A lot of these cards are handicapped quite a bit by the aftermath portion being a sorcery.

Wizards has a somewhat strict policy of "No casting instants from the graveyard." There's a reason that most Flashback cards are Sorceries.

No one is denying that they would be stronger as instants, but I think quadrupling a creature's damage for 6 mana would never be printed as an instant. Making them sorceries lets Wizards amp up the power level.
