I think the idea of her being weak spiritually was, probably, initially to just make them very different people. Not talking to Aang early is a smart move. You want people to give Korra a chance and reminding people of the previous main character is not going to make her more likable. You never see the companions in Dr. Who talk about the old way he looked (aside from the first episode with tennent, where him regenerating is a plot point as its introduced to new fans. This is also why Matt Smith has all new companions/they don't talk to the old ones)
Oh, and easy solutions to problems are not exactly good drama. Also, I'm wondering why she didn't reflexively enter the avatar state this ep.
As I understand it, the creators are writing every episode in the series and that there will be no filler. Filler won't make sense so much with the show being set in a city as opposed to the "random encounter" nature of some of the weaker episodes in TLA (The lazy/tightass tribes, for example)

The avatar thing, probably spiritual weakness or she had a direct out that didn't trigger it. Equally it seems that they want to keep the power level low for now while upping the power level of the anti-benders and making Amon look like the strongest and eventually careen into the more powerful abilities later in the season.
My presumption is when she can airbend is when she'll be able to talk to Anng and enter the avatar state, which seems to be a number of episodes off. Equally they're going to have to do the "let's see what happened to everyone we all knew."
The key seems to be what Amon talked about him becoming the new balancer in the system, which probably means the faceless spirit might be the new big bad with Amon as the tool.

Ambition must be made to counteract ambition.
Individualities may form communities, but it is institutions alone that can create a nation.
Nothing succeeds like the appearance of success.
Here is my principle: Taxes shall be levied according to ability to pay. That is the only American principle.
Very good episode! I love the whole "anti-bending" bad guy. At first I was skeptical, because how could Guy 1 beat Guy 2 if Guy 1 and Guy 2 are the same but Guy 2 CAN ALSO SHOOT LIGHTNING! They have seemed to remedy this though by using the chi-blockers and the "soul bending" power. Can't wait to see how the series goes on.
One thing that does bother me though is how does Tenzin have a flying Bison?
Actually quite good, i just rewatched all the episodes from the first series over the last few days after watching the 3 episodes released. I wish they'd do more throwbacks to the original series though

Whats wrong with voicing my opinion? Some one decided to be a jerk for no reason. Get out of here if you want to start things over nothing. I know my opinion is judged from only 2 episodes. So what? Only 2 episodes have been out. I even said I am hopeful for his character. I don't get what you get for being an absolute ass. I didn't parade on your crappy opinion and I won't waste my time telling you that you shouldn't do so in the first place.
Because you're whining. You don't like it, I don't care. We don't have to speak.

Or, they're setting up a huge red herring that Tarlock is Aman.
Perhaps, he holds a grudge against benders for not protecting the water tribes from the fire nation.
Either way, I can almost guarantee that Aman is NOT a non-bender. He's just using this to gain power a la Hitler being Austrian and not blond hair / blue eyes. There's a reason why he's wearing a mask. And that reason is we've probably already met him.
Dang I never even considered that. Interesting theory.
I do know that I'm more than a little suspicious of Mako's new love interest. Maybe it's just me, but her character feels a little too hollow at first glance. There's something wrong, I'm just not positive what yet.
The showdown at the end was pretty exciting. Amon strikes me as very very in control and I love that in a villain

I think Amon is going to assassinate Soto to financially cripple the city. (Economic warfare is lynchpin for villains like Amon.) Asami is going to have to take over the company in her fathers stead.
I think its a little more complicated than we might believe.
We still don't really know if Amon is a villain,
What has he really done thats actually, you know, bad? He took some criminals bending away. Alright. Aang did that. He's fought the "designated hero"
So far, aside from being played all scary, he seems like "MLK in a Mask"
He's quite popular with the downtrodden and he is teaching them chi blocking which is... the only skill they can reasonably learn to stop people with superpowers from... well completely overpowering them. The underground chi dojo seemed less like a terrorist camp that the FBI was raiding, and more like Shaolin Monks learning to defend themselves from the qing dynasty.
He, personally, has been spending most of his time as a speaker, rallying people to his ideas, not forcing people to do anything to help him.

The snake that got Eve to bite the apple was charismatic too. Amon is not Ozai. Ozai was a tyrant. Amon is a cult leader.
Edit: remember, in classical categorization the antagonist is someone who seeks to halt the action. Amon has continuously halted Aang's, the council's, and Korra's vision/action of Republic City. Evil or not evil, he's still the clear cut antagonist in our story and will need to be dealt with head on with our protagonist/protagonists.

Yeah I would agree...Amon is not a "villain" in the conventional sense, more like a revolutionary who is using ruthless tactics to achieve his means.

Amon is not a cult leader, Amon is a revolutionary. The way he is portrayed is a mixture of MLK and Che.
Which is an interested way to phrase it because Che's "nobility" is constantly called into question. Just because the person who is doing the action thinks it's right does not make it right. In some cases, it makes them delusional and more dangerous.
Personally I think Koh, the Face Stealer is connected to Amon. I understand their are problems with this but the mask and the whole "Took my face from me" plus the ability to take away a person's bending (which is only known it seems by Avatar's and knowledgeable spirits/creatures), and that Spirits spoke to him.
I think its a "Deal with The Devil"-ish situation. Koh stole Amon's face and told him that he could only have it back if he removed the power of the Avatar (since he has hated the Avatar's due to a particual one of the preivous ones).
Might be a bit off but you never know. Very interesting show so far.
I just wanted to forewarn anyone: there is an image circulating around with Amon with his mask off. So, if you're not into spoilers, don't snoop around the net for new info.
(if you must know, PM me and I'll tell you.)
Edit: the counter-rumor is that this image is photoshopped.
Here's hoping the Spirit world, and Spirits in general play a bigger part in the show. I'm also hoping Korra will go 'Avatar State' soon, and meet up with the inner avatars.

Just saw episode 5, mostly just more character development here. Still don't like Asami, but Bo Lin got some love, and I'm actually really starting to like his character. Additionally, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm gonna be really bummed to see pro-bending conclude. That stuff is actually rather exciting.
