Welcome to the Magic Market Index. This article series documents the price changes of cards currently in print. This article will track how cards go from release to its time out of Standard, and as long as deemed necessary for non-Standard sets, as well as offer insight into what cards to invest in and what to ignore. The Magic market is a dangerous place, and this article is here to help guide players and speculators through the murky waters to greater returns.
This article will be updated once a week on Thursdays. Currently, this article series is tracking Dragons of Tarkir, Magic Origins, Battle for Zendikar Block (Oath of the Gatewatch, Battle for Zendikar, Zendikar Expeditions) and Shadows Over Innistrad. There are no current plans to track any promo sets or other non-set releases. If it can be opened in a pack, it will be covered.
Card prices are picked on Thursday morning from TCGplayer mid price, the price used by many for trading cards for cards. Going by the selling price involves whether to go by Ebay, TCGplayer low, Star City Games, or another vendor. It is just simpler and cleaner to go by the trade value of TCGplayer mid. Comments about cards are the opinions of the author, and should not be taken as facts or divine intervention. That said, comments and predictions are based on data and experience, not on idle speculation or an attempt to move certain cards. Cards that are worth $2.00 USD or more will be on the list. If a card is worth $1.99 or less, it will not appear on the list even if it was on the previous week.

Overall Summary
The state of the Magic market is okay despite being mostly dropping.
Standard is trying to settle, but there are still a lot of good deck out there, and a new winner with each event. The Naya Midrange and Grixis Control are the two new decks that are adding to the diverse meta. There has not been a dominant deck yet, although G/W Tokens continues to be one of the best performing along with Bant Company and W/B Control. Standard is diverse, so there is few individual cards that can claim to be the best card. Modern is looking for new cards and seems to have found one in Nahiri, which more than doubled in price.
This not a good time to buy a box or loose packs. Origins has the best bet for value, with Dragons, then Shadows, then Oath. Avoid Battle unless you want to throw away money or you are extremely lucky at opening Expeditions.
Cards to Watch
Previously, these were predicted to spike:
Eldrazi Displacer: It did go up, but only by seven cents. This will most likely go up later.
Lambholt Pacifist: Despite seeing play, it did not go up in any significant manner.
[card]Ruinous Path[/card]:This card did not go up in price.
This week:
The Great Aurora: This started going up, and it might see some more play due to Sam Black's playing of it.
Goblin Dark-Dwellers: It is seeing play in several deck and has a great effect. It sees play in Modern, so it definitely good.
Cards to Avoid
Previously, these were predicted to fall:
Archangel Avacyn: She keeps going down.
Liliana, Heretical Healer: Liliana is dropping. The G/B Rites deck is giving way to the Four Color Rites.
Part the Waterveil: The card went up. Maybe this is not a fluke.
This week:
Nahiri, the Harbinger: Never buy into the hype unless you can get it cheap. This will be around $18 to$ 20 if it does not perform well at the Modern GP.
Archangel Avacyn: She continues to drop and she will continue to do so.
