To be fair, he's not arguing for the law to be ambiguous. He is arguing for it not to be(and the implementation of it was not ambiguous..it was so unambiguous as to be obviously beyond it's original intention).
It was probably a good idea in principle, that just got taken way too far by overzealous bureaucrats, and is now a monstrosity. You know, like HoA's. And unions.

i agree, the thing is though everyone knows what they law is for. it isn't for kids trying to run a lemonade stand. when the city does this garbage it only makes them look stupid, petty and all out dumb.
that officer should have been dragged into the cheifs office and told to stop being a moron and go get some real criminals.
he should then have been made to write a letter of apology to the girls for being an idiot.
next time just maybe next time he will use his head when it comes to enforcing a law.
as a side note i was refering to the part where he said that
I don't like enforcement of the laws being up to the whims of cops. It hasn't worked out well in the past.
yet he is argueing hand over fist for it here.

No I am not, I am saying the cops did their jobs and enforced the law without question. It wasn't a whim, it was them doing what they are supposed to do. Hence I keep saying, if you don't like the law, have it changed.
Apparently its totally cool to these people that support the laws being applied in a case by case basis.
In that case here is a hypothetical, a guy steals a loaf of bread to feed his family who is starving. A cop catches him just after he exits the store.
Should the cop prosecute the guy?
I mean he had a noble cause right? Therefore the cop should be lenient.
Apparently to the people supporting these 3 girls as long as you are a kid some laws do not apply. If a 45 year old man got shut down for trying to sell lemonade on the same corner, I bet 99% of the people in this thread that have called the law "ridiculous" would be on the side of the cops.

Well then prepare to be accosted by a ton of merchant as you walk down the street then.
I went to Cancun once and I swear I had about 20 people shouting for me to buy something anytime I was on a semi-popular street.
It got really really really ****ing annoying and I am glad I live in a country where I can stroll down a popular street for pedestrians, and not have 25 vendors all trying to get me to come look at their inventory.
These laws are to prevent every guy that wants to sell something from opening up shop on any street he damn well pleases.
yes it was. those girls were hurting no one. they weren't doing anything wrong. some cop with an ax to grind that day instead of actually catching some real bad guys decided to pick on a bunch of girls.
yea that showed him. too bad it backfired and now those girls are going to make more money at the water park in 2 hours selling than they could have at their street cornor on their own property.
PS you never answered my question why are you avoiding it. did you ever do work for money when you were a kid? if so why did you not turn yourself in for breaking the law?
your brother picking up cans broke the law by not having hazmat license, waste disposal licensing and several other requirements for the collection, transportation of garbage.
see how outragious your claims are(probably not).
In that case here is a hypothetical, a guy steals a loaf of bread
so now we are comparing stealing to a lemonade stand? are you serious?
If a 45 year old man got shut down for trying to sell lemonade on the same corner, I bet 99% of the people in this thread that have called the law "ridiculous" would be on the side of the cops.
now we are comparing 45 years old with more skills and better ways to get a job to 14 year olds.
when does this stuff end. right now i have to sit back and laugh it is just to funny.
i hope none of you pay your kids money for doing chores around the house. that is a business and a violation of the law. whether it be cleaning and or mowing the grass.
These laws are to prevent every guy that wants to sell something from opening up shop on any street he damn well pleases.
yea adults these are kids on their own property not out in public. they are on private property.
yes it was. those girls were hurting no one. they weren't doing anything wrong. some cop with an ax to grind that day instead of actually catching some real bad guys decided to pick on a bunch of girls.
yea that showed him. too bad it backfired and now those girls are going to make more money at the water park in 2 hours selling than they could have at their street cornor on their own property.
Backfired? They are no longer breaking the law so it doesn't sound like anything backfired.
PS you never answered my question why are you avoiding it. did you ever do work for money when you were a kid? if so why did you not turn yourself in for breaking the law?
I did chores for money, like when my sister needed her fence painted, I did it, that isn't against the law.
your brother picking up cans broke the law by not having hazmat license, waste disposal licensing and several other requirements for the collection, transportation of garbage.
Not likely since you can volunteer with any county to do the same thing on many highways. Also, those probably weren't regulations 25 years ago.
And no, paying kids for chores is not a business. According to the government it is a gift unless it is over $13,000 a year per person. But, if you really want to, you can set up a business and pay all the fees that entails and then you get to write off all the allowances you give your kids, but then you have to keep time logs for their work so it is a bit of a hassle.
i bet there are more germs on that door handle you just touched or better yet the ice maker that you just got ice out of than what those little girls had in their lemonade.
the whole clean thing is pure BS.
Yes, I that's why there happens to be a convenient little hand gel dispenser next to the the door...and I seem to see this more often now
The whole clean deal in America is a irrational fear that is perpetuated by the media. It is a vicious cycle that starts with one incident that leads to widespread attention, increased security and when that security gets breached in another incident it leads to more media coverage followed by more security increase until you get to a point where you need a license to sell lemonade
edit your second sentence to the whole clean thing that appears in the media is BS
The law prevents some guy from selling watches right outside your house.
I mean this is the same god damn ****ing scenario and try to deflect it all you want you know it is.
The law applies to everyone it does not look at who the law breaker is and then change its mind.
I also find it funny when people use the whole "cop had a bad day excuse or should be catching real criminals" such a ****ing cliche load of bull****.
By that logic a cop should never pull anyone over for 10-20 MPH speeding because that is just a minor violation of the law who cares. He should be sitting around waiting for the drunk drivers and people going 25+ MPH over the speed limit instead.
Like some guy got away with dealing crack cocaine on the same corner while the cop was busy with the 3 girls.
I did chores for money, like when my sister needed her fence painted, I did it, that isn't against the law.
do you have a business license to clean? did you have a painters license to paint the fence? did you buy insurance in case something happened to her property and or her neighbors property? if not then you broke the law. you are in violation of the law.
you are running a business for the sole purpose of monitary gain. according to you it is against the law.
And no, paying kids for chores is not a business.
yes it is they are providing work for monitary gain that is a business. you are the one setting the definition i am just applying them as you put it.
Not likely since you can volunteer with any county to do the same thing on many highways.

no it isn't. these girls were not going door to door asking people to buy lemonade. they were at a stand in their own front yard with a sign not bothering anyone except those that wanted to buy one.
there was some girls doing that in my neighborhood and if i had 50 cents i would have bought some from them.

easily argued just ask the judge or anyone else in the court room if they ever mowed grass as a teenager to turn money (i bet they did). then say well you broke the law.
these laws are suppose to try and protect from scabs and other such things. not kids trying to raise summer money by mowing a neighbors yard.
Its not as simple as that, but I do understand what you are saying. Like I have said, I have talked with a lawyer and there is a very good possibility my son will lose his working privilege until he is 18. The laws are only 5-7 years old so to mention something the judge did 30 or more years ago will fall on deaf ears.
The thing that makes me mad is the guy who turned him in could have just as easily offered my son a job cutting grass, but he doesnt want to go thru the hassel of the paper work for the permits. He felt it would just be better to eliminate the competition and take over the area. Of course at an increased price.
The state government plus the economy is making people do some very strange things.

Doing chores for money is not a business, it is doing work and then being gifted money in response. At least according to the government. If you can't tell the difference between receiving money from immediate family and complete strangers than God help you.

You are the most boring person to argue with in the entire debate thread, because you never change your mind no matter what is brought against you.

You want the law applied in one case but not the other that is discrimination in its most blatant ****ing form my god.

I could actually see if this exception is commonly allowed for children, for people to start using children as the peddlers on the side of streets. But officer, I was selling the cheap knock off watches to pay for the water park.

That is why we have a thing called a brain, and a thing called common sense. it helps us to reach a logical and rational conclusion about a situation to see if it is violating the intent of the law.

The problem with laws is that once you start making exceptions, it breeds lawlessness. If you don't like it, then work towards changing the law.
Fail troll is fail. Working a lemonade stand to go the water park is not going to breed lawlessness. I don't care what your argument is. You're trolling on purpose just to be an ass about it.
This. If they had the permits, it would be fine. There are reasons permits exist.
Fail troll is fail. Blindly defending the law just because it's the law is the greatest example of being a sheep. Any decent human being can see this is an unjust execution of the law in question.
As much as you want to deny it as truth, selling lemonade to get to the water park is FAR different that selling old watches for a profit.
You people are missing the point. It's not as if the laws on the books say "No lemonade stands." The rules are likely that way to stop illegal peddling on streets and various other shady dealings.
Then they should use the law to stop shady dealings and peddling on the street. Not bullying little girls into closing lemonade stands.

Not trolling, I just don't believe that cops should ever have the ability to question enforcing a law or not. The answer is simple, change the law to allow it. It is basic American Civics 101.

No reason to change the law. lets use are heads and brains. laws are based on intent not absolute. we give cops this ability to determine intent to provide better safety for the public.
i got caught speeding one day. i was speeding i admitted to it. i was running a late for work and trying to get there on time.
the cop according to you should have thrown the book at me. he didn't because i was honest he left me off with a very strict warning.
we give cops that ability of intent as to perform better at their jobs otherwise it would look like the episode of andy griffith where barny arrested the whole town.
LMAO that is pefectly it. this reminds me of that episode so much. he arrested the whole town he had them all dead to rights and he was perfectly correct. unfortuantly he left out one thing. common sense.
these girls were not a public danger. they were not stopping and harassing people or anything else. they were simply trying to make a little cash for summer.
i don't know any kid that hasn't done that when they were younger, and all the people so up in arms about what they did more than likely did the same thing when you were younger.
so yea trolls fail hard.

Fail troll is fail. Working a lemonade stand to go the water park is not going to breed lawlessness. I don't care what your argument is. You're trolling on purpose just to be an ass about it.
Just trolls. They have no legs to stand on.
