I think that archiving signup threads can only be beneficial to the forum's look. But that they should only be archived after completion of the game that way people can still use them to express interest in /replace or /spectate.
As an aside, how would people feel about the soft-deleting or demarkation of sign-up threads? Right now, sign-up threads for games that have already completed do little more than clog up the forum. (Soft-deleting means more or less that the thread gets hidden to normal members)
Would direct links to soft-deleted threads still work? I know there are some games that have flavour setup in the signup threads (e.g. Ozone Underground) and would hate to have those links break.

Game-type colorings are now available when you create a new thread or when you advanced edit the first post of a thread. You should see me and game hosts changing thread prefixes to the new system over the coming week. I'm starting to consider that we'll need an additional one for sign-up threads as well.

I'm not sure if this belongs in Council or Theory, but:

I ran this by Azrael, and he seemed to think that the community can handle the load of games that we would be seeing with both the FTQ and PCQ running.
What do you guys think?
If we do keep it open, I'd like League games not to count towards current games a player is in (as if they want their performance to differ, that's on them, and our playerbase is moderately strained as far as resources go, anyway).
Also: Is there a reason some games do have the color tag prefix and some don't?

I would like to see the PCQ come back. It was fun and allowed people to have more say in the choice game.
Also I don't have a problem with League games not counting towards a persons three games. I've found with people that unless they are just starting out how much they lurk or don't or replace has little to do with the number of games the are in from 1 to 3 so I don't think adding in a "special" 4th will hurt anything.

Please don't touch the FTQ. If anything should go, it should be the PCQ. I have outlined my problems with that queue in previous posts in this thread.
I would remind you guys to make sure the League stuff does not impact the Mafia experience of non-participants, like YT.
I'm not sure I like the idea of shorting out the three-game limit, especially in league play, if it's expected to be more intense than normal.
And out of all the games we could cut, the FTQ seems like it has the best chance of filling up. If we need to cut, we should cut a different game type, unless we run out of submissions.

We run 1 Normal, 3 Basics, 4 Minis, 1 Specialty, 1 Fast-Track, and when demand dictates, 1 Player's Choice game at any given time.
Well, if it isn't the FTQ, and we don't want to be running zero Normals or Specialties, then we're looking at Basics or Minis. Cutting back on the Basics seems like a bad idea, and the PCQ is as far from a direct replacement for those as we can get. So... Minis or nowhere?
The replacement situation is still a legitimate issue, in my opinion. But, I'll freely admit that I'm not the best person to ask about that, and likely not even in the top 10.
Personally, being the most vocal (I can't think of a better word for it) of the staff re: player commitment to the league, I think something needs to go, based on the assumption that we will already have issues filling the league games with players strictly interested in playing through the season.
Basics should stay, being as they require the least amount of effort, cycle through quickly, and are most likely to bring new players to the sub. Only one normal & specialty, so they have to stay.
Either a mini, or the FTQ/PCQ, by PoE. Zinda, could you dig up/summarize the issues you/others may have with the PCQ?

I can't speak fully for Zinda here, but I think the issue of the PCQ comes down to a popularity contest. People will be more likely to vote for a setup from people they like as opposed to setups that may actually be good. There may also be the whole thing about people being cut out of great games because they are league games, and basically you have to be in the league to sign up for a game.
If it is the latter, maybe we should do what we did with Cyan's Impossible mafia. The host runs two concurrent games, one with just league members one without them. We have the hidden zone for a reason.
I also agree with Guardman here, do we really NEED to cut anything? If anything I say the league game should just take whatever spot it would normally take in the queue, with a default to the FTQ if that spot is currently full (I.E. if it would be a mini normally, it can take a Mini spot. If all 4 minis are full, it takes the FTQ spot instead, or we just have 5 minis.)

I'm sorry, but this is wrong. Non-league players CAN play in league scored games. This is why we want to take a slot. We want to make sure we have enough players to actually run it.
We're also probably taking over the PCQ and making some changes, but you'll hear about them and have a say before it gets locked in for a pre-season run. We will have a post up soon to open up more discussion on the finer details before beginning, but I can say it looks very interesting so far.

Umm. I hadn't read through the League thread until now, but I think I have an issue with this:
I believe the system we have decided on is as follows:
There will be 6 judges.
One judge will run the currently running League game.
The other 5 will score the players.
Judges and non-players can submit setups to me, and I will present them to the League with a blurb about the setup. The League players will vote on the setup they want to play the most, and the judge for that rotation will run the game.
If the League is going to be taking the place of one of the regular games (PCQ or Mini or whatever) then this would basically mean that the selected judges will get to jump the queue to host more often. It also would mean that I have the option of either not submitting to the PCQ, or submitting but letting someone else run the game that I designed, developed and wrote.
Can you guys make sure that this is addressed in the discussion before anything is locked in?
Again, this is wrong. We have this worked out already, but our secretary responsible for community relations is ill.
I'll just post the damn thing as is and we can move discussion there.
I want to assure everyone that we want the support of the community in what we decide to implement. Without community support, the league would just be a circle jerk. This is why we listen to every concern the players have, because more often than not they will catch a detail that we have missed. Unfortunately you guys have been in the dark as to what we have come up with so far. BRB with link.

I find it's difficult to see when quoted - but otherwise have no problem.

I will say that for the most part, we're discussing keeping the League games to mostly Normal level with perhaps a not-too-complex Specialty to be run at the end of the season.

We're discussing everything and running it all by the players before we implement the system. But yes, as it stands, the judges would be running games - we're not putting our own games at the front, as the players in the League will be voting for what setups they want to be run. But in order to ensure maximum League participation, as well as fairness in how the games are run, the judges are running the games and rotating out for scoring.
I want to assure everyone that we want the support of the community in what we decide to implement. Without community support, the league would just be a circle jerk. This is why we want to keep one central mouthpiece for the league judges, lol. Iso, we decided to let others host a league game so long as we have a co-host league representative present. We want to guarantee all league games will count even in the event a host disappears.
Tanarin has hit it on the head. The entire PCQ episode left a bad taste in my mouth and I genuinely wish I hadn't submitted - and this is coming from the guy who eventually won. Popularity contests (which the league contains elements of, as I have already spoken about in my objections in the league thread) really don't belong in this subforum, in my opinion, and the PCQ is nothing but a popularity contest.
If we're going to have the league, the only way forward I see is for it to run as its own game type and outside the current queues - whether it be as a replacement for the PCQ or as an addition to our "special" queues.
Any situation where a league game would run in place of a regular normal, mini or specialty is a situation that I am adamantly opposed to.

I don't think you see the PCQ the same way I do. I see it as a way for the players to choose the measuring stick by which they will be judged in the league, not as a popularity contest for host worship. It is important for the players to decide how the judging works and what games they play, otherwise the scores "won't count" because they disagreed with this or that.
If the decision is democratic, then it is legitimate.
The league games will definitely be run in place of the PCQ. If we have enough players, then there will be no need to cut any other games. We are also encouraging players on the fence about participating to go ahead and sign up for a league game and decide later if they want to be scored or not.
In addition, it gives the players a chance to have more of a say in what kind of flavor and game Mechanics they want to see in the League which, in theory, makes it fairer.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
Councilmen, Iso and I were talking last night, and we'd like to run this by you.
I would like to have my Secretary title back. Iso has agreed to this, requesting that he retain his own. He's given me notification of the changes he's made to the operation while I was out of the loop and has agreed that, if brought back, I will be the primary person handling the lists.
Are there any objections to me resuming my former position as co-secretary?
For the record, I will have the time to devote to the job. I will begin staying at home again, where there is internet, tonight.
I don't think it is but Manders misses helping out, so who am I to deny her? Besides, when things pick up with the League, I may not have so much availability as head judge and all of that. So it may preemptively be a good idea.
By the way, if anyone has any League questions, feel free to shoot me a PM.

We'd like to invite you back to participate in games at this point, Manders, but our consensus is that we should wait and move a little less precipitously about moving you back into an official, prominent position in the sub.
In no way a dig at Iso, he is doing a fine job. But I have felt for awhile now that with his own busy schedule and the amount the sub needs celaning up, that having a 2nd person on the job to help and assist would be a good idea. There is still a lot of work that can be done to make the sub a "cleaner, fresher" environment to be in. I was actually going to volunteer my own services but I knew Manders wanted it so I chose not to say anything.

If the League is going to be taking the place of one of the regular games (PCQ or Mini or whatever) then this would basically mean that the selected judges will get to jump the queue to host more often. It also would mean that I have the option of either not submitting to the PCQ, or submitting but letting someone else run the game that I designed, developed and wrote.
Can you guys make sure that this is addressed in the discussion before anything is locked in?
I'll just post the damn thing as is and we can move discussion there.
I want to assure everyone that we want the support of the community in what we decide to implement. Without community support, the league would just be a circle jerk. This is why we listen to every concern the players have, because more often than not they will catch a detail that we have missed. Unfortunately you guys have been in the dark as to what we have come up with so far. BRB with link.
Thank you, and good to hear.
I find it's difficult to see when quoted - but otherwise have no problem.
Thank you for your input - I'd like to keep both the FTQ and PCQ running, if possible.
We could drop the number of Minis...again.
The thing is, the players won't be voting for the host - they'll be voting for the setup. The judges will run the games.
I will say that for the most part, we're discussing keeping the League games to mostly Normal level with perhaps a not-too-complex Specialty to be run at the end of the season.

I have mixed feelings and will be abstaining from voting on this issue either way.
