Nice Xanth! :)so whats are tottle score, we get +1 for every win -0 for every loss, who has most points win, is how i think it goes, if we sweep 2,0 it counts as 3...
Overall, it's been testing very well. I mean, aside from that one affinity player (complete *******, by the way), I've been getting generally good responses. Counterbalance + Sensei's Divining Top is an absolute house, and can easily keep people out of the game. Wipe Away is great removal for whatever might slip through your countermagic. It's even more epic against reanimator. Replay that!
Control Magic and Vedalken Shackles have both been working out very well. As it would turn out, stealing creatures is a good thing.
Jace Beleren is the biggest slot that I'm concerned about. He generates CA, but I'm not sure if the time that it takes for this to happen is exactly worth the wait.
Thats an interesting deck.
anyway i been working on this deck some more... and heres what i come up with...
to solve the problems u guys see with it...
I like your deck Looks rather powerful with a huge amount of card advantage. At first glance, the main issue I can see the deck facing is getting :symu::symu: early and reliably for Counterbalance, Counterspell, and Wipe Away, seeing that it runs seven colorless lands. If the opponent turn 1's a Chalice of the Void for 1, you may be in dire straits, as all your early searching tools (Brainstorm & Sensei's Divining Top) will not be able to help you find the right mana for these answers.
I know it's another 1cc permanent that gets hit by CotV, but have you considered Wayfarer's Bauble? I've always found it to be a great candidate for control, but never end up including it. I am growing more fond of it though and will probably try working it into a deck soon enough. Turn 1 Bauble, Turn 2 holding 2 lands open for a counter, and if they don't play anything, crack Bauble at EOT; have 3-4 mana turn 3. Sounds like an ideal scenario. Helps you get the basic islands for Vedalken Shackles as well.
I think Jace works rather well under a Counterbalance lock. Giving your opponent extra cards is no problem to you when it costs you or to counter each of their spells.
Control magic has been working beautifully. I have not checked out Treachery, although part of the reason that I've got Control Magic in there is for the mana cost. I'd like to be able to keep a solid mana curve for Counterbalance :P. For the most part, I've just been stealing goyfs and the like, but I can't wait until my first Dreadstill matchup
Honestly, I need to pay a bit closer attention to my games to see about that whole UU deal, but I do see effectively 16 blue sources. I guess for that reason, I'm a little hesitant to throw bauble in there. I'd like to keep my fetchlands potent even into the late game, esp. through Crucible.
As for sideboard, I'm considering Hurkyl's Recall. Takes out chalice, trinisphere, pithing needle... a good deal of cards, really. Propaganda is a really good idea, Pendrell Mists would work well in conjunction with it. Otherwise, I'm not sure of what else to put in there. Needle might not be a terrible idea, but I really don't know right now.
My friend actually made a casual monoblue wizard tribal deck. Back before Lorwyn of course, so I don't think it could stand up to much these days. You can go ahead and find his build here.
Anyway, how many of y'all are following the rumor mill? It's getting pretty intense, and while we haven't seen much, it seems like blue's getting the shaft. A few thoughts overall: We haven't seen much. I expect to see some better stuff coming to blue's rescue. At the same time, I feel blue will prolly get the shaft this time around. Close to balanced, but not. I do think it might actually be a good thing though. Maybe it'll get everyone to stop hating on us for being so awesome all the time.

We haven't seen anything yet, my friends.
This new Blue is going to be all about the Ice cards. And we know there's a sleep spell coming! From the Beyer article? Mass sleep spell. And it lasts for two turns or something.
If it ignores artifact creatures we have it made.
See, we've just seen a bunch of the normal stuff. Cancel got spoiled, Essence Scatter, etc. etc. But it's not a random sample; we saw that stuff because of what those cards are. The real hotness glibness is still hiding. Think, we only know 9 Blue cards. Of 249 set.

I've been thinking something similar, though clearly ritual cant come back. Perhaps a new tutor?
Vampire-ish TutorB
Sorcery
Search your library for a card, then shuffle your library and put that card on top of it. You lose 3 life.
Still a 1 for 3. Would it be too powerful? I dno meself. Really, I can't think of what else the 1 for 3 black card would be. Maybe -0/-3 until end of turn? while -3/-3 until end of turn would be cool and a good mirror to Giant Growth, it would totally kill Last gasp.

I think that tutor would be far too powerful; Vampiric Tutor does nearly the same thing and is banned in Legacy. The new card, assuming there is one, will likely be card-type specific if it is a tutor, similarly to the Enlightened Tutor gang. Perhaps it will only search out black cards?
Eloquent,
You may want to try Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker I'd pass on Pyroclasm as it's sorcery speed and can't go under the Scepter (which seems to be one of your stronger themes for the deck), and perhaps focus on more 2cc instants.
Greetings, Captain Salty, welcome to our lovely thread
My thoughts on the M10 blue stuff:
Getting the nifty reprints (Twincast, Clone, Jace Beleren, Telepathy, Time Warp, Traumatize, Fabricate) is great but does nothing for me; I can simply get these cards elsewhere or already have them (I have at least 4 of each sans Time Warp ._.)
Only a few of the new cards are any exciting. Djinn of Wishes is great, I love that. I really do not like that they chose to print him in the same set as Air Elemental when he's the same-exact-thing-except-better. The new merfolk lord is pretty cool, but I don't think it will make its way into any really competitive merfolk decks. Mind Control blows, hard. We don't need another Persuasion variant when we have so many other better options already... I like Sleep, and am surprised they never printed a card named "Sleep" before :xd: It's great for blue Sphinx Ambassador is cute, and fun, but very expensive and not competitive at all
I really hope we get some better spoiled cards... I really want to see a good :symu::symu::symu: counterspell for once! Something like:
Superior Intellect - :symu::symu::symu:
Instant - Rare
Counter target spell. If you have more cards in hand than that spell's controller, remove that spell from the game, then draw two cards and discard a card.
I would probably throw together a good-stuff highlander with as many combos, synergies & toolboxes as I could mash into it, I don't think that is what you aim for.
Le'me say that red does not offer much in this colour combination 'xcept land destruction - agreed on mostly as unfun in multiplayer - and combo pieces and some solid gold spells.
You have to agree that a lone Lightning Bolt is not quite the level of other options at hand.
hm... anyways, Vintage sans P10 is, for me atleast, to vague to give advice. How cutthroath is your meta?
Edit: on M10
I still don't like the rules. I don't like creatures getting pushed that much. I strongly dislike the functional reprints. I have no problem with white getting good cards - but I have one with them all yelling 'stuff us into one deck and rock the floor'. I think blue drew the short straw again*. And I hate Vampires with stats below 4. I like however some cards for their flavour, Djin being a good example, but that does somehow not make up for my general dislike of M10.
* yes, again. True was in the dominating decks of the past two years in T2, however one can't say blue got a lot of interesting cards in the past sets. CC being the grand exception, but blaming blue for getting half of a 'stuff us into one deck and rock the floor'-tribe is wrong twofold.

You summarised my mood quite well right here. I like our reprints. They're solid. Just not as solid as some of the other colors.
Mind Control was a major letdown. I was really hoping for a competitive steal card. They say "blue does other stuff than just countering", but how can we not resort to countering when this is the other stuff we get.
So far the Djinn's been the only blue card I've been really excited about (I like the sphinx too, but even I wont run it in casual).
@ Blutsau: I know what you mean. The only reason that blue's been played at all over the last 2 years is because of Cryptic Command, and to support Bitterblossom.
Its a shame that CC was so powerful. Perhaps we wouldnt be getting such a bad rep now.
If this coreset is as bad for blue as I suspect, at least we might be able to shed the "always unfairly the best" identity.

Ah well. I'm taking it in stride. Give them a year to figure out how to do this. They are reinventing the game. Let Blue suck for a year. We'll just chill with Mono-Black, right? That is the plan, right guys?
They can figure out what Blue means before the next gold block.
Here's what Blue needs to be playable this time around: Just some more creatures. And non-flying ones, so Jump has targets Levitation is useable.
No but seriously, the only way Blue is doing anything is if it draws some cards and plays more dudes, then manipulates time a bit and steals some advantage out of nowhere so the other guy's like "bwuh?" But if it doesn't even have the creatures, it can't do that. So sucks to be Blue.

EDH: It's like a pillow fight, except occasionally someone pulls out a chainsaw.
If you suggest a card to add to a deck, suggest one to take out as well.
Play it along some Pacts and you're pretty much set to win. Doomsday'd be another fun card to play along, same with Paradygm Shift with some grave removal.

It's some random combo Johnny's card.
It has absolutely no practical use. I don't even see how it co-operates with Blue. Why would it share the copying ability?
The only way to get this to be used is if you want the opponent to have control of spells you cast. The obstacle is that you have to be able to deal with the fact they can change targets.
If R&D prints a sorcery or instant that you want your opponent to control, Hive Mind will have a use. It still won't be type II playable though.
