely different note, as much as I want a new Sliver Legend, it seems unlikely that we'd get a WUBRG one in a core set, at least in my opinion. But something in me cringes at the thought of a Sliver legend that is less than five colors.
Other thoughts:
-These slivers are more humanoid, so there's more of an excuse to print a zombie sliver.
-As a lot of people have said, it's about time we get a hexproof sliver. Quick rules question, what would happen to my slivers if I had Crystalline Sliver and the theoretical hexproof sliver on the board at the same time?
-We could get a centaur sliver with horsemanship! This was 100% a joke.
-We still need a flying sliver among the new ones.
-Wouldn't mind a deathtouchy one. Seems stoopid good and as a result, probably won't happen.
Not printing a 5 color legend would be the capstone of this trainwreck. Everything we knew about slivers has already been discarded anyways, so they may as well go all out.

Wait, so you mean you don't understand why people are upset, but you yourself want the art to be different?

Old enough to know better, much too young to care.
The Hive is returning! And by hive we mean.... lol. Does the creative team know what a hive is? Is this a hive of treefolk giants, plus robots, plus dreadlock-men, etc.? This may be the stupidest use of the word "hive" in any science fiction/fantasy setting, of all time.
Indeed: As the man says,Visually and in terms of mystique, Slivers are done. An iconic creature type ends. Not with a bang, but with a click, a chitter, the crack and snap of flesh hardening into more of the same.
"A rich man thinks all other people are rich, and an intelligent man thinks all other people are similarly gifted. Both are always terribly shocked when they discover the truth of the world. You, my dear brother, are a pious man." - Strahd von Zarovich
Hang on, let's not blame the artists who just paint what they're told to, blame those who tell them what to paint.

Just because they made them better/more powerful does not mean it still wasn't lazy. Slivers have been different in other lords because of the fact they pumped/affected all slivers. It was great fun to drop a plague sliver and watch it wreck your opponent. Previously in sliver v sliver you had to think, how much does this boost me team v my opponent? Now just drop and go. Why even bother calling them slivers? Now they can reprint every previous sliver but it's 'new' and not a reprint. What a marketing boon!

I quoted myself and bolded the part that answered your question. Reading is tech.
Two things are true beyond the question of liking or disliking the look of the new "slivers":
1. The art of these new "slivers" shares almost nothing with the visual design that slivers had for almost 15 years (and over three different blocks).
2. Using art that has almost nothing in common with the visual design of a unique, iconic and recognizable species is a big mistake.

Well, eusociality does show up in some surprising critters. Naked mole rats and Damaraland mole rats definitely aren't the first thing you'd think of when talking about a hive.

The wedding is over. Now it's time for the honeymoon.
Seriously, if you're comparing the Sliver redesign to Diablo 3, you're blowing this WAAAAAAAAAAY out of proportion. The fact that there are so many of us who are indifferent to, are defending, or openly like the new design shows that. "Eternally remembered as aberration"? Hardly. Further down the line, will there still be a fair-size portion of the community who vehemently dislikes the Sliver redesign? Probably. Will the redesign eventually be accepted by most of the community? Most likely. Will Slivers return again after this? Almost certainly. Will they have this same redesign? Almost as certain.
There many people who play and defend D3 as well. There's 4 million people a month on D3, that's quite a decent number.
My point is, if there's a fair size part of the community who vehemently dislikes a change, the change is bad. The mere fact that we 're discussing this after so many days proves how bad the change was. A product that doesn't have 95% good reception is just bad and i'm pretty sure more then 5% of the player base dislike the new slivers.

You mean, just like ALL THE OLD LORDS?! What a shocker. The tribe-o-lords gets a new iteration, and *gasp* try got updated EXACTLY THE SAME WAY other lords did! Heart attacks and nerd rage everywhere. Seriously. The ONLY leg complainers have on this is the art, and that is blatantly subjective anyway.
