Welcome to the Magic Market Index. This article series documents the price changes of cards currently in print. This article will track how cards go from release to its time out of Standard, and as long as deemed necessary for non-Standard sets, as well as offer insight into what cards to invest in and what to ignore. The Magic market is a dangerous place, and this article is here to help guide players and speculators through the murky waters to greater returns.
This article will be updated once a week on Thursday. Currently, this article series is tracking Eternal Masters, Dragons of Tarkir, Magic Origins, Battle for Zendikar Block (Oath of the Gatewatch, Battle for Zendikar, Zendikar Expeditions) and Shadows over Innistrad Block (Shadows over Innistrad and Eldritich Moon). There are no current plans to track any promo sets, pack foils, or non-set releases. Otherwise, if it can be opened in a pack, it will be covered.
Card prices are picked on Thursday morning from TCG Player mid price, the price used by many for trading cards for cards. Going by the selling price involves whether to go by Ebay, TCG Player low, Star City Games, or another vendor. It is just simpler and cleaner to go by the trade value of TCG Player mid. Comments about cards are the opinions of the author, and should not be taken as facts or divine intervention. That said, comments and predictions are based on data and experience, not on idle speculation or an attempt to move certain cards. Cards that are worth $2.00 USD or more will be on the list. If a card is worth $1.99 or less, it will not appear on the list even if it was on the previous week.

Overall Summary
The state of the Magic market is healthy and moving positively.
There was a Star City Games Open in Columbus last weekend that marks the start of the new Standard format. Eldritch Moon has already made a big splash and pushed the Collected Company deck into near tier zero status. It could easily join the ranks of Abzan during the Khans era, mono black devotion during Theros, or even approach Caw Blade during Scars of Mirrodin or Jund during Alara era. However, this is only the beginning and there are still decks that can fight it and be able to win. The next two weeks with the next Open and Pro Tour Eldritch Moon in Sydney will find if there is an answer to the current best deck in Standard. There are some ideas about how to bet it, and that is what to.
There are other decks such as the B/W Angel control and the Sultai Control deck. Both of these deck used new cards from the Eldritch Moon to attack in new angle. The B/W Angel control is a B/W control deck with more creatures, like the two angels Gisela, the Broken Blade and Bruna, the Fading Vision. The Sultai deck enables delirium for Emrakul, the Promised End and Ishkanah, Grafwidow. Both decks are strong contenders and will have to adapt to defeating Bant Company decks.
For the sets, they are moving about is to be expected. Eldritch Moon is moving down aside from the cards that over performed at the Star City Games Open in Columbus last weekend. Cards from this set will go down unless they make a breakout. This is not some sign of doom but rather the card market responding to the nature state of economics. More product is being opened and Limited events are now taking place, increasing the supply and matching or exceeding demand, which lowers the price of cards.
This set has made a great impact for being a second set. Shadows over Innistrad made a large impact as it rotated out Khans of Tarkir and Fate Reforged, meaning there was a blank slate for Standard. Eldritch Moon was just adding cards to a pool, and to create new decks out of that that are competitive is quite impressive. The Shadows over Innistrad bock is on the list for best block ever. Oath of the Gatewatch is seeing several rares move up in value, which is exciting. Magic Origins and Dragons of Tarkir are on the way out and you can tell by that despite several cards getting regular play, they are still going down. Battle for Zendikar is still a disappointment.
When buying packs or boxes, It should be Eldritch Moon, Oath of the Gatewatch, Shadows over Innistrad, then no other. Battle for Zendikar is still a bad idea unless you are 99% you are getting an Expedition of at least worth a hundred dollars. The best use of your money is to buy singles, but cracking packs and boxes are a lot more fun and it's fun to gamble a little.

Posted Aug 2, 2016I'm working on it, as I think the pieces are there for Zombies to beat Bant Company by going wider than Bant can cover. The various sacrifice a creature cards, Dark Salvation and Languish along with Clip Wings may yet be combined into a force that tumbles Bant Company.

Posted Jul 31, 2016Liliana, the Last Hope went up to 45. This is not sustainable but for the short term, it can go up and will slowly go down, just like some previous cards. This is the pattern for when a mythic in the new set sees play and is decent. We saw this spike in Pyromancer's Goggles after the GR Ramp deck came out, how Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, Archangel Avacyn, and Nahiri, the Harbinger.
I recommend dumping your Lily now if you do need them, and if you do, keep them. If you need them, then I am sorry, but I hope you can open one in a pack or trade for one at a cheap price.

Posted Jul 30, 2016If I ignore the straight line on that graph which seems to equate that it is a steady increase which is not the truth, the story of Relentless Dead, the MCM actually agrees with my data. It spike hard, and is not steadily dropping. The line is appears to be just an average of the price change.
As for the Cryptbreaker, I have not looked at the European markets so I am afraid any response would be a guess and based off US data.
