Welcome to the Magic Market Index. This article series documents the price changes of cards currently in print. This article will track how cards go from release to its time out of Standard, and as long as deemed necessary for non-Standard sets, as well as offer insight into what cards to invest in and what to ignore. The Magic market is a dangerous place, and this article is here to help guide players and speculators through the murky waters to greater returns.
This article will be updated once a week on Thursday. Currently, this article series is tracking Eternal Masters, Dragons of Tarkir, Magic Origins, Battle for Zendikar Block (Oath of the Gatewatch, Battle for Zendikar, Zendikar Expeditions) and Shadows over Innistrad Block (Shadows over Innistrad and Eldritich Moon). There are no current plans to track any promo sets, pack foils, or non-set releases. Otherwise, if it can be opened in a pack, it will be covered.
Card prices are picked on Thursday morning from TCG Player mid price, the price used by many for trading cards for cards. Going by the selling price involves whether to go by Ebay, TCG Player low, Star City Games, or another vendor. It is just simpler and cleaner to go by the trade value of TCG Player mid. Comments about cards are the opinions of the author, and should not be taken as facts or divine intervention. That said, comments and predictions are based on data and experience, not on idle speculation or an attempt to move certain cards. Cards that are worth $2.00 USD or more will be on the list. If a card is worth $1.99 or less, it will not appear on the list even if it was on the previous week.

Overall Summary
The state of the Magic market is healthy.
This is the calm before the storm when players are brewing new decks and improving existing ones. Everyone is waiting for what happens at SCG Columbus this weekend and then move from there to see what the new meta is. It will be a combination of spirit and human tribal, Collected Company, tokens, and Harmless Offerings decks. The latter will not do well, nor will the U/B Zombie deck. The others will have different degrees of success, and the Human deck will have at least four flavors in mono White, G/W, Bant, and R/W.
Do not buy into the deck that wins as that deck rarely is the defining deck. It has happened, but is rare. Look for the deck that had the most number of Day Two appearances. There will be an update Saturday night in the comments section. Go into this weekend looking for solid Green, Blue, and White cards.
For buying a box, this is a solid set to buy a box from. There is the normal caveat that boxes are almost always worse than buying the singles that you want, but Eldritch Moon has a lot for solid cards to make buying a box not a horrible idea. The Buy A Box promo is Thalia, Heretical Cathar and is definitely worth getting. A lot of the commons and uncommons are solid and playable with many of the rares being playable abet not worth a lot, so the box is not top-heavy.

Posted Jul 24, 2016It is too early to say that Standard is set in stone and things are this way for now, but it will not be until after the Pro Tour that the meta has had a chance to determine what the decks to play are. Right now, avoid the hype cards, aside from Spell Queller which is probably legitimately the best card in Eldritch Moon.
Predicition for next week is that Bant Company will be the number one deck, but may not be the winning deck. A lot of decks are going to try to build around it now that is seen how it plays. However, it is a strong deck that does not have too many great answers to what the deck does that are not U. A strong U/ B Control deck might be able to do well against it.
