Ideally, you never cast it from your hand and just mill it into your graveyard and cast it from there. But it is overcosted, yes.

Need a quick ruling. If you use this creature to discard prized amalgam,, does the amalgam revive at the end of the turn. I'm assuming that the cost is being paid before the revival but I'm not certain.

Okay, then. If anyone wants to make a UB zombie deck that isn't a dredge variant, this card may actually have a real use. Of course, given how good dredge already is...

You got it right. By the time the Skaab would come back the Amalgam is already in the graveyard.
