Fandom and Curse are excited to announce our exclusive spoiler for the upcoming Modern Horizons booster set.

As a special tie-in with our weekly Fandom Legends event, the winner of yesterday's Magic Arena tournament, Shahar Shenhar, won the special opportunity to reveal this card live on their Twitch channel!

The Modern Horizons set is a new 'Innovation Product' idea from Wizards of the Coast, where the cards printed will go directly into being legal in most sets like Modern, Commander, and Legacy; but not Standard. Favorite cards that are too old to belong in Modern, new high-power-level cards for Commander, and new reprints for Legacy are all on the menu.

Sword of Truth and Justice is part of the fan-favorite series, 'The Sword of X and Y' since the Darksteel set 15 years ago. Five swords have been printed so far, all at Mythic Rare quality and most of them have been relatively powerful, with Feast and Famine being one of the most commonly seen Equipment cards in Commander.

• Sword of Feast and Famine
• Sword of Fire and Ice
• Sword of Light and Shadow
• Sword of War and Peace

But let's talk about OUR card, which is a brand new, never-before-seen weapon.

'Swords of X and Y' all have a similar formula:

• A name that indicates its relationship to two colors of Magic's color pie
• 3 mana to cast
• 2 to equip
• Grants +2/+2 to the equipped creature and protection from the color pair
• An effect when the equipped creature hits a player

Our card is no different.

The Sword of Truth and Justice is a 3 CMC Equipment that costs 2 to equip. The equipped creature gets +2/+2 and has protection from White and from Blue. Whenever the equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, put a +1/+1 counter on a creature you control, then proliferate.

A worthy sword to add to the collection — but is it any good?

We're far from Magic experts here at Fandom and Curse, but we have sleeved up a couple of decks over the years and reached out to some trusted advisors for their take.

Most signs point to this card having only a marginal impact on the Modern and Legacy metagames with most other swords simply being too slow for these formats, although maybe a Humans, Hardened Scales, or Infect deck could find a use for it at some point in Modern.

Commander could be different, though — +1/+1 counters and Proliferate are some of the most popular themes in the format and the other swords have historically seen quite a bit of EDH play, although that has diminished somewhat lately.

This could be Atraxa's best friend.
