Z, I am certainly not questioning your honor or alleging any impropriety. More slapping the back of my own head as I remember fondly what it was like having eyes like those cast in my direction...just a bit of wistful envy on my part.:)
So my Rwb burn deck screwed me over tonight. Gemstone Mine was sweet all through goldfishing, but just royally screwed me tonight and cost me 2 games directly.
I have decide if I want to drop white, or if I want to get really greedy and run city of brass. My lgs meta is full of aggro so city seems very rough.
If I was running three color burn I'd probably go with City of Brass. You're probably running Lightning Helix in there anyway, so you'll make the life back (if it matters). Having to sacrifice a land on turn 3 when you're behind is full of feels-bad-man.
LP, I'm checking your article out as well. Behind all of your swag is the brain of one of the most intelligent Magic players I've ever known. I guess that's one more thing for you to add to the wall of ego that is your Sally sig.
I can go with that. LK, you are the Mace Windu of red mages...cool, tempered logic in deliberation, but capable of just flat kicking tail when the situation warrants it.

I'd run Reflecting Pool over City of Brass most of the time. If you're fetching into a 3-colour mana base with City of Brass, then it starts getting you into awkward situations.

Reflecting Pool can get really awkward in a burn deck because 1-land hands are sometimes keepable. A one-lander with Reflecting Pool as its only land isn't keepable because it can't even produce any mana on its own.
^yep
You could get by perfectly fine with fetches and 1 of each splashed shock land, but it create problems when your hand is bump, charm, 1 fetch and a mountain. Reflecting pool doesn't really help here either.
If you are able to get both of your shocks, you don't need reflecting pool.
Any land in burn has to tap for red on turn one, if it can't, I don't want to run it. Its why I am avoiding Clifftop retreat, its going to work the majority of the time, but its an auto mulligan if it is your only land or you draw 2 of them.
@ham: I think that if you're running 3 colour Burn, luxuries such as playing on a 1-land hand go out the window. You need to have 2 land hands if you run 3 colours, just to make sure you survive colour screw and mana screw. You can scrape by playing a 1-lander in 2 colour Burn, and do reasonably well with 1 land in mono-Red Burn. Reflecting Pool is not optimal, but neither is taking 2-3 more from City of Brass. The only other feasible land is Forgotten Orchard, which is very bad in certain match-ups. It's much safer just dedicating to RB or RW instead of amalgamating the two decks.
@all: I'm playing RakDW in Modern, in preparation for the Melbourne PTQ. Decklist as follows:
The deck is quite solid. Running Rakdos Charm main makes the Affinity match-up effectively an auto-win, and also helps swing both Pod match-ups slightly closer to our favour. Being able to counter Reanimation-based decks as well as thwart Snapcaster Mage is the cherry on the very sweet cinnamon-flavoured cake.
Sideboard probably needs a little bit of altering, depending on how much Tron there is in the meta. If there's not much Tron, I will switch Molten Rain for cards more useful to the meta. If there's too much ETB ability shenanigans, then I'm forced into Torpor Orb.
Hopefully I'm able to find a use for Anathemancer. Card seems busted in the right situations, just not against the 14 different Affinity decks I play against on Cockatrice.

I don't know if I'll be there, but I'm asking anyway: are you interested in a match up with affinity too?
That sounds good too sir. I've played a lot of Affinity match-ups recently, but I think you'll be a lot more competent than the people I've been playing against.

And back to reality, thanks for the reminder that I need to buy a hunting rifle before my daughter starts heading off to parties...;)
One of the reasons I work the job I do on the weekends: practice.
When my little girl starts bringing boys home, I plan on either:
A. Cleaning my guns, or
B. Lifting weights prison yard style
every time a new one comes over. I also plan on doing this with my shirt off with a line of little skull tattoos across my back. When my daughter's date ask about them - and he will, either to me or my daughter later - one of us will inform him, in all seriousness, that every skull is some dumbass that I killed.
Don't worry, no offense taken. More than anything, reflecting on my own stupidity. Ihave some things to think about now actually.
If you ever need someone to bounce something off of, feel free to shoot me a PM. Chances are that whatever you're having trouble with - I've been there... and gotten through it with style!
Plus, if it's something truely ridiculous, it's not like you have to worry about me outing you to your friends, family, or boss...

I hate how it does nothing before turn 3. I can't see it being played over Zektar Shrine Expedition and I don't think you'll want any more top-end landfall cards than that.

Goddamn, being a parent is fun!
My uncle did this thing for his daughters:
Her date would show up at the door. Dad would politely greet him and ask, "She told me, but I forgot already. What was your name?"
"John."
Then the man would take out a sharpie and a shotgun shell, write "John" on the shell, and set it on a shelf. Next to a used shotgun shell with some other name on it.

The other one he liked to do (well, only while he was doing a bunch of work on the yard) was:
Dude walks up to the front door, Dad comes from side of the house with a shovel in his hand. "Hey, she's going to be a few minutes before she's ready, could you give me a hand with something out back here? Promise I won't get you dirty before you head out."
They get behind the house and there's a big hole in the yard. "How tall are you, again?"
