I saw LCD Soundsystem live three times, one of my all-time favourite bands. I think James Murphy is coming to Australia with the guy from DFA1979 but I can't afford that **** so I'm not gonna bother.
Battles are great, can't wait to see them next year.
Christmas sure went quickly! I got season 1 & 2 of 30 Rock, season 6 of Futurama, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Kingdom of Fear, a hilarious looking Time Life version of The Great Gatsby from 1999 with Paul Rudd, and some rad suspenders.
I've not seen much of the music scene. Ya'll know I like my outlaw country, and older country in general. New stuff from Rascal flatts and Taylor Swift just seems more pop than anything else. So I just listen to my Chris Ledoux, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson. Though I do enjoy a song or two by Toby Keith and I like the Zack Brown Band.
Typically though, if there's a song I like that the radio also likes, the radio will ruin it for me by playing it every half hour.
Sorry I haven't been around. Christmas with the family and all that. I'll check to see how much more time is left in judging the contest, but I might not get that till tomorrow.
Christmas was fun. Sister made us all open her present first simultaneously, which turned out to be matching red onezies with the trap door. Silly as all getup, so we all put them on and proceeded to take photos and open presents dressed like that. I'll have to get those photos later.
I got some good presents too. Socks and a book, which I ask for every year...a fifth of whiskey and a brand new carhartt jacket.
Also got Skyrim and Starcraft 2!!! Which is awesome...and I'll be having loads of fun with those...if I ever buy a computer that can run them. Maybe the family's "hint hint." Tempted to go out and buy a computer tomorrow or so....but then my funds are extremely tight right now.
Anyway, loads of fun.
Cheers,

Skyrim is pretty great - it's hard to play and not get sucked into 3-4 hours of playtime. Unless you're on the ps3 and the game slows to a crawl after only 1.
I beat Uncharted 3 today, not the best in the series but certainly one of the best 2011 games. It looks like 2012 is going to be pretty bleak for the video game industry; the only standout game seems to be Bioshock Infinite, and that comes out December 31st. If I'm forgetting any big titles let me know.
Iowa Caucus in about a day. The Republican primary gets more exciting by the minute. I bet if Ron Paul wins the headline will be MITT ROMNEY TAKES SECOND PLACE IN IOWA!
Oh dear god I am really sick. Yesterday I felt weird and just got worse and worse over the course of the day, by the evening I had a fever, my tonsils were swollen and covered in pus, and my kidneys really hurt. I barely slept last night, was having crazy hallucination dreams (involving 30 Rock, I've been watching it too much) and when I woke up this morning I was very, very ill. Went to the doctors and they said my tonsils have abcessed and look like the tissue has become a little necrotic so once the infection is over I will have to get them removed. I had to get a shot of penecillin (SO PAINFUL) and then a blood test, and I'm taking 4 500mg penecillin tablets a day as well as lots of painkillers to keep my throat from hurting too badly. I feel so so awful and I just hope I can get a decent night's sleep...
So...I have had quite the adventure over the past week and a half.
I started early by taking Friday before Christmas off. Get a jump on the Holiday seasn by getting through the weekend to work Wednesday and Thursday of the following week before the New Year. On the 26th my wife's step mother calls the house and tells her that her Grandfather died and the services will begin on Thursday. The wife and I gear up for a trip to southern West Virginia (7 hours away). We get her mother to come over and watch the kids after work on Thursday thru to Saturday when we would return.
Thursday Morning we drive down there and arrive around 2:00 pm at our hotel, which was graciously paid for by her step mom and dad. We get dressed and ready for the viewing, where we would spend 3+ hours greeting people we do not know. We would drive to Welch, WVA, located down, down down the mountain into the heart of poverty. It was about an hour's drive down twisty roads. The viewing was in a Pentecostal church. I was assured that this church was NOT going to be "bringing out the snakes" for the viewing or the service the following day.
We were clearly the only ones that have owned a tie and dress pants. The attire for the evening was jeans, camo-wear and big hair. Not including us or the group of people we followed to the viewing there was a full set of teeth. The wife of her Grandfather was 2 years younger than my wife's mom(59) and looked every bit of 65 years old. Let's just say, there were a lot of mullets, big frizzy hair, cigarettes and AMENS!
The Church was probably 20 feet wide and 40 feet long!! Yeah....I know!
That isn't even the crazy part! That came during the actual funeral service. It began nicely with a the husband of the preacher talking about Herby (grandfather's name) and how he came to them a few years back and found his way with them. Then he had every lower their heads for prayer. Now...when I lowered my head in church for prayer it was usually in silence while the minster said something or the whole congregation said the same thing at the same time. This was not the case. The preacher and her husband began very loud prayers, different than each others, and the congregation did the same thing. All of them different, some loud, some soft, some in another language, many in tongues. There was one guy that would raise his hands when he "felt the power of the lord" and would loudly say "LORD JESUS" in a long southern drawl. He did this throughout the service.
After the "opening prayer" session the preacher stood up and said some things. They were nice and positive. She then began to sing a song, and not very well I might add, the whole time chants of "LORD JESUS" were being heard. Once the first song was finished her sermon began. This was the typical powerful speach that you would hear in the south...with vocal breathing pauses and "YAH" at the end of each wordyah. Andyah, you began to feelyah, that the lordyah, was taking her soulyah. She said things that had nothing to do with anything and tied them together with her message very well. It was pretty scary. But the scary didn't come until the end. She stood there and proclaimed that this next song was one that Herby loved. He would yell at the Devil when she ang this song. And she began to sing and everyone in the place began to cry. The girl playing the piano, the entire congregation was in tears. And she put the microphone down and the whole place stood up and began to storm the casket. I thought they were going pull him out of there and carry him around the church. They were all touching him and kissing him...it was pretty creepy.
LOOORRRDD JESUS!!
Needless to say...I had an interesting experience I'll never forget.

Started making Belcher for legacy today. Missing a lot of stuff still due to the store being out of stock, but buying cardboard online makes me uneasy, so i have to go with their crazy prices (I've seen Chrome Moxes online for $10, they are asking $25 in store). Sigh.
You're going to pay through the nose buying cards in a brick & mortar in Australia. Typical markup is 100%, & more for something in demand. Luxury tax!
This store is actually a chain, but the prices are ridiculous. Is online buying safer than I'm thinking it is? Does anybody know of any reputable online stores? It'd be the best way to buy up big on Legacy staples I think.
I tend to eBay a lot of stuff from overseas. Paypal + Toolhaus to quick-check bad/neutral refs = happy customer every time. Even with shipping it's half the price most of the time.
Which is dumb, I'd love to support the local scene & sometimes buy local to do so, but it feels stupid when I lay down a dollar that's worth more than the US one but has half the buying power. ****ing economics.
So........does anyone in our clan care about the clan contest? They're in some sort of tiff about scoring right now. I voted us in favor of just leaving the scoring how it is, figuring none of us really cared. I've been told I have to poll the clan first.

Thank you for that informed post, clan rep. We need an HQ post still.
In case someone does care: the scoring rubric for the music contest that was approved by the Clan Council was changed, 10 days after judging began, without discussion. The change affected the outcome of the contest. The question is;
To be fair I recognized it looke dlike the rules had changed, and didn't question anything. Nobody bothered to question anything until results were revealed. As such I say we cannot remove the possibility that people with a large stake in this are only making this fuss for that reason. Next time people should pay more attention.
And you're welcome for the post sir.

Pay more attention, forget that. He changed the rules on Boxing Day, without consulting anyone. How am I supposed to question something stealthed in It's why you had to re-submit our entry, I had no idea it was there.
You can look at the context that Aurora brought up the change; she wasn't questioning the result, just wondering why the method changed. So I don't think that personal bias is a consideration; but even so it's part of why it's being put to all the clans, not just the two clans who have a vested interest in the result.
I saw Deerhoof last night, it was so good! And it was only $25, it made it even better.
In fact, this is the best week for gigs, ever. I'm seeing Fleet Foxes tonight, Beirut on Thursday, and Thee Oh Sees on Sunday. Really exciting! Especially tonight, I've been wanting to see Fleet Foxes for years!

Way to upgrade Charlie! Hope it suits ya.
Indeed I do! That album is the main reason I said "Most what I have heard does suck." I dance myself clean often.
I'm not on AIM b/c I had to nix Comcast at home for a while due to $. I may be on again someday, I should have Uverse soon. Maybe tonight.
