Alrigh', here's the wax I've been listening to for a while:
CLASSIC - Wutang Clan
- House of Pain
- De La Soul
- Beastie Boys
- Bloodhound Gang
UNDERGROUND HIP-HOP
- Abstract Rude
- Aceyalone
- Aesop Rock
- Atmosphere
- Awol One
- Dr. Octagon/Kool Keith/The Black Elvis
- Hieroglyphics
- Murs
- People Under the Stairs
- Sage Francis
- Slug
- The Grouch
UNIQUE
- Marz (this is a weird one, being he used to be part of Ministry (the classic industrial group), so Marz is a strange mix of industrial and hip-hop
I just want to know when hip-hop is going to get good again. Seriously, there's nothing good comin' out... I mostly listen to underground, where creativity & strong message is heard. For example: "your Glass House" by Atmosphere:
Hip-hop is still pretty good. The guys you loved 10, 20 years ago are still going at it. And I am still totally satisfied listening to albums that came out that long ago.
Maybe you're just not looking hard enough at where the genre is right now. Zelderex just listed some pretty good guys out there right now. I enjoy a lot of the new stuff coming out too.
About Frox: for nearly 10 years, Frox has been helping women look good and feel great in easy-fit, mix-and-match, and work-to-weekend with just a few pieces by helping them make the right choices when it comes to clothing and accessories.

This. Nas has a new album out, Kanye West is better than ever, Jay-Z has totally stopped caring about what people think or expect, Captain Murphy and Death Grips are pushing the limits on what "Hip-Hop," means, Ab-Soul is making modern west-coast that's political and personal at the same time, similar story for Brother Ali (just underground), Danny Brown is just fun, and Killer Mike is making classic raps over modern beats (think Southern Chuck D over industrial Madlib, and you have an idea). Even most of the living members of Wu-Tang are still going at it.
Myka Nyne has been putting out a lot of good music. He has been around a long time. Started ghost writting for NWA, helped Bone thugs in harmony get started. He is a member of freestyle fellowship, haiku d'etat and magic heart genies. He is considered one of the fathers of the L.A. rap scene and he just put out three more albums in the last year. I am just putting this out there for anyone that wants to try something new.

23 was alright, not bad. Bimmer (the snippet at the end) was really good though.
The K.Flay is pretty good. Right about as good as Eyes Shut, probably better. In terms of lyrics and non-rapped vocals, it's a lot more developed than her other stuff, just generally more personal, which- to me- means she's stopped just making internet music. Her rapping is pretty much the same as ever though, and a lot of the production kinda bores me. "Fleas Navidad" would've been my favorite song on a lot of her other tapes, but here, I'm actually checking to make sure I didn't start playing "I stopped caring in '96'" by accident.
I'm nitpicking though. Production is consistent, the hooks work, when she raps, she raps well, and all three of the features are phenomenal (probably Grieves' only verse that stands up to 'Light Speed'). Good stuff, and worth it if only for the cover.
I don't know, I thought 23 was horrible. Bimmer was good though. Tyler has to step his game way up cause he got beat at his own game. Captain Murphy stepped the be offensive for no reason game up to levels that I just don't think he can reach.

Flying Lotus plays Tyler's game so hard that everyone thought Captain Murphy was Tyler. That's just how upped the ante is. Looking forward to new Earl though.
So...
I think it's time we talked about Lil B. Love him? Hate him? Mindlessly killing rap, or dynamo of positive input into a very negative world?
Personally, I like him more every day. This Song right here sealed it for me, I'm firmly of the belief that he's a talented guy who doesn't have any kind of a filter, and I have so much respect for that. Dude wrote a narrative that doesn't tell the listener what to think about it, but gives a window into his most personal motivations- without knowing how to pronounce Grandeur. It's like an Idiot Savant who's half Hemingway and half self-help guru, or half Whitman and half Hallmark.
I'm a eclectic music fan and pretty much listen to what my mood sees fit. I've been appreciating hip hop and rap music the older I get. A taste of what I like...
Ces Cru
Nas
Hyro Da Hero
Krizz Kaliko
Tech N9ne
Everlast
La Coka Nostra
House of Pain
Outkast
Prozak
Eminem
There is a lot more I listen to but I am not going to name drop 100+ artists. I have my guilty pleasures like anyone else, though. I am a huge Hollywood Undead fan despite how terrible most of their songs can be.
A nice Ces Cru song for anyone who hasn't heard of them.
Strange Music is an independent label founded by rapper, Tech N9ne. It contains a variety of hip hop acts that vary in styles. I'm not a fan of all the artists on the label but I do enjoy most of them. They include:
Big Scoob
Brotha Lynch Hung
Ces Cru (Ubiquitous and Godemis)
Jay Rock
Krizz Kaliko
Kutt Calhoun
¡Mayday!
Stevie Stone
Prozak
Rittz

I think I remember you ****ting all over me somewhere in this forum for me liking Lil B. Long live Based God. Also, He's a beacon of positivity in a negative world.#rare #raw #based.
Edit: The reason that Lil B gets all the hate, is because he isn't consistent. Motivation, Illusions of Granduer, and a large portion of the God's Father mixtape is really strong and really positive. But then you have **** like Wonton Soup, Evryone kno, ect where that's the **** that people hear. They hear some lame lyrics with a bad/nonexistent flow and hate him without realizing that's just him ****ing around.

I take full fault. Lil B is the most bizarre deconstruction of mainstream rap I have ever seen. He makes a mixture of original, effortless and positive music, as well as satirical terrible ****- such as Wonton Soup. And yet people listen to **** like Wonton Soup, thinking it's a "real" song. I think the biggest obstacle to liking Lil B is realizing that he doesn't take himself seriously and not everything represents him as an artist- which is really, really rare in the internet age.
Yeah, I can't figure out Lil B. His fanbase is ridiculous though and that's one of the main reasons I tolerate him. Stuff like Wonton Soup pisses me off, and I'll be honest, the majority of his music is ****ing horrible, but I still think the whole "thank you based god" thing is hilarious.
You wouldn't catch me dead listening to Lil B for fun though. I would never put him on because I'm in the mood for some Lil B.

You'd be amazed. He actually has a handful of decent songs. I mean, relative to his collection (probably upward of 1,000 songs by now, even I won't try and delve into most of that), the good music is probably less than 1%, but there's still probably two normal-human-being album's worth of good music.
I'm pretty sure that his bad stuff is deliberate, in his interviews he lets on that he's a smart cat with varied taste in music, and a taste for modernist and postmodern poetry.
Pro Era is all about the Lyricism.
Blu is underground, probably along the lines you're looking for.
Kendrick Lamar is (usually) really good about emphasizing lyrics and meaning.
Macklemore makes really good music, and with pretty much one exception (Thrift Shop), he's an underground artist with conscious tendencies.

Really? More post-mortem "New" stuff?
Apparently it was some unreleased material that was sitting around. Not sure about the full-story, either way, new DILLA.
