Welcome to the Magic Market Index. This article series documents the price changes of cards currently in print. This article will track how cards go from release to its time out of Standard, and as long as deemed necessary for non-Standard sets, as well as offer insight into what cards to invest in and what to ignore. The Magic market is a dangerous place, and this article is here to help guide players and speculators through the murky waters to greater returns.
This article will be updated once a week on Thursdays. Currently, this article series is tracking Dragons of Tarkir, Magic Origins, Battle for Zendikar Block (Oath of the Gatewatch, Battle for Zendikar, Zendikar Expeditions) and Shadows Over Innistrad. There are no current plans to track any promo sets or other non-set releases. If it can be opened in a pack, it will be covered.
Card prices are picked on Thursday morning from TCGplayer mid price, the price used by many for trading cards for cards. Going by the selling price involves whether to go by Ebay, TCGplayer low, Star City Games, or another vendor. It is just simpler and cleaner to go by the trade value of TCGplayer mid. Comments about cards are the opinions of the author, and should not be taken as facts or divine intervention. That said, comments and predictions are based on data and experience, not on idle speculation or an attempt to move certain cards. Cards that are worth $2.00 USD or more will be on the list. If a card is worth $1.99 or less, it will not appear on the list even if it was on the previous week.

Overall Summary
The state of the Magic market is shrinking in value.
There is a cool down in the prices for Standard. This might be the lack of big Standard events and no innovative decks coming through, coupled with the market now compensating for the amount of Shadows over Innistrad opened. Nahiri has spiked interest in Modern and a lot of effort is devoted to that format.
Right now, Shadows over Innistrad is going into the dark place of value and will go down until the next Standard set comes out, as well demand for Eternal Masters. If you want are wanting to get a box or buy some loose packs, Magic Origins or Dragons over Tarkir are the best best they have long and short term investments like Jace, Dark Petition, Collected Company, Kolaghan's Command. Oath of the Gatewatch should be avoided but is not that bad if the other two are not available. Battle for Zendikar is basically like a bad lottery game were even if you win the lottery and get an Expedition, you may still lose if you get a lesser one.

The Great Aurora: It did move slightly.
Goblin Dark-Dwellers: The card failed to take off and actually went down. They will rise, but not right now.
This week:
Llanowar Wastes: All the painlands are worth getting, but this is the main one to get.
Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit : This is seeing play in Modern, so it due for an uptick in price.
Tireless Tracker:This is falling, so get copies of it now.

Nahiri, the Harbinger: Well, it did very well so it naturally is double the predicted value.
Archangel Avacyn: She continues to drop and she will continue to do so.

Jace, Vryn's Prodigy : This could drop down to $50 to $60, so wait until it bottoms out.

Posted May 20, 2016Oath is currently still an in-print set, meaning people are still opening it and cracking expeditions. Once it stops being in print, the value on these is likely to take a permanent upwards trajectory.
Canopy is a strong card that sees play in both Modern and Legacy, and as its only other printing is Future Sight and fairly expensive already, the long-term value on this is likely to continue going up unless we see a Modern Masters/Eternal Masters reprint in the next several years.
My recommendation would be to hold it for a year or two unless there's something Eternal you need and can trade it for, especially if you can pick up something on the Reserved List.
